FedEx SmartPost: What a terrible service!!

I normally do not ship much and try to either use UPS or USPS to send my packages. I have also used FedEx in the past with relative success. However, now the big names have come up with a way to be completely irresponsible for their service and in the process make it “cheaper” for its users. Announcing Fedex Smartpost. I really wonder how executives at these shipping companies can come up with this horseshit and put it into production without performing a reality check. I see Fedex Smartpost as a way for Fedex and USPS to completely deny any accountability for a package shipped through this service, thus reducing overhead normally associated with extra checks and balances to control loss and/or mistakes. This makes everyone concerned look really, really bad. They need to hire better marketing and managerial folks.
I was shipped a small package through this service and somehow it got lost in the shuffle. However, now Fedex has no way of tracking it, nor does USPS. They both asked me to visit the others’ website/phone support to get it resolved. I shudder to think what would have happened if this package was expensive or had an insurance claim of some kind. Needless to say, I will never ship anything again (or have anything shipped to me) with any “Smartpost” type service. I really like accountability and would like to think that my carriers are responsible enough and reliable enough to want be accountable since they sell reliability and their business models are based on reliability of service. If anyone reading this was thinking about using Fedex Smartpost, I would strongly suggest against it. Save yourself the hassle and the line of flaming dog poop that these people are offering and pay a few bucks extra to use a better service.

DONT USE FED EX SMART POST

I AM SO MAD. ITS CHRISTMAS TIME YOU KNOW. ORDERING GIFTS FOR ALL THOSE LOVED ONES. WELL DON\’T USE FED EX SMART POST IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE THESE GIFTS. I ORDERED 2 PACKAGES FROM A COMPANY AT THE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER, TO MAKE SURE THEY WOULD GET HERE IN TIME. ONE THEY SHIPPED VIA USPS AND IT CAME IN 2 DAYS, FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE OTHER ONE THEY SHIPPED USING FED EX SMART POST AND IT TOOK 10 LONG DAYS TO GET. BUT OK IT WAS STILL THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER SO FINE. NOW ON DEC 9TH I ORDERED FROM A COMPANY THAT IS ABOUT 30 MINUTES AWAY FROM ME. I THOUGHT FOR SURE I WOULD GET THIS ITEM IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS DROP IT IN A MAIL BOX AND IT WOULD ARRIVE THE NEXT DAY. BUT NO NO NO, THEY USED FED EX SMART POST. IT SPENT 2 DAYS IN THIS STATE, 2 DAYS IN ANOTHER STATE, 3 MORE DAYS IN ANOTHER STATE, AND IT ISN\’T EVEN BACK IN MY STATE YET. THE ARRIVAL DATE HAS CHANGED 3 TIMES, AND IS GETTING VERY CLOSE TO NOT ARRIVING BEFORE CHRISTMAS. FED EX SMART POST IS A LYING STUPID WASTE OF TIME AND PEOPLES MONEY. I JUST HAD TO VENT

I am still waiting for my wife’s Christmas present to arrive. It was shipped on 12/7/2010 via smartpost.

      • pam says:

Unbelievable! I ordered a part from Hoover and it was shipped this way…was to arrive on or before 12-14-10 and has not arrived as yet….it is bouncing between West Virginia and Allentown PA. I have called FEDEX 3 times and “Smartpost” folks were supposed to call me back…that was 9 days ago, 7 days ago and 5 days ago. And you can’t call Smartpost..Fedex can’t even call them..they message them…this totally sucks. I will never use Fedex by choice…EVER! And every time I track the package…a later date for delivery is tacked on!

        • AnotherOne says:

I am experiencing the same thing with smartpost! Every time I track my order, the estimated time of delivery adds a day. It has been 10 business days, i believe. I recently just tracked the shipment and ANOTHER day has been tacked on. ALSO, there was a point in time, where the package was sitting at a “FedEx Location” for more than 4 days. This is a load of bull*****.

I ordered from Coldwater Creek on the 22nd of Dec. and they shipped SmartPost and charged me $16.95 for shipping. I still don\’t have it 10 days later. What a ripoff. Sending it by Fedex alone would have been cheaper and more effecient.

  4. snailmail says:

Agree, Agree, Agree. I\’ve been waiting 15 business days for one package & 12 for another. Both packages are coming from retailers of nearby states. What a joke. And accountability- NONE. Your left out in the cold. The retailers shipped & the post office has not received. Just wait they all say. So as if I have a choice, wait-wait-wait it\’s been. Half a month & still empty handed, empty wallet, EMPTY PROMISE. SMARTPOST \”PONYEXPRESS POST\”. Fedex should be embarrased to be associated with such a flop.

  5. West End Stench says:

Having these same problems at the current moment. I ordered a nintendo wii bundle from circuitcity.com. The bundle includes 2 games, extra controller and of course the system. Well, the 2 games and extra controller were shipped USPS and got to my house in 2 shipping days. The system however, was shipped via smartpost. It was shipped out the 5th, got to the Grove City, Ohio \”sortation center\” on the 6th, and fedex tracking says that it has been there ever since! With a $250 package I\’m getting a little worried…

  6. Iam Pissed says:

Ordered an online item from GNC. They shipped it Smartpost. It\’s been going on two weeks since I\’ve placed my order and no one knows where it is. All GNC knows is that it has \”left the warehouse\”. Why am I so pissed? The distribution warehouse that my item shipped from is only 9 miles down the road from me. I could have walked down there to pick the frigging item up!

  7. Wookie says:

West End – The exact same thing happened for me… I found your comment when I was searching for the Phone number for the black hole known as the Grove City Sortation Center… I have the same Wii lost in the process… but man the games and controller are awesome to play w/o the actual system.

I called Circuit City but of course they are no help, they say they will reship it but dont have any in stock… what a joke…

  8. Another Sucker says:

Yup. me too. Had a flat panel LCD HDTV shipped from circuit city and it was gone!!!! Smart Post is stealing packages!!!! Don\’t do it

  9. Another unsatisfied customer says:

Agree agree agree!!! who thought up this backward leap in customer service? It takes soooo long and no one is accountable.

  10. Sucker #3459 says:

My Wii was stolen by FedEx SmartPost in Grove City! Here is a copy of the e-mail I received from Circuit City:

\’Thank you for placing your order with http://www.circuitcity.com. We appreciate your business. Unfortunately, the carrier lost the package with the Nintendo Wii console and our distribution center is unable to fulfill your
    order.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Our stock is continuously replenished, so please check back with us soon.

Thanks again for visiting our web site. We look forward to supplying what you need in the future.\’

I will never use SmartPost or CC again.

i have been waiting for 2 weeks on a 300.00 package smartpost said i would get my package on 11-17-2010 well i didnt get it so i called fedex that was a waste of time they didnt knopw where my package was so i raised hell they told me to call back on the 11-18-2010 i did they still didnt have no update on the package so i went on fedex and tracked my package fed ex said they delivered my package to the local post office so i called the post office the manager said there has not been no fedex since 11-16-2010 i called fedex they hurried up and put on the tracker that they delivered the pkg to the postal service on 11-17-2010 i told them they lied they told me on the 11-18-2010 they dont know were the pkg is that there was no info and all the sudden they put a date in the computer . they have stolen the package so im going to the news media next week so people will know dont trust this lying place

  11. still waiting says:

I agree. My package has been sitting for 3 days at a time in three different Fedex SmartPost SORTATION CENTERS (code word for the bermuda triangle of shipping). What a joke. I think Circuit City needs to rethink their shipping partnership in a hurry.

  12. Roger says:

Ok, I have read enough bashing about FedEx SmartPost. For those of you that don\’t have a clue about logistics; as I can tell by your comments you don\’t, a sortation center is basically the same as the post office calls a Bulk Mail Center. They receive the parcels; or mail for those of lesser minds, and sort it to the closest zip code allowing direct delivery of items from a shipper. Which FedEx SmartPost has got down to most of your local post offices.
As for delivery times for SmartPost verses FedEx Ground… Both take the exact time to deliver to your home. 2-7 days, and since FedEx SmartPost is using the Postal Service for final delivery, I would say that is damn good.
Now for the pricing issue I have read about. Let me just say that most of the places you would order from not only charge you the amount for shipping, but they also charge you to package the item and handle it until it is picked up…
To end this rambling, let me just say before you go blasting a company, know your facts.

    • Salena says:

Well, I just tracked my package at Fedex Smartpost- it has a departure scan time of 9:24 am- I live just down the road and it was only 8:35 am when I checked. So… you can say they ship just the same as USPS, but I have never tracked a USPS package that ‘departed’ in the future so to speak. There is no way a package can depart before the time it actually is. In the healthcare industry we call it future populating data fields and is highly illegal!

    • ryan says:

my package is still gone they said they delivered my package to the postoffice and they have not. im still waiting on a 300.00 pkg they kept changing delivery dates well im a week past delivery they dont know where my package is…..

    • disgusted says:

Hey Roger, I am a software engineer for a Fortune 150 company specializing in supply chain management. I know logistics. But logistics is something that you don’t have to understand to see what a piece of crap service FedEx SmartPost is. All you ever have to have done is tracked a standard FedEx, UPS, or post office package. Then compare it to the crap your package undergoes when it is a SmartPost shipment. And another thing, a service that promises 5-7 business days and then NEVER delivers your package or keeps delaying your package after DOUBLE that time is a crappy service. What the hell does a person have to know about logistics to know THAT?

Your condescending rant really depends on everyone who’s posting being too stupid to watch what is happening to the money they spent. FedEx has arranged this service to discourage consumers from using lower cost or retailer-provided shipping options in order to sell it’s higher cost services that use the same vehicles and distribution points. I know that when I watch a package sit at a FedEx center less than 30 minutes from my home for three business days before the USPS is even notified of its existence, that FedEx is sitting on the package to make sure it doesn’t get to me in less than the quoted 5-7 business days. Why does it sit? Data entry? No, the package information is already in the FedEx system and when scanned in upon arrival simply underwent a status update. Sorting. Um no. When it was scanned on arrival the routing on the package was pretty much set. The package sat on site for 72 hours and then a scheduled software task transmitted the package data to the post office at precisely midnight on the third day.

This strategy is a transparent process used to solve for the logic barrier that has kept FedEx and other similar services from selling more expensive (such as overnight or 2-day) shipping. That problem is common sense. People realized long ago when they purchase an item stocked at a location close to them, it didn’t make sense to pay for overnight shipping. They could order standard mail or even in some cases parcel post and get the package in the same amount of time as they would get it if they paid for 2-day. This monkey-chain called SmartPost reduces costs for FedEx. Period. It is piece of crap service designed to cut corners on consumers and delay what would otherwise be early deliveries in order to sell their higher priced options.

