An Angel came to us and then went away and took our hearts with her …

As some of you were aware, Jennifer was pregnant with our first child. Due to a sudden complication with her pregnancy brought on by a hidden weakness called an “incompetent cervix“, Jennifer had to deliver our baby at 21 weeks of gestation at an unexpected rest stop in Indianapolis.

Our baby passed away very quickly after the delivery in spite of all the medical attention that was available to her. She lived for 15 minutes and spent her last few breaths in Jennifers’ arms. She was absolutely beautiful and made me smile and cry at the same time. We baptized her Angel. She is the Angel of our eyes and our hearts.

I know she is happy in heaven. We will miss you our dear child. May the Lord bless you and may your soul rest in peace.

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

  1. As someone who has lost a child, I want to offer my prayers and my condolences. I know better than to say I understand your pain, because each pain is different. Remember, no matter how short of a time your daughter was with you physically, she will always be your daughter and you will always be her father. Also remember to deal with your own pain while you help your wife deal with hers. When, and if, you are ready, feel free to contact me, and I will share with you some resources that my wife and I found helpful. My heart goes out to you and your wife and daughter.

  2. I am so terribly sorry, Mark. My heart sank, and my eyes teared up. I hope you and Jennifer don’t let this get you down too bad.

  7. Mark, I don’t directly know you either (looking for low-ball car sales info), but hear this… My wife and I lost five babies almost similar to yours, some sooner than others. After the last I was concerned for my wife’s mental health. Long story short – number six I asked her to stay on bed rest for 5 months. It worked. One of my favorite quotes is “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” – Jimmy Valvano, former NC State Basketball coach on his fight with Cancer.

Those of us who’ve us who have experienced your similar pain, are there with you all the time. Keep moving forward and life will reward you with many presents.