    • Shanna says:

I agree with Roger. If you haven’t worked in a sortation center or with a shipping company get a grip. My husband runs a “sortation hub” and works his *** off trying to get packages to you. So, I guess you all do your jobs without any mistakes ever, right? Thought you were all perfect. Fedex Smartpost wouldn’t be in business if they screwed up as much as you say they do. Also, it helps if you don’t bash a company and instead think these people are trying as hard as you do at your jobs. S*** happens. Get over it. Smartpost is the cheapest shipping for businesses. They are the ones that charges the outrageous amounts not Smartpost.

      • Alexis says:

The cheapest shipping? I guess you haven’t investigated the Postal Service’s new shipping choices. Those flat rate boxes are so easy, cheap, and they get there much faster than UPS or FedEx, the supplies and pickup are free.

        • Alexis says:

and the other thing is that FedEx and UPS actually pay the Post Office to bring the packages to your door–where do you think they get the money to pay the Post Office? FROM YOU!

          • Rob says:

USPS, UPS and Fed Ex all use each other to get jobs done. Did you know that USPS uses UPS and Fed Ex on a daily basis to get almost every package to you that is shipped through USPS? Aside from that, did you now that the flat rate boxes that USPS offers are, more often than not, more expensive than if you were to ship it priority mail in a standard box? That flat rate goes well over the normal price for the average weight that normally fits into those boxes.

      • Dude says:

After having worked at a FedEx sortation facility in Orlando, I can tell you that what I’ve seen, just getting your packages, undamaged or otherwise should be enough to make an atheist believe in miracles. Yes, the employees do work their asses off, but strong backs and weak minds may get the job done, but they don’t always get the job done right. It’s really sad when you go through 2 days of training just to throw all of that out in the first 15 minutes of actually working. Apparently, “fragile glass” means to lay the item flat them stand on it (I wished I was kidding) to throw more items in random locations while loading the trailer, and all you hear is the horrifying crunching sounds which will lead to angry customers. And this was their supposedly best employee there doing this. There’s also too much reliance on the automated sorting system and not enough on human verification or even common sense. Sure, the package might get to the location, but when it’s ripped open and the contents have scattered throughout the facility because the belt was jammed for a half hour and no one was watching it, the proper procedure is apparently throw it on the truck anyway and make it someone else’s problem. As long as you can still scan it, it ships. On the bright side, it is better lit than UPS, but it doesn’t mean they have brighter staff.

      • Clyde says:

Glad your Husband does not work in the medical field. Quit making excusses for them! Lets face it, they SUCK BIG TIME !!!!!

      • ex fedex customer says:

I agree with disgusted. Shit does happen and it is called fedex smartpost. It does not matter how hard smartpost employees work (if we could even figure out who they actually work for). Smartpost is fundamentally flawed and fedex won’t fess up to it. My package shipped Aug 15 and the confirmation said I would receive it in 2 to 4 business days. It is now Aug 22 and I still have not received it. Smartpost says it is now at my local post office and it will take another 1 to 2 buiness days for me to receive it. Maybe they have to first send it back to Grove City wherever for a few more days to have a fedex executive look at it. This wonderful service cost me 6.99. I ordered from another online retailer also on the east coast on Aug 18. Shipping was via priority mail (thats US postal service!) at cost of 4.95 and it arrived Aug 20. No fake promises – they just got the job done on time. From now on I am only having items like cheese and wine shipped fedex…that stuff only gets better with age and I know that I am going to be a lot older when it is finally delivered!

        • Sylvia says:

Got to agree with you. My husband and I have ordered items and without our choice of shipping, this Smartpost shipping was used, and EACH AND EVERY TIME THE ITEMS WERE LOST. In one case we tracked the package arriving to our nearest major city, then tracked it being shipped further away every time we checked. In another case tracking indicated the pkg. had arrived at our local post office, which claimed they didn’t have it, and asked us to check back in a few days. By then they admitted the item was lost, but when I went to reorder, it was no longer available. I am now experiencing my FIFTH time with this shipping method for an item that was supposed to be delivered Saturday, and it is now Tuesday, has only gone from KY to Memphis, and has been sitting in Memphis since 7am Friday.

      • Britney says:

It is a bullshit service. There is no accountability from FedEx to the Post Office and the packages are never delivered in the time frame they “promise”. Furthermore most companies that offer this nonsense service do not tell you that they are going to use this crap service! They make it appear as if you are going to get the same shipping service as if you had paid for it. It’s bullshit and needs to be eliminated!

      • Pretteegyrl says:

you are an idiot…if all these people are complaining then it is more than a mistake it is a major problem….there are other websites with people complaining about this service as well so stfu dummy

    • Celia says:

Unless you yourself have experienced it don’t accuse others of not knowing the facts, some of us actually have had to deal with it. In the end no one wants to be held responsible, and all the customers want is their package. That’s it, not so much to ask is it? but waiting a month or having the tracking say it’s been delivered, when it never was? that’s not right. There has to come a point where someone must be held responsible, and it shouldn’t be the customers, you know the people giving the company money? ya

    • Jason says:

Roger, Since you know so much about logistics, please explain to me why my package made it from Madison Alabama to Grove City Ohio in a mere 6 days. Then was shipped to New York ???? Since I live 2 hours from Grove City in Ohio this doesn’t seem very logical. If you think the 11 days I’ve been waiting for a package that was 2 hours from my house 5 days ago, and is now 2 states over is resonable, then you are an idiot.

  13. Toneman says:

I am currently experiencing the same Black Hole of Sortation Centers. My Wii has been apparently sitting in the Earth City, MO Sortation Center for 5 days now. Comparing this to standard FedEx service is a joke, as the logistics of their entire distribution system appears flawed. I have never seen this type of problem with UPS or the post office. I mean, cmon, they are making me DEFEND THE POST OFFICE! Something tells me that I can probably make a large bid on my Wii on Ebay thanks to Joe Schmo Sorter from the Sortation center swiping packages. That would explain how nobody can get any, yet there are 1000\’s on Ebay.

I\’ve had other issues with FedEx too. Like needing a signature for pickup on an item. They habitually leave a note saying \”we missed you at 1PM, we will try again tomorrow after 4PM\”. Yet, leave work early the next day, and the SAME note is there because they missed me at 1PM again.

    • joe says:

I have had the same issue. My package of 0.9 lbs (2 items of clothing) most likely shipped in a bag not a box was shipped to me on 2 Apr.
After 2 days it left a FEDEX SMArtPost in Martinsburg, WV and arrived in the parcel black hole aka FedEx SmartPost Earth City, MO.
This is somewhere near St. Louis, MO. 9 Days later! the tacking tells me that “shipping information sent to US Postal Service”.
The shipper tells me that this means it was given to a local carrier for delivery! Only problem is that its addressed to Omaha, NE. Thats along ways away for a local carrier to deliver.
Thankfully UnderArmor customer service is sending me a replacement by 2-day mail. From order to deliver this could be a 20 day ordeal, and thats just because UA is sending a replacement. I will re-post when, if ever, I get the original package but I would not hold my breath.
Someone working at the FedEx SmartPost in Earth City, MO found his size in Under Armor, thieves!

  14. Ronald unhappy Fedex customer says:

I will never use Fedex Home Delivery again. I supposed to receive a package from Bekcer CPA review. I just do not understand why Becker uses this horrible service of Fedex. I called Fedex three times to ensure that they hold my package so that I can pick them up by myself. As you know the Becker Review course is very expensive, therefore, I do not want them to just leave in front of my door. The center on 700 Wise Rd in Schaumburg IL, never paid attention to the message sent by the Fedex Headquarter. I really doubt that this is the first time. In addition, the service hour is very short. You cannot pick your package like 5pm, they are close!!!!! I am hoping that Fedex loosing customers from doing this Home Delivery service so that they do not offer this cheaper and annoying service. I do not mind paying more monies as long as good service. I wish I had a way to spread the word to everybody.

  15. virginia says:

I agree. DON\’T USE FEDEX SMARTPOST. There is nothing smart about their service unless you are the thief. I have lost two packages ( a wii console and a tmx elmo ) to the thieves at Fedex SmartPost and they keep saying it is the post office not them.

  16. Dave says:

Fed-Ex SmartPost Sucks!!!! I am going through the same problem with ordering a Wii from Circuit City as well. I have read countless complaints about this new disaster of a service from FedEx all over the Internet. This forum here is only one among many with people complaining about this (dis)service. I ordered the Wii and a one game from CC at the same time. The game got to me one business day later being shipped directly with USPS. The Wii console, shipped with FedEx StupidPost has circumnavigated the United States all around my state of Alabama going from Oregon, to Atlanta, Georgia, to Orlando, Florida. It has been 8-days so far, but I fear even worse after reading the multitude of complaints about this service all over the Internet. The latest tracking information states that the USPS has received Electronic Shipping Information about my package, but has not received my actual package.

And as far as Roger\’s haughty comments above (Post #12), basically F*ck you and your arrogant attitude. Why don\’t YOU get YOUR facts straight before spouting off and defending FedEx\’s STUPIDpost DIService. There is no shortage of people complaining about no delivery at all or delivery times way beyond the 2-7 days time frame you claim FedEx SmartPost maintains. I mean, what did you think that everyone in this thread is just making this stuff up?

  17. Dave says:

Well I just received my Wii. It took 11-days to get here which is not too bad compared to some of your other StupidPost horror stories. Still, lesson learned, and I will definitely not go for the free delivery service from Circuit City or any other company which I suspect may use FedEx SmartPost anymore.

  18. Chuck says:

My package has been sitting in a sortation center for 6 days. Not sure where in this city that is but I am sure I could walk there in 6 days with time to spare. Still cannot find out when it will be delivered as I cannot get a live person at FedEx SmartPost and the local post office knowns nothing about this service. Remember the game button button who\’s got he button? Package package who\’s got the package. Li\’l Abner got his mail by US MULE and that was faster and more reliable.

  19. JOHN says:

SMARTPOST has got to be the worse possible shipping formula ever. A package that is normally received in 2 days by UPS is taking 14 days with SMARTPOST. The contents are now worthless after traveling all over the country and subjected to all kinds of weather and temperature. I will no longer order from any company that uses this terrible shipping concept.

  20. Larry says:

Stupidpost! For the person who was defending Fed Ex and SMARTPOST, let me say this. I have 7 years in logistics (Emergency Medical Delivery) and for 15 years I worked for USPS. I understand both. SMARTPOST is a good idea, but will not work. Why……accountability. NO ONE CLAIMS TO BE RESPONSIBLE. In any business, when you play the blame game, the consumer loses. I ordered from Fingerhut and they gave me two tracking numbers. The first was sent USPS and I received it 2 days later. The second was sent SMARTPOST. The first was my free gift, and the second was my $200 dollar phones. The first I tracked and knew exactly where it was. The second says \”NO RECORD\”. Fingerhut says it is in Dallas and will be delivered Tues. (5 days from now). I asked them how they knew that and they said SMARTPOST tracking. SMARTPOST web site says the same as USPS. \”NO RECORD\”. Who knows?

  21. Hal says:

FedEx SmartPost is a good way for a business to lose customers. Fed-Ex will blame the slowness on the USPS, and the USPS can blame it on Fed-Ex. Whoever thought it up should apologize to all businesses losing customers because of it. I ordered some filters, and the vendor used FedEx smart-post, so I cross that vendor from my list – without once complaining to either the vendor or to the carrier, (whoever claims to be the culprit). There are too many good vendors who care about customer service – why use one that uses such a terrible carrier(system). Fed-Ex HAD a good reputation – now I am not sure.

  22. kathy says:

why kill the messinger? the post office has 5 days to deliver after receiving the package. after the sortation center scan fedex no longer has custody of the package. it is totally under the control of usps, who i might add sucessfully delivers millions of these packages a week, tracking is a problem, but if you call fedex at 1800463339, they do have a phone number for smart post customer service. a little bit of research goes a long way

    • ryan says:

i called fedex they said they dont have a number for smartpost they said they delivered the pkg to the local post office they have not i called fedex and all i get is a run around but i will be going to the news media i am a week past my package date they dont know where the item is this is a 300.00 item

I agree that \”Smart Post\” sucks. I ordered merchandise from Sony Style, I had no choice of the shipper from that site. It\’s been 12 days so far from the order date. It was posted for shipment 7 days ago. Sony offers a tracking link and all it states is that it has been in my city\’s post office just sitting for the past four days. Item has not been delivered yet. What could take four days to get from one side of town to the other? I\’m not even in a big city.
This idea to put a great shipper together with the biggest US Government boondoggle is an awful idea. It makes FedEx look bad.

  25. jc says:

Now an opinion from an insider. I\’ve worked for FedEx for six years. Five with Ground and this past one with Smartpost. I\’m not an apologist by any means, but you have to understand that we are going through what you might call \”growing pains.\” For starters, Smarpost (formerly Parcel Direct) was only purchased by FedEx in 2004, so the streamlining of operating sytems is not even complete yet. Also bear in mind that Smartpost\’s largest competitor, Apex Logistics, filed for Chapter 11 in 2006. This lead to a massive growth in the volume that each Smartpost hub was sorting on a daily basis. The company had to open up four brand new sorting centers right smack in the middle of the 2006 peak shipping season. When I moved from Ground last year, I initially thought that it was the stupidest decision I had ever made. Now that we are integrating our shipments with those of FedEx Ground, there has been a remarkable improvement in our service. All I am saying is, understand what it\’s like for someone working in the trenches of a brand new shipping company, especially one that is attached to such an established name.

I am curious if you still work in this area and if so what the excuse is in 2010 for the same pathetic service or lack of service and reliability?

      • Kell says:

Agreed. I have a package that is 20 miles away, and states won’t be delivered until after christmas (third time the delivery date has been pushed). smartpost won’t release because it is technically property of usps. Offer the same service your big name carries with its other services. Now my kid won’t see some of his gifts under the tree. Btw by the time it is delivered it will be 16 bus days -twice the time the merchant stated on its website.

    • pam says:

  26. Lilee says:

I ordered an item from Sony Style and they used Fedex Smartpost. The tracking is abit of a problem, but I did receive my item in 4 days.

  27. racerrck says:

Post 22 your phone number is incomplete

  28. ajaan says:

Smartpost is lousy! Two separate shippings have gotten \”stuck\” in LA. The first ultimately took 3 1/2 weeks to get to me in Hawaii. The second has been sitting in LA for 10 days now and they tell me it will be another 10 days (making for a 1 month delivery time!). Smartpost customer service was utterly unhelpful, passing it off to some sort of labeling problem . . . they assume. If so, then how did it make it across the US to their LA facility in the first place??? They literally told me that they ship hundreds of thousands of packages and cannot go checking on mine!! Kudos to that customer service rep! I will insist that my vendors use a different shipping method even if it effects the bottom line since customer service (my customers) is the most important thing in my business, even if it isn\’t in theirs. As for comment #12, yes, I can read their website too and see that they promise delivery in 2-7 days. I\’d be fine with that if they actually lived up to it.

  29. Freedom of Speech says:

This is for Mr. Roger, #12: You must work for FedEx or have family who does. For the record, the last time I checked, Freedom of Speech is still in existence. People have the right to say what is on their minds, as well as tell others about their experience with any company that has not done their job properly or has crap Customer Service. We all know that things happen and with the amount of packages that are delivered all over the world, some will get misplaced. After reading the comments, I have come to the conclusion that there would not be so many bitter if one person took the time to help them. There is nothing worse than being brushed off or tossed to another person who ends up doing the same thing. The key to all this is simple….TRUTH. No one is looking for perfection with any company. Just tell them what has happened so they can take steps to fix it. Mr. Roger, get a clue and try adding some helpful, positive insight next time instead of criticism. Have a nice day. Good luck to all that have been a victim to being pushed aside, lied to or simply…never helped.

  30. Fed Ex says:

    i work at fedex smartpost

    • ryan says:

what is a phone number they lost my package and all im getting is we will call you i am going to the news media next week i am a week past getting my package and all they can say is we cant find it well thats not good enough it is a 300.00 item

      • SP Employee says:

Ryan, call Fed Ex at 1800-463-3339 . Make sure you have your tracking number . (without it, we can’t help ya ). When they bring up your tracking number and see it’s a smartpost pkg they will transfer you over to us at SP . If they don’t, ask to speak with someone in SP . Make sure you have your tracking number though, we can’t find the pkg without it .

        • Lynne says:

My experience here is you will then be told package was given to postal service and no longer trackable by fed ex and you will be told to contact the postal service who will send you back to fed ex, you will not get an answer or your package

        • pam says:

The fedex folks tell me there is no number to reach you at. I can’t call you….they can’t call you…so if you have a number…please share…I have called the 800# 3 times in the past week and no one from Smartpost has gotten back to me as was promised.

  31. Most of the time I will not shop at an online store that does not ship UPS. I insist on it, I depend on it, and I can be sure that they\’re accountable when it really matters. I made horrible the mistake AGAIN of using a store that ships fedex smartpost.

It left from Texas, went THE WRONG DIRECTION, finally got back on track, SAT IN THEIR FACILITY FOR 2 BUSINESS DAYS, finally back on track, MAKES IT INTO MY CITY AND LEAVES AGAIN, and finally is now heading towards delivery again.
I called and spoke to a fedex rep, and they said, not verbatim, but close enough:
    \”Thats the way it is\”.

  32. victim #32 says:

Hi all I now share in your misery with Fedex Scampost. I placed on order from performancebike.com during a free shipping special. They sent it scampost. After languishing in and bouncing from sortation centers it arrives at the post office only to be sent out again 500 miles away and come back later the same day. At least that is what the tracking says. I called to post office ready to rip them a new one for letting my package sit around for 5 days. The PO say they never received it and that scampost gives them problems all the time. Even though tracking says it was accepted at the post office, that only means it was listed so in a bulk manifest. It seems their tracking is nothing but an outlet for them to lie and divert blame for their staggering incompetence to the PO. I will never deal with scampost again.

  33. BayGrrl says:

FedEx has been delivering packages for USPS for awhile now. So I guess this is turn-about … USPS is now delivering for FedEx??? I sell quite a bit on eBay and have been using FedEx. Thank goodness, I recently discovered DHL — and they\’re closer than FedEx … AND CHEAPER TOO!! (hope their service is good!)

  34. Ivelisse says:

I am very mad with Fedex Smart Post service. I ordered a pair of shoes from pipelime on June 23. The package was sent on june 26th. When I call fedex i give them the tracking number piperlime gave me and sometimes they just dont know anything about my package but other times they tell me it is on its way. I\’ve ordered other things on the internet using UPS as my shipment carriers and it\’s fast and they give an excelent service. I called last week and some incompetent at fedex smartpost told me: \”You are going to receive your package anytime today or tomorrow\” and that was a week ago. Today is july 09, 2007 and IM STILL WAITING FOR MY PACKEGE!!!

  35. Al says:

ha….I agree with u guys….I worked at fedex smartpost….I myself wouldint send mail through their

  36. Melissa says:

I am in the same situation! I am still waiting for my package to arrive. I do alot of shipping and recieving and have had no problems before this shipment with smartpost. First of all the customer service is horrible and there are never any supervisors or anyone who knows what they are talking about. I asked the gentleman where he was located and he said the Phillipines. I could not believe it.They keep giving me the run around and one person says the package is on its way while another says it has not even left yet! This is the worst service I have ever encounterd! If some one wants to ship me a package from smartpost again I will close the account with the company!

  37. Mel says:

I\’ve now ordered from 2 stores that shipped via Smartpost and both were bad experiences. Big Surprise I know! The first one I thought for sure would never arrive. It was shipped from CA about 6 hours from where Iive. I could have drove there and back 10 times. The package reached the post office (according to Smarpost) on July 6. The tracking information at this point was never updated. I did finally recieve my pakage just the other day, on July 23. How ridiculous is this for a package shipped from California to California. I placed an order from Circuit City for a Nintendo Wii and a couple of games on July 20 and I noticed they shipped part of my order (the Nintendo Wii of course) via Smartpost. Great! This ones coming from TX to CA, so it should arrive in a couple months I guess. The funny thing is the other part (the video games) of my order that they shipped regular USPS has already arrived. So I\’m not very happy right now. It seems like more companies are using this service. I agree, it should be called Scampost!

  38. SUPER PISSED says:

I ordered some stuff from Woot on July 5th… I was waiting and waiting for the package, called the post office cause FedEX said they delivered it, they said they never got it, and I believe the post office, it is a small town so they just ran back to the back and looked. They said that FedEX just backs up to the door and unloads a pallet of stuff with one thing to scan and scanning that tells what should be on the pallet, they said it isn\’t uncommon for it to say there are say 42 packages and there only be 40. Anyway, today JULY 25TH, I finally receive my package, imagine my excitement, open the Woot box, open the other box and there is nothing in it but the tools CD and the manual!!!!! So after further inspecting the box I can see where someone pulled the label back, tore the address off I bet by accident, opened the other box and stuck a post-it note on the box with the address since they tore it off and taped the box back shut… I noticed someone saying something about Joe Blower Sorter Guy playing with their Wii, I think he is listening to MY media player as well…. I have a box opened by someone between me and woot that is empty to prove it….

  40. Jim says:

I recently had a package shipped from Performance Bike by SmartPost. It was held up at a sorting center in West Virginia for 3 days. But when it arrived in Kent, Washington it was shipped out on the following day and arrived at my home ahead of time. I just placed another order with Performance and it is being shipped by SmartPost. This time it arrived at the West Virginia sorting center late at night and left early the next morning. I do not have much to go on but it appears that the success of the shipping method depends upon the efficiency of the sorting center. Perhaps the efficiency will also improve with time. So far I am much more favorably impressed with the SmartPost than are most of the people that posted messages here.

  41. R.E. Spencer says:

I ordered 2 items from Circuit City by the I-net. Both shipped from a location around Los Angeles, Ca. I received the item sent by Fedex Ground in only 5 days (3000 miles). The 2nd unit was shipped SmartPost due to arrive no later than 14 days from ship date. It sat in Atla, Ga for 4 days and 22 hours according to the track info. Now it is in Charlotte, NC and has sat there over 2 days and who knows how much longer. Circuit City says no refund after 14 days. Oh,yeah? I will put the Trouble Shooter on our local TV station on them if I have to. I am thinking of buying one in the next town and refusing to receive the darn thing.

  42. Jim says:

My second order from Performance Bike was shipped from North Carolina on August 12. It went through the West Virginia and Kent, Washington sorting centers and arrived at my door on the morning of August 17, three days ahead of schedule. I consider shipping a package all the way across the country in 5 days to be excellent service. I have limited experience with SmartPost because I have only received 2 packages that were shipped by this method. However, so far I have to give SmartPost a high mark for efficiency.

  43. DoubleCoupon says:

I ordered a lithium battery from SonyStyle on August 2, 2007. The tracking system did not pick up anything for several days. Then the package made several stops at \”sorting stations\” on its way from Illinois. Then on August 11, Fed Ex says it delivered the package to my post office in southern California. On contacting the post office, they made several searches but had no record of it. On August 16, I tracked the package again……this time on its way BACK to Illinois. Why? SonyStyle Customer Service [a misnomer] says the package was damaged and is being returned to the shipper. No notification was ever made to me about the package return status. But wait, there\’s more! On contacting SonyStyle Customer Service, I asked to have another battery shipped to me. No, they said, I have to fill out a freight loss form which they would e-mail to me. I must sign this form and send it back to SonyStyle in order to get credit for the purchase. Yes, SonyStyle would send me another battery [free 1-day air shipping] but I\’d have to pay for it up front. To date I have not received the freight loss e-mail form. Trying to get through by phone to SonyStyle is difficult, requiring long waits \”for the next available operator.\” If I want another lithium battery, I\’ll have to wait for my SonyStyle credit refund and go out to Walmart to buy it! It appears that Sony is very regimented and is not in the least bit customer friendly.

  44. John F says:

TERRIBLE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Just terribly disorganized delivery service. FedEx takes your package and delivers your package to a FedEx SmartPost (company bought out by FedEx recently) sorting hub where they will sit there for many days on end until SmartPost has met the full truck load quota of packages for your destination hub. Half the time they send the packages to the wrong sorting hubs and then they end up sending it across the country. IF it does finally get to your city FedEx the pawns the package off onto USPS so that FedEx can\’t be held accountable for the condition of your package. I really can\’t stress enough how absolutely f-ing terrible this service is. I don\’t even screw around with online stores that deliver FedEx Smartpost as their Ground method of delivery. I won\’t buy from them. I\’d much rather spend a few extra dollars and not have to wait weeks to get my package or have to play phone tag with FedEx and USPS when they inevitably lose it and I need to get my God damn money back. Screw you FedEx!

  45. Victor says:

I ordered a pair of shoes from Foot Locker on 8/29 and it shipped 8/30. The package made its way fairly promptly from Wisconsin to Sacramento, but sat in Sacramento for 4 days and left 9/6, and later that day it was picked up by USPS. It\’s 9/10 and the package has been in the hands of the USPS in my own town for 4 days, not moving at all. Estimated delivery date was 9/7. Much too optimistic.

At least my package followed a proper route.

Maybe the tracking is just a load of bull to make you feel more hopeful. Post #10, is there anything at all that you can do about them losing your package?

  46. Chris says:

Hows this for a fast delivery:

8 days(Assuming is still makes it) to make it from a shipping center thats 3 hours away, wow, the efficiency! I can ship parcel post to BFE in 5 days via USPS. Amazing… I could have walked and picked it up by now. NEVER again.

    Let\’s rename it DUMB-ASS POST – - I am sooooo angry!

  52. Tatiana says:

OMG!!! If you thought the postal service couldn\’t get any worse… think again. I bought something at Circuit City and asked to have it delivered by USPS. To my surprise, they sent me a link to track it through FexEx Smart Post. This is the worst service ever! I\’m sure some software company ate someone\’s brain to make them invest millions in logistics technology that DOES NOT WORK! It\’s been over two weeks, I have not received my package, and this is the information I found today:

September 18, 2007 6:20 AM Sortation Center Departure ATLANTA, GA

Does anybody know how the *$#% it just left Altanta if it was in Orlando? That means someone did not record its transit for a whole week, and suddenly it magically appeared BACK in Atlanta. I\’m not using SmartPost or any other FedEx service again! Their logistics sucks.

  53. stacy says:

Hi, I\’ve worked for a variety of shipping companies (aka UPS and FedEx)…You guys should know that there are often many mis-scans with the parcels…aka they will appear to have left Atlanta when it was last scanned in Orlando. Also, FedEx Smartpost is a 7-9 business day delivery service. Weekends, holidays, etc do not count. If a company is telling you it will be there sooner than that, there are simply not telling you the truth. Packages will often stay in a sortation center for a few days; that is very typical. It\’s a low-cost shipping alternative, therefore it is much slower. You\’re package is not being stolen, it\’s not just sitting around, FedEx SmartPost handles the most domestic packages. Since they aren\’t charging their consumers much to ship, there is going to be a lag time. If they\’re charging you more than about $5 for shipping, they\’re taking that extra money to line their pockets. Ultimately, the liability for refunding to you belongs to the company you placed your order with. The shipping companies refund the companies you bought something from, and they in turn refund you. The reason the shipping company (aka UPS or FedEx) cannot give you personally any refund is because they aren\’t even allowed to see your customer information. The only information they have is a tracking number. They can\’t look up your name, your address, anything. It\’s simple confidentiality laws. Also, I\’d like to say that Sony is the worst company ever and openly lies to their customers. I\’m never ordering again from them, especially since I know that they are lying. The simple truth is, FedEx SmartPost is slow. It is cheap. You get what you pay for, and if you have complaints, the company you ordered from is the only one that can help you. If the company is claiming to not have information about your package, the liability lies with their shipping department, not FedEx SmartPost. Sorry, folks. The companies that choose to ship this way accept any liability for shipping errors, mistakes, and damages. The reason you can\’t get help from FedEx Smartpost, particularly, is because they are exclusively a corporate shipper. If you\’re not a representative from Circuit City, Coldwater Creek, etc, etc, they can\’t help you. I hope this helps clear up anybody\’s questions…

    • James says:

People like this guy is why smartpost doesn’t work worth a hoot! Not aware of their own policies. I personally have never had any carrier besides Fedex Smartpost ship packages to four different states before coming back to my home state where the package originated from. This is from Fedex’s website
“Transit Times typically 2 to 7 business days within the contiguous U.S., based on the final destination ZIP code. Longer transit times to destinations outside the contiguous U.S.”
      Not 7-9 business days!!!

This smartpost BS is horrible. I ordered over 500 dollars in packages form a company based in a neighboring state of mine. The order was shipped on a Monday and It is now 6 days later…STILL NO PACKAGE. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. tHE PACKAGE WENT UP TO ANOTHER NEIGHBORING STATE WHERE IT RESTED FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE MAKING ITS WAY DOWN TO MY STATE WHERE IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 2 MORE DAYS. i COULD HAVE WALKED TO THE COMPANY 300 MILES AWAY AND BACK FASTER THAN THIS. TERRIBLE. THE PACKAGE HAS BEEN AT MY LOCAL \”SORTING\” CENTER FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS JUST SITTING THERE. I ORDERED ANOTHER PACKAGE FROM ANOTHER COMPANY ON WEDNESDAY AND IT WAS ON MY DOORSTEP THE NEXT DAY, COMING FROM 800 MILES AWAY…I LOVE DHL EXPRESS. I HATE THIS FEDEX SMARTPOST BS. IT IS FEDEX AND USPS COMBINED DIVISION OF HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE EXPRESS.

    STUPID POST ever!

I will never use FEDEX SMARTPOST or buy anything from any company that use FEDEX SMARTPOST services (Yes, the company who support and offer this kind of unreliable delivery service is responsible too)!

I ordered a game console on 9/20/07 from http://www.circuitcity.com! Circuit City shipped the item out on 9/21/07 using FEDEX SMARTPOST. The tracking info is posted here for you information http://spportal.fedex.com/sp/tracking.htm?bgcolor=%23ecece1&CID=10234&PID=02185456310004563234.

After a month, it is still not delivered as promised! The last update of the tracking showed it was in Sacramento, CA on 9/25/07. It seemed that the item will be there forever! I\’m disappointed about this unreliable services made by these BIG NAME Companies, i.e. Circuit City, Fedex, as well as USPS. None of them were willing to help and were just trying to push the problem to one another! As a customer, I had no choice but to talk to my Credit Card Company!

From this lesson, I will totally avoid, and strongly recommend others not to, buying things from companies that use Fedexsmartpost. As a consumer, you don\’t deserve this lousy and ridiculous delivery service.

Needless to say, I havent received it yet and today is 11/03/07. The website says it is at my postoffice. Why isnt it here yet? This is a rip off and I will never use this type of shipping again. I just hope I DO receive my order. Austin, Texas

This is my 8th purchase from WOOT, and very possibly my last. My faith in FEDEX has been totally destoried. Fred Smith should be ashamed of such a travesty of customer service and remove the FEDEX brand as quickly as possible from this servive (possibility call it \”Slow and Unreliable, but CHEAP\”. My order has traveled the country for the past 15 days, when it should have taken 2 or 3 days at the most. This level of service makes losers of everyone: the retailer loses his customer, Fedex loses its reputation, USPS reaches a new low in delivery standards and the customer gets screwed.

Thanks WOOT, FEDEX and the POST OFFICE for your lousy service.

  62. Melissa says:

Glad to here I\’m not the only one who has problems with these companies. Apparently the well known terrorist organization, Gelalia coffee, has been targeted as several packages have been sent with the box opened and resealed with tape, or my favorite, rubberbands. I guess this wouldn\’t bother me so much if I didn\’t INGEST the stuff. I\’m just wondering if others are having the same problem.

  63. Matt says:

After reading these comments I\’m really worried, and also wondering what CC is thinking with DumbAssPost. I ordered a $400 Canon digital camera on 11/13 and they shipped it DumbAssPost. It left the sortation center in Dallas on 11/15 and is now in New Berlin, WI! Logistics my ass! I\’m almost exactly half way between Dallas and New Berlin, WI. I\’ll NEVER use this service again and I\’m thinking hard about dumping Circuit City over this one.

  64. jmanpalmer2 says:

I couldnt agree more with you guys. I am a contractor for fedex smartpost. There warehouse is a complete train wreck boxes are always misdelivered, and nobody seems to care. I love fedex but i hate smart post. Truth be told, The usps has a deal with fedex to have all of the first class, and priority mail shipped on fedex planes, and in turn the usps will give business to them a.k.a. smartpost. Because the postal service cannot afford to operate aircraft anymore. But unfortunately Thats all there is. Any catalog you order from either ships fedex, usps, dhl, or ups. What it comes down to is if you want it on time you have to pay out the ass. Smartpost also crams freight into my truck to the point that boxes are crushed and destroyed. I hate them for this shit.

  65. Shurak says:

Just another mad user. I HATE FEDEX SMART POST!

  66. I\’ve heard a lot of horror stories about SmartPost, but I can\’t say I\’ve every had a problem with them. Woot uses them a lot, in addition to other vendors I have purchased from, and they\’ve never lost a package, and while they do seem to take longer to deliver than other shipping methods, it\’s not more than a couple days difference. I guess I would feel differently if I ran into the kind of lack of accountability I\’m hearing about.

Ordered 3 items from Circuit City – iPod Shuffle, iPod Shuffle wall charger, and a memory card. The box arrived containing only the memory card. The box was clearly opened on the bottom and resealed. The packing information was peeled from the top inside of the box. No one will hold accountability! SmartPost says the package was just damaged during shipping…NO WAY…and to contact the company. Circuit City won\’t respond. I will never use either service and will tell everyone I know!

I too am dying waiting for something to come from smartpost. I ordered a laptop from circuit city and it came a week ago today through FedEx Ground. There was a deal along with it to get a wireless router, laptop case, and flash drive for cheap. That stuff was supposed to come today, 1 week after the laptop. I live in Pennsylvania and the package was in Pottstown so I finally figured any day now! But now the update says it\’s in Kent, Washington!! How is that POSSIBLE!? It can\’t possibly be any closer to coming now. And with all the stories on here of packages being lost and stolen, I\’m getting worried. It originally left from Oklahoma, then it went to Texas, then West Virginia, then Pennnsylvania, and like I said now it\’s in Washington, further away than it was originally shipped from!! This is totally ludicrous. If I ever think something will be shipped smartpost again I will cancel the order immediately. And I wasn\’t trying to get cheap shipping either, I wanted both packages at the same time and would have paid if I\’d been given a choice; I wasn\’t because it had to be ordered over the phone. What good is a laptop for over a week without internet!? smartpost, what is wrong with you?! It\’s been 10 days now, tomorrow will be 11 if it still doesn\’t come. It better get its ass to my doorstep.

  71. Barb says:

Smartpost is anything but smart and I think it is outrageous, that companies do not openly tell you beforehand, that they will ship smartpost. Supposedly it is a cheaper method, but I have yet to find a dealer who passes the savings on to the customer. If given the choice, I would never buy from a store that uses smartpost as the only option. My last shipment was going back and forth between our town and the neighboring town on a daily basis for a whole week. Neither fedex nor USPS feels responible. This service sucks!

  72. SmartPost Hater says:

I am an employee at FedEx Smartpost and I am not ashamed to say how HORRIBLE this place is. The management have no personnel standards which in regard, require the worker to work more for less and of course do worse at their job. Of course FedEx seems like a wonderful place to work, its a notorious company that takes advantage of the underdog who serve them. It all comes down to money. I have asked for many favors as simply as direct deposit, many say they will help, but nothing happens, having such a simple service at hand is trechourous, for over a month this has on been going on but I hear the same thing every time, \”Next week\”. I need a job and the money otherwise I would never be at this place, I recommend absolutley NO ONE to apply here because everyone\’s perspective is the same, after the first week they want to quit, but they can\’t cause it\’s an easy job to get. It\’s pretty obvious why it is so easy to get. The horrible service starts with the management and with poor management means poor workers and it will never end. I hate FedEx smartpost!

I ordered this shit on Dec. 9th thinking there would be no problem getting it to me in NY by this weekend. This is the worst shipping service I\’ve ever encountered, and I\’m shipping coordinator for my company. My contacts at FedEx know nothing of SuckPost. It was only when I found this page that I found out they will hand my package off to the post office. Worst. Service. Ever. I hope they do away with this shit program. Needless to say, I will not be buying from any company that uses this \”service\”.

  74. cathie says:

I ordered a sewing machine for my grand daughter from Young Explorers. I thought it was being shipped UPS. It was shipped by \”Smart Post\” December 17, and today, December 20th, it still does not have a tracking number. After reading about this company, I think I will have a very disappointed grand child on Christmas. I paid $10.95 for shipping.

  75. tweety4609 says:

i totally agree!!! i have been waiting for a package since nov 29. i figured i\’d have it by christmas. well here we are 5 days till christmas and still no package. lousy service.

  76. Azmi says:

Here is one more instance of crappy service by FedEx Smartpost. I ordered something on buy.com on 12/7 they shipped it on 12/9 and I havent received it till date(12/21). Here is a snippet of response from buy.com:

\”Please allow 7-9 business days and it may take up to 12 business days for the item to be delivered from the date it as shipped. If you still haven\’t received the order, please send us another e-mail and we will take the necessary steps to get the item delivered.\”

When I check the tracking info it shows:
    Status: Sortation Center Arrival
    Date Time Description Location
December 14, 2007 7:05 AM Sortation Center Arrival LOS ANGELES, CA
December 13, 2007 5:32 AM Sortation Center Departure DALLAS, TX
December 12, 2007 3:09 PM Sortation Center Arrival DALLAS, TX
December 12, 2007 2:15 PM Pickup CARROLLTON, TX

So I called up FedEx smartpost to check why is it stuck in LA and all they had to say was it indeed is stuck in LA and I should contact the shipper to know why its in this state. Calling buy.com I just get a reply that its in transit wait for some more time. I ordered 10 shipments from various vendors much after this and they all have arrived well before their estimated delivery date.

  77. Heidi says:

I am having problems with this \”Smart\”Post too. I order a package from a personalization company on December 2nd. The company got behind and then shipped out the package on the 12th and would not upgrade my shipping from their mistake. So it left on the 12th from Illinois, went to Wisconsin, then West Virginia, then Georgia. The estimated delivery date was the 20th. On the 17th, my local post office received the shipping information from FedEx electronically, and then FedEx says it entered the USPS in my local town on the same day. The post office, however, never receieved it. When I went to the post office, they looked up the tracking number and found that it was scanned in another town, possibly sent back to Nashville, TN for resorting…but in short, nobody has any clue where my package is. It\’s a personalized Christmas gift for my mother worth $200, and I am leaving today with no present. Calling SmartPost too has resulted in nothing…I\’ve emailed them and called them and left my number and a message, both with no replies. I am so upset with this company…and with the company I ordered my item from being as big of a pain as SmartPost, I\’ll doubt if I ever receive either the package or my money back.

  78. Chris says:

It\’s the holiday season and the business I ordered from decided to use smartpost for their free shipping. What a joke. My delivery date was yesterday and no package. I\’ve been trying to track it online and its been in the same place for 7 days. Tried calling their customer service and it too was a joke. I could not get a hold of anybody because it was a saturday. No customer service on the weekend even though they deliver on saturdays. It\’s two days before christmas, and now my wife won\’t be recieving one of her gifts until AFTER christmas. Again FedEx SmartPost is a joke!!!

  79. Peter Bond says:

Smartpost is anything BUT. It is the WORST service ever imagined. I will never again buy ANYTHING from CircuitCity because they sent it by this stupid method and it\’s been 15 days, and I\’m still waiting. Whoever thought of Fedex Smartpost should be fired!

somehow is it acceptable to take OVER A MONTH? 8 effing days in a texas \”sortation center\”. sounds to me like someone lost it and then randomly stumbled across it whilst throwing out their 4th starbucks for the day and decided it should probably be put back into circulation. The expected arrival date is 5 weeks from original date of order. Ridiculous.

  82. ksax says:

    A few comments—

    Quoted from the shirt.woot.com site:
Slow shipping is on us, via FedEx SmartPost. Thatâ??s our $0 shipping option. If youâ??re cheap and patient, just let SmartPost do its thing, and your shirt should be in your hand in 5-100 business days.

Secondly, in reference to eliot… FedEx DumbPost is not totally to blame…
—Woot did not give the shirt to FedEx until the 19th. That is when it was picked up.
—There was also a huge holiday in there, which usually makes things slow to a screeching halt…Christmas.
—When you bought it, you were told (reference above) that you need to be patient.

And everybody that has lost items, go back and make sure you get a claim filed in some way. File a chargeback if need be on your credit card. You have a right to not have your package stolen.

I will not order from Lady Footlocker again. Been waiting for soccer cleats since 12/27 and the order spent 7 calendar days in the sortation center – one that is 90 miles from me. So frustrating. I could have just driven up there and picked up the cleats from them, if they allowed that. And LFL charges for Standard shipping (and some of your posts list FREE shipping from various companies) I should have forked over the cash and paid for the 3-5 calendar days or shipping is free guaranteed. They did not list who they actually use for shipping. Had I known and found this site beforehand, I most likely would not have ordered cleats from them.
Plus the girl I spoke to didn\’t know whether I needed to be there to sign for the package. Useless outsourced twits. Ugh.

    What a mess!

  88. Liz says:

I have my comments to add about fedex smart post. I placed an order before Christmas with a company. The package was shipped on december 24th, I called the company on January 2nd to get the tracking number. It was shipping fedex smart post, this is my first and last experience with them. On 1/2 it got to one state, on 1/4 it was in another state set to be sent to the post office on 1/7. I called Fedex on 1/9 and was told the post office should have it but there was no record of it online. Called the post office several times and the package was not there. Called fedex back and they said it was still in the sorting center. Went online 1/10 to see if there were any updates and it still showed the package in the sorting center. I called fedex again and they said they did not know where the package was that I should call where I ordered the item and see what they could do to get me another sent out. I called and was told to call fedex back and tell them the package was in their posession, they are responsible for it and to find it. So I call fedex and told them, fedex said the package was damaged and to call the company back and tell them to resend the item. I called and was told since it was damaged they would send out another one. Guess what, the package was just delivered, it had been opened but everything seems to be there. By the way according to fedex the package is still in the sorting center and has not been delivered!

  89. Joe says:

Can\’t say anything that others already haven\’t…delivery times are just pitiful. My first package that came SmartPost took 20 days from California. First it spent a week sitting in LA before shipping to the East Coast, then 10 days sitting in Edison, NJ and then it finally made it my local post office which then took an additional two days. Now another eTailer I bought from chose this ridiculous service. The package made if from Louisville, KY to Edison, NJ in 1 day and now package #2 is just sitting there languishing in Edison. I actually spoke to an in-law this weekend who works for FedEx and I told him the SmartPost service is abysmal and he agreed. GREAT! All I can say is that I will call the eTailer before ordering to assure they DON\’T use this service. If they do then I\’ll opt for some place else.

  90. very unhappy customer says:

I thought I was the only one that has suffered from StupidPost and after reading this, I am amazed to see that others had it worse. At least I EVENTUALLY got my package, only that it was too late. I ordered a whole bunch of stuff from Amazon, some from its affiliated sellers in mid Nov 07. Guess what, everything else but the StupidPost one arrived within a week. The StupidPost packaged still didn\’t arrive after two whole weeks, and by the time I got it it was already too late since it was a present and I needed to leave end of Nov intending to bring it with me on the trip. I have never liked FedEx (UPS is the best; even USPS is way better) – everything from it is an overpriced piece of crap, and the the StupidPost is THE crappiest service ever, from ANYONE!!! Don\’t companies know that using StupidPost, even though it might save them a few bucks NOW, is really hurting their business in the long run. For example, I will NEVER buy from Avon online again because they use it.

I just ordered something from American Eagle and found out today that they also ship via StupidPost. Oh Lord – the nightmare!!! I swear in the future I will call the companies and if I find out they use StupidPost I won\’t even order. It\’s THAT bad.

  91. NEVER AGAIN!!! says:

I TOTALLY & COMPLETLEY agree with every single person on here that says \”smartpost\” sucks!! I feel bad for those of you that ordered really expensive items & had to worry about thier whereabouts..I only ordered clothing from american eagle outfitters BUT, you would think these bigger companies like american eagle, circuit city etc. would use a reliable carrier..I have been ordering clothes etc. online for the last few years now & have ALWAYS experienced timely delivery UNTIL NOW WITH THIS FREAKIN\’ SMARTPOST!!!.. & what\’s sickening is the fact that they say \”FEDEX\” smartpost to snake people into believing it is the same as regular fedex delivery!! if I would have known this was gonna be the result of ordering through this carrier, I would have just shopped in the store!!!..I ordered my package last saturday, now I realize it has only techincally been 5 buisness days, but, I would have recieved my package for sure if it has been through regular fedex or ups…not sitting in leetsdale sortation center 45 min\’s away for 3 days now!!!! this company must be run by the \”moron\’s\” of fed ex that are too stupid to be employed by the regular carrying system!! good luck to all of you that are still waiting to recieve your packages!!

  92. Ron says:

After seeing how long the ESTIMATED delivery date was (still en route) on the tracking site, I Googled \”Fedex smart post sucks\” on a frustrated whim; wow, what a lot of dissatisfied customers. The retailers who use it are going to create a lot customers who never buy again. RepairClinic.com charged me $5.99 to ship a 1-ounce piece of plastic, which might have cost a buck for regular mail, which would have gotten it here in less than a week, instead of SmartPost\’s 9-day estimate (which may be longer, from what I\’ve seen above). A seller of repair parts should be aware that customers will be totally unhappy with a shipping method that takes LONGER than regular mail. I will be very careful in the future.

  93. Jammy kang says:

the method behind the madness: There are few trucks designated solely to delivering Fedex packages to the usps, and those trucks are full with premium FedEx parcels. If the trucks at any given sortation center are full, Fedex will simply send your \”SmartPost\” package internally, and virtually ANYWHERE they can, in an attempt to keep their local percentages of \”fluid processing\” up. In fact, some sortation centers have next to ZERO trucks designated for USPS conversions, ergo people in some regions (seemingly ALL of them) may experience extreme delays, or never see their goods at all.

  94. ANDREW MUNDAY says:

FED EX what a joke they dont know what they are doing now they have brought anc i fear that they will ruin a good company good luck to all those who send parcels by them

  95. Rick says:

It\’s a good thing that you have a choice on how to ship your shit. If you want to be cheap send it FedEx Smartpost, or if you want to pay a premium go Fedex Express or if you want it to get lost or damaged go UPS!

Its infuriating that FedEx touts it as a timely way to ship packages to customers, when the reality is that its a terrible service that isnâ??t getting packages delivered within 2-7 days, as declared in the service description. After a week, my package finally arrived a sortation center about 20 miles away from my house, where it been sitting for several days now, and has yet to be accepted by USPS. This service is piece of crap, and is certainly deceptive to customers, with a service description that is completely misleading, as it should state a transit time of something like 10-20 business days or so like it actually is. I will never order anything again that has the possibility of being shipped via SmartPost.

Maybe Fedex to USPS to delivery address is supposed to take the same time as Fedex ground only, but every time a shipper has used it for my packages (several dozen so far), it takes at least 3-5 days longer than any other ground shipping. Those are the facts- like it or not!

\”\”Ok, I have read enough bashing about FedEx SmartPost. For those of you that donâ??t have a clue about logistics; as I can tell by your comments you donâ??t, a sortation center is basically the same as the post office calls a Bulk Mail Center. They receive the parcels; or mail for those of lesser minds, and sort it to the closest zip code allowing direct delivery of items from a shipper. Which FedEx SmartPost has got down to most of your local post offices.

As for delivery times for SmartPost verses FedEx Groundâ?¦ Both take the exact time to deliver to your home. 2-7 days, and since FedEx SmartPost is using the Postal Service for final delivery, I would say that is damn good.
Now for the pricing issue I have read about. Let me just say that most of the places you would order from not only charge you the amount for shipping, but they also charge you to package the item and handle it until it is picked upâ?¦
To end this rambling, let me just say before you go blasting a company, know your facts.\”\”

The first time I used smartpost the post office claimed they tried to deliver it and never did. So I had to go and pick it up from the post office. Now the second time around my package is being held up at the post office again. It\’s been there since Friday. I thought well maybe they\’ll deliver it Sat or Mon. Nope still hung up at the PO. So I called the PO on Tues and they said oh yeah it\’s here and we\’ll get it out to you today. It\’s now wed, and I don\’t get off in time to pick it up, what a bummer service. Just pure genius.

The smartpost packages must not be a priority. I think that is why they get sent to the boondocks and back before you get it…if you get it! Just pure genius…the things people do to create jobs…unnecessary jobs…unnecessary postage. Smartpost cost the same amount to ship UPS. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh…it should be called DUMBPOST!!!

I found this site after ordering a Wii from Circuit City and getting the weird tracking # from Fed ex smartpost that really didn\’t tell me a damn thing. I did receive the package after 5 days. What a surprise and relief. Good luck everyone, I still wouldn\’t recommend this service and will never use it again based on what I have read here and the limited access to information about the package being shipped.

  113. Jennifer says:

Like y\’all, I found this site while attempting to track a SmartPost shipment. I ordered some quilting stuff from ConnectingThreads.com, which shipped via SmartPost on 4/25. It\’s 5/9, and the damned thing still isn\’t here. Other things I ordered around the same time were shipped by regular mail from further away and got here forever ago (real time: last Saturday, and earlier last week)! Good thing I wasn\’t in the midst of a quilting emergency, LOL!

SmartPost usually takes ages in my experience, but I fear this one may be lost. According to the tracking info, my local P.O. was notified to expect the package on April 29, and nothing\’s happened since then.

I am a longtime customer (both business and personal) of regular Fedex and have never had an issue with their service. I have found it to be exemplary. I really have a hard time understanding why SmartPost is so bad.

  114. Caleb says:

Same situation here. American Eagle (ae.com) has started using FedEx SmartPost, replacing USPS as their standard shipping service. Still haven\’t received it. Is there anywhere with a running list of online vendors who ship with FedEx Smartpost, so we can know who to avoid buying from?

  115. K.H. says:

This is the first time I have heard of this service, but I ordered from New York & Co, the package was shipped 5/12, now it\’s 5/21! The tracking says it\’s been in my town since 5/16. This service is a joke. Fedex might be ok but the USPS part is ridiculous. I read the Smartpost info on the Fedex website–this is supposed to be a FAST service (2-7 days), but his is obviously not the case! SOOOOO disappointed! I want my package…now!

  116. Driver says:

The company I work for receives the SmartPost parcels from FedEx and delivers it to the DDU\’s. The loads come in generally to us the night before delivery. I know FedEx makes alot of mis-ships. 29 stops on our route and boxes are bound to get mis-sorted once in awhile. At the end of the day . . . there is usually 20 to 30 boxes that were sent to be on our route that actually were destined to every other part of the country. 30 boxes out of 2000? 1.5% of them are mis-sorted. I think thats damned good. I mean would you buy from an eBay seller with 98.5% positive? Thats almost more effective than most birth control. The speed on the other hand . . . you get what you pay for.

If I knew then what I know know. This FedEx Smart post should suffer legal consequences for their incompetence. I\’m waiting 12 days now for a packgage from UT to MA. It\’s expected to arrive June 6, 2008 which will be 16 days in transit. The USPS priority mail takes 2 days and charges $4.60. I paid $6.95 and honestly don\’t think I\’ll ever see the pakage. When you think of it though it\’s the company that uses smart post to save money but eventually loses because I will never order from a \’smart post\’ company again…like ever again!

    Feel free to offer more.

I ordered shoes off Amazon through Shoemall on the 22nd of May. Looking back on it, I should have ordered from a different vendor that used UPS, not FedEx. Either way, I ordered the shoes, they were picked up the next day and sent to the \’sortation center\’ in MN, where they stayed for 5 days. They slowly made their way to WV, where they were for 2 days, then in PA for near 4 days. Surprisingly enough the shoes actually made it to my house before the estimated delivery date by 1 day. After watching the progress of my shoes across the country, I expected the shoes to come no less than 3 days after the expected date, especially after reading all these posts. I cannot say that FedEx suck/dumb/scam post screwed me over as bad as many of the other posters here, but I can say that I will avoid using this service by any means. And still, the service took an incredibly long time, where as UPS would have taken a week or less I would guess. My best wishes to all those who got screwed by FedEx and lost or are still waiting for their packages.

FedEx isn\’t the only one who has this service- UPS has the same thing called Mail Innovations. The service is ECONOMY, so YES it is SLOW. The company you order from creates those shipping costs that they charge you, not FedEx SmartPost. SmartPost only gets about $2 to ship your package- that\’s why it takes so long. Take your complaints to the companies you order from. For future reference, there are only 20 sortation centers around the country, so it won\’t always go to your particular state. If you want it faster, you\’ll have to pay more money. Go complain to the company if you\’re so mad about the way they\’re shipping it.

    FEDEX SMART POST:
WHAT A JOKE. THE WORST SERVICE EVER IN PROBABLY 40 YEARS. CAN NOT TRACE IT NO HOW. NEVER AGAIN. ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE I WOULD EXPECT TO BE A TOTAL DISASTER. IF USPS WAS A PRIVATE COMPANY THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN OUT OF BUSIESS YEARS AGO. BOB WARSHAW-SARASOTA, FL

  132. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH says:

Even if you complain they made so basically nobody is responsible and your package can get lost and nobody will cover it and nobody will take your complaints because somehow thats not their fault. I say that FedEx SmartPost is the worst shipping i\’ve ever used. How can FedEx even be affiliated with these losers?

  133. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH says:

I like Fedex and it does everything fine but this smartpost thing doesn\’t work

  134. Katrina says:

Oh no oh no…ordered from Walmart.com and they\’re using smartpost…really, REALLY scared now!!!!

  135. Joyce says:

I recently placed an order with the on-line catalog of a company that uses FedEx Smartpost. When I went on-line to track status, I came across this weblog. After reading these comments, and having had no prior experience with FedEx Smartpost, I was seriously concerned about receiving my package soon or even at all. But the concern was for nothing. The package left the company on June 23, and the mailman delivered it to my door the morning of June 30…. 5 business days later (I read somewhere their delivery time is 7-9 days). There were 2 sortation centers involved — at one the turnaround was a day and a half, and at the other the turnaround was 2 hours (in the middle of the night no less). So I agree with weblogger #40 (Jim) who said \”So far I am much more favorably impressed with the SmartPost than are most of the people that posted messages here.\”

  136. Kali says:

All pissed off folks about \”smartpost\”…I have it!!!! I won\’t go through all the pains it took me to get it, but you need to go to https://spportal.fedex.com/sp/track
put in the long tracking number, and there you have it TRACKING INFORMATION! how sweet it is. And YES smartpost sucks and I told fed-ex that very thing!

  137. Kali says:

go to this site https://spportal.fedex.com/sp/track…..it took me an hour on the phone w/ fed-ex but I got it!

I used to work there a few years ago. Just had a shipment sent from Amazon via SmartPost. Burrrr, sent a cold chill down my back. So, I did a few searches on SmartPost and see nothing but hate. Glad I dont work there anymore. Hope I get my package within a month. Site said 3 to 5 days, I know they could not possibly do it that fast since the transfer to the post office takes that long.

  140. Vivian says:

I absolutely agree. FedEx SmartPost is suck! But more online stores love to use it just to save couple bucks. I ordered two cosmetic sets (two seperate orders) from lancome.com on June 14. I was very concerned since I knew they used SmartPost (their tracking is so bad–slow/ not update/ long stupid shipping routes). I really need to get these two sets (as gifts) back to my home country on June 29. So I think I suppose to get these on time, right? But guess what! Two packages was sent out at the same time on June 15, 08. First package arrived on June 27, 08 (yes almost 2 weeks). and the second one came on June 30, 08 — one day after I left… well well well

While waiting to get these, I contacted USPS and SmartPost but they are suck! They said they have the same information as shown in the website… I also did contact lancome.com if there\’re any other ways they can track or do something.. But they\’re abosolutely useless– asking me if I misunderstand something on the orders …. how awful!

That was it! With SmartPost and lancome.com

I totally agree with you. I had two things shipped by Buy.com. They used this Stupidpost. Both of them took almost a month to get in my hands. And I couldn\’t find where they were then they were on the road. It\’s terrible service. Just for that, I am not going to buy anything from Buy.com because they use Smartpost for shipping. Not like Amazon, the shipping over $25 is free, and they use mostly UPS, and it\’s fast.

I just ordered two computers from Circuitcity couple days ago, and it notified me my items were shipped by Fedex Smartpost. What a bad newsï¼?Another one months to wait? If they took too long like last time, I am going to return them as soon as I get them. I hate this shipping service, anyone who uses it, I am not going to buy anything from them.

  143. Ryan says:

I actually think smartpost is a solid option. Every service has its failures, but a couple of bad apples don\’t spoil the orchard.

  144. Melissa says:

Thank you sooo much post 136. Everytime I tried to track my package it would tell me that there was no record of it, but through your link it finally came up!!! Lets just see how much longer I have to wait for it to arrive even though its been sitting in my state for 2 days.

  145. Mike says:

Damn smartpost, I wish I paid the extra couple dollars to get better service.

  146. Bill says:

I really wish I\’d have known about this blog and about smartpost (really?!! Smart?!!) before I ordered from a company that uses them- I was led to believe that they used USPS. My package is listed as departing from LEETSDALE,PA 3 days ago. That\’s only 90 miles from my house. The estimated delivery date is 8/27, yesterday- I would like to think I might get my package tomorrow, but now I think these retards might have it on a leisurely stroll across the US. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER again!!!!

  147. amanda says:

For those of you complaining about woot, The problem lies with them. I work with a fedex that receives packages from woot to be shipped and the packages coming from DLTX almost always have zip code errors which means these packages came to another sortation center because the zip that was scanned to the package was the incorrect zip. This sends the package to the area around the zip that was entered. Also alot of times fedex can\’t give you information on your package because theres no information there. For example if your package label was damaged, wrinkled or in some way not able to be scanned it must be overlabeled with a new label. Before now there was no way to track your package after we overlabeled it. We now have a labeler that can just print that same label. If you are expecting your packages in 2-3 days the company you ordered from lied to you about the shipping time.

  148. Christine says:

I will share my tracking information with you. I ordered something and received a delivery notification on 09/15/2008. As you can see the SmartPost starts on 09/17/2008. Not sure where it was for the other two days. I don\’t know if this is supposed to be a cheaper solution but I paid $10.99 to ship two things from Limited Too. They may be saving money by using SmartPost but the savings are definitely not passed on to the consumer. I guess I won\’t be ordering from them again. Below is my tracking information. I went to the post office today (09/29/2008) and the package is still not there. It only states that my post office has been \”notified\” that it is coming. What sense does that make? It has been a full two weeks now!

I can\’t believe FedEx gets away with this. My Krups expresso machine blew a small rubber seal and I ordered it on line on Sunday Oct 19th. Krups said they shipped it on Monday the 20th and I got this tracking stream. Supposedly it\’s been at my postoffice for 2 days but I don\’t have the seal and no one can tell me where it is. FedEx smartpost with USPS is very bad. I agree with the views above that the service should be avoided. Packages sit at their sites and go nowhere for days.

I would like to do a more thorough study of people\’s experiences with SmartPost, good and bad. Can each you send me as many TRACKING NUMBERS as you can find on packages shipped to you through SmartPost? PLEASE SEND IT TO MY EMAIL ADDRESS: eabrill@mindspring.com

If possible, please also tell me this information for each package, to the extent you remember it:

    1. The seller name.
    2. Where the seller\’s distribution center is located (may be different from the Seller\’s business address shown on its Website or on invoices).
    3. What day you actually placed the order, and the time of day if you remember (or at least whether you made the deadline for that day specified on the Seller\’s Website). I want to figure out how much delay occurs between order-placement time and the time when your package actually reaches the first SmartPost facility.

Please don\’t \”cherry pick\” your bad experiences. Send me the good ones too. If I get a reasonable sampling from people on this site, I\’ll post my findings here. I think you\’ll find them interesting. REMEMBER: Please send this to my email address: eabrill@mindspring.com

    Thank you.

It seems that some of the posts here are confusing Fedex Smartpost with Fedex Ground. Fedex Ground service is 2-3 day and you pay more for it. Fedex Smartpost is a deeply discounted option for high volume shippers.Keep a few things in mind to why packages could be delayed. First the shipper has a to fill a full trailer before it is sent to a smartpost facility. A trailer could sit at the customer for days. The packages are then sorted at smartpost and ship to another facility and/or eventually to the USPS. After the USPS receives the package it takes a few days for them to get it to your house. Also consider that Smartpost cannot make that delivery to the USPS on a federal holiday but they can move packages within their system. The average time for a package from the first smartpost location to the usps is 3 business days. That doesn\’t mean it gets to your house in 3 days. It seems that many shippers are not passing the discount on to their customers. Therefore people assume they are paying for Fedex Ground Shipping and they receive SmartPost shipping.

I wish Walmart would have given be an option to choose shipping carriers. I would have never used Fedex Smart post. I experience first hand how long it took for my order to arrive from Circuit City to the US Virgin Islands. I believe it was 14-15 days. It could have been longer. Needless to say I did not get my package in time for Xmas last year. Now, I am going back and forth between, Walmart, USPS and Fedex and no one can tell me when I can expect my package. What a shame! I really thought shipping with Fedex you get 1st class service, yeah right.

I bought 3 orders from WOOT.com a week – 10 days before Christmas this year. Each was advertised as being shipped 2 day FEDEX Express shipping. Each was shipped FEDEX Smartpost. None arrived anywhere near on time.10-20 days is about right. The address we supplied was both our PO Box and physical address. I contacted both FEDEX and through them a FEDEX Smartpost agent.Otherwise there\’s no way to get a human being. His comments ranged from \”it\’s not our fault if WOOT chose to ship Smartpost\” (true!) and \”it\’s your problem if you ordered that late\” There was neither any help or even an \”I\’m sorry\” The woman at the post office told me they hadn\’t delivered anything for three days and Smartpost is very backed up. This is a terrible \”service\” It involves waiting for a full load going to X. If your package is one of the first, prepare for a long wait. If it\’s one of the last, it may arrive in reasonable time.

This cheapens the FEDEX name. FEDEX had been a synonym for fast efficient service. Now, most FEDEX packages will take an irritatingly long time to arrive. The Post office does much better. UPS Ground is better.

  162. Lisa says:

It seems Fedex Smartpost hasn\’t gotten any better of the years! I ordered a package from DSW and they held it for 3 days then it reaches Kent, WA on December 18, 2008, according to tracking didn\’t leave their facility until December 26, 2008-keep in mind the estimated in home arrival was December 23, 2008. I was told that I should now receive it by December 30, 2008, it is now January 2, 2009 and it is not here! So much for ordering in time for Christmas. I tried calling Fedex Smartpost on two occassions, they are not taking calls. DSW doesn\’t care, as all they do is refer me to the tracking information. My local post office is frustrated as well, because they haven\’t seen a Fedex Smartpost delivery in two weeks. Bottom line is I wish I would of had a choice on how this was shipped-it definetely would not be going Fedex.

  163. Anthonio says:

On December 20th 2008 I ordered a PS3 and a game along with it. The game shipped via USPS and was in the Post Office by the 26th. The PS3 was shipped by FedEx Smart Post. It shipped like within like 2 days, couple days later it moved through a couple of states, which I thought was normal. But now it\’s stuck at a frigging Sortation Center in Carolina, Puerto Rico for 6 days now. I mean come on now, what the hell am I supposed to with a game for a system that I don\’t even have yet. If I had known that this would have happened I seriously would have considered spending en extra $150 to get it locally. I don\’t know what to think right about now, could it be that my package has been stolen yet again, or is it just delayed or what have it. Hopefully it gets here in one piece within the next couple of days, but if it means I have to spend a little bit extra to get it locally or from a RELIABLE company, then I guess that\’s what has to be done.

  164. Steve says:

I ordered a package on Dec 15th for christmas. It was shipping through fedex smartpost, which I didn\’t know at the time. It was returned to the shipper stating I had moved. I called, reordered it and had a second package shipped. This package has now been returned stating I moved. Now this is USPS who delivers the package, the same postal people who left me mail each day with my name on it. So if I moved from this place I lived for 9 years, why is my mail still coming to me each day but they can\’t deliver a package? When you call they can\’t locate the package. I only found out it was returned to sender because the shipping company had received it back. They are now trying to ship it a third time and to a different address. I hope they stop using smart post and I have sent a complaint to them to do so. Monkeys could deliver a package better than the people working for Smartpost. And don\’t bother trying to call them, you get told them have to many phone calls and can\’t answer the phone. Then you get disconnected. Maybe if they didn\’t loose everybodys package they wouldn\’t get so many phone calls. And a rep for Fedex themselves said even they can\’t reach a human being that works for smartpost to get any answers. Even they hate that service.

  165. Annoyed says:

This is still a problem. I ordered a package (replacement software from MS) and it shipped from Ohio. It has taken 5 days to get the item from their Grove City \”Sortation Center\” to the FedEx location in my State. The delivery date has now changed 3 times since shipping. It was \”supposed\” to arrive today originally but now says 1/15. This service is garbage, why can\’t FedEx deliver the package themselves? If they had just put it on their own truck this morning at the sort center, it would arrive today but instead they added the extra and completely unnecessary step of giving it to the Post Office to deliver. This is the worst business idea I\’ve ever seen. I see no value added in the SmartPost service vs. regular shipping services. Next time I\’ll insist on UPS ground; I received a package shipped 1/4 of the way across the country THE NEXT DAY using them.

  166. Carter says:

Amazon just sent me something vis SmartPost. It sat on their doc for 5 days, and now it is slowly crawling to my home. Amazon sent me a notification that the item shipped USPS, but the tracking number doesn\’t work. So I plugged it into FedEx.com, and found a match. So watch out – Amazon is using this shit now too!

  167. Jack says:

Ordered some items from bassproshops. One part of my order was delivered 2 days later via USPS even though i selected just standard shipping which was 3-6days. The other half is coming via \”smartpost\”…it has been departing Indianapolis now for 3 days and I live about an hour and 45 minutes away. The USPS tracking site still has no record of it. What a freaking joke this service is.

  168. Tom says:

FedEx SmartPost costs considerably less than the service levels with which many of these comments compare it (e.g., UPS Ground, FedEx Ground, USPS Priority Mail, etc). The postal service categorizes these FSP shipments as economy (as opposed to Priority or Express). So, they get the lowest grade of service once the postal service takes over the delivery process. If you choose something because it\’s cheap(er)– such as a shipping method like this– you may end up getting what you paid for. If your vendor didn\’t give you faster (more expensive) shipping options from which to choose or didn\’t accurately disclose estimated FSP delivery times, then shame on your vendor. The reality is that a shipping method categorized as \”economy\” is being used and, as a result, you\’re getting exactly what you (or your vendor) saved money by using. FSP does have a place, but it\’s for inexpensive, non-time sensitive deliveries. It may sound like I\’m defending the service, but I am really not. Honestly, I\’ve never used it but I am very familiar with how it works. I would never use FSP for anything that I ordered online that I REALLY wanted. Maybe I would use it for items valued under $10 for which I could wait at least 2 weeks to receive… or MAYBE if that vendor would otherwise \”gouge\” me with more expensive (faster) delivery options.

  169. Len Parker says:

I read the comments about Smartpost (or Dumbpost) consolidated shipping and now know why Circuit City went under. Coldwater Creek shipped a package which arrived at the Grove City, Oh center on March 26 @ 1:45 Am and departed @ 8 Am for north central Florida. Today is April 4 and the package has yet to appear. I agree with the good folks who will no longer buy from any outfit using this (service?).
I predict that the idiot who dreamed up this idea will get a huge bonus and severance package just prior to his company going under. Don\’t feel bad because they company will qualify for bailout funds and have a huge party in Las Vegas or Atlantic City.

  170. Len Parker says:

An addendum to my comment #169 above. I e-mailed Coldwater Creek just after posting those comments on 4/4 and received a reply today (4/5) saying that the package must have been lost and they will send a replacement at no charge via REAL 2 day FedEx. My apologies to those folks who seem intelligent enough to drop that stupid service and save much bad will.

  171. MotherMayhem2x says:

I was looking something up in google for fedex smartpost and found this page. I noticed when reading through these comments that some of these people noted that they had never even used smartpost, yet are complaining about it. I clicked on one of these and it took me to that person\’s own shipping website! So to anyone who is on here trying to decide whether or not to use a business based on user reviews, BEWARE of shady stuff like this. As for what I personally know about smartpost, they\’re a start-up company. You have to allow time for any start-up company to work out any kinks. Also, you have to wonder whose fault it REALLY is when Amazon tells you they shipped it USPS but it was really shipped smartpost, or if Circuit City went out of business, then obviously there\’s something going on with those companies too. I am not defending anybody but my point is just that you need to know exactly what happened and not just point fingers. Just because you had a bad day doesn\’t mean you need to blame somebody and try to get them to go out of business. People who read all these negative reviews BEWARE because you never hear any GOOD news about ANYTHING!

  172. John Paul says:

My package was shipped on 4/9 via SmartPost and its now the 15th and apparently its taken 3-4 days to get from Pottstown (30-40 mins from Philly) to Philadelphia. Now, its taken an additional day for Fedex to give it to USPS?? Do yourself a favor – buck up the 8.95 for USPS Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes

  173. Jillian says:

My husband worked at a FedEx Smartpost location for several months and said that the facility and its employees had no respect whatsoever for the packages that were processed at their location. Fed Ex employees would actually throw packages several feet in the air or pack larger heavy boxes on top of smaller ones even when the boxes were designated as having fragile or breakable items in them. We will never use the FexEd Smartpost service for our own packages.

  174. Rafael says:

Wow, I wish I found out about this FedEx Smartpost before ordering my product online. It has been two weeks and my estimated arrival date has changed twice. I was charged 29.96 for shipping and handling on a package that has a weight of 3.1 lbs and I am going on the third week without a product. I will never, ever use FedEx ever again. I will stick with UPS or USPS. I will ensure that no one in my family also ever uses FedEx nor any friends of ours.

  175. Mark Frederick says:

you know why Fed Ex Smart Post sucks so bad…well as a former worker there, i will tell you why. They run the hell out of the people and run the converyors fast and the people who unload the trucks are made to unload the trucks at warp speed onto the conveyors…while the people on the floors who stack the packages on the pallets have are expected to look at letter and number codes with super fast eyes…and are still expected to not get mis-sorts….and we were expected to be able to stack packagesd of various weights and sizes without them falling and shirink wrap them to along with the conveyors moving relentlessly…instead of modifying their processes, they keep firing temporary personnell and ruining their job referances and their standing with the personnel agencies. The turnover rate in the company is high..they treat the people like me who worked for the temporaty personell agencies like crap. I worked unloading trucks which were hot inside in the summer and cold in the winter….the trailers have leak and water gets into them…so in the winter, the packaged on in contact with the floors of the trailors are froze to the floor and get wet and damaged…in the summer, these packages get wet. I sweated in the trailers and to top things off…i was harassed by a supervisor because of a vendetta against me and i had this supervisor question my hygiene while practically laughing in my face…and when i politely told him that his games were a violation of my rights…he turned around and called my personnell service..and i guess he must have been really talking in pictures to them…because the woman who called me from the temporary service never even met me and she belittled me and made real nasty remarks about soap and water…this was done to me at the whim of a Fed Ex Supersisor named Mark at the leetsdale plant and it was done without the knowlege of the head bosses there….my name was slandered and my reputation with the personnel service was ruined by the jerk because thanks to Mark calling the personnel service and slandering my name behind my back, the personnel service has an ugly picture of me as a guy who never takes a bath and reaks (which is far from the truth because i have friends and relatives who know me). To top it all off, an incident took place that led to my termination was concerning unauthorized tool (ridged steak knives brought in by other employees to cut cardboard instead of the utility knives that people are supposed to get from the office) i had another worker sneakily threaten me with one of these knives…i refused to use these knives because they were against policy to be brought in the place, but there is no security guy at the doors when its not peak season…anyway…i felt threatened and got spooked, so i panicked and lost the job for punching the guy….and believe me, it aint hard for anyone to descretely threaten some one else with a sharp object while people are not looking…maybe i did hit the guy .. but how do i know i wouldnt have got stabbed in the back by sone guy with issues outside the workplace and wanting to take his rage out on someone…and i suppose that was my fault because i should have ran from him and told a supervisor and had him removed from there….but there you have it.

I ordered two different times off the web site woot! Both times I was not allowed to ship to my post office box, needed physical address. So I shipped to my home (even though I don\’t have a mailbox) because it was FedEx and I was sure that my item would be brought to my door. Now it has been 14 days and come to find out that my item has been handed off to the post-office to deliver. Remember that I don\’t have a mailbox and the USPS can\’t deliver to my home because I have a PO Box. Why can\’t I use a post office box in the first place. What a disaster. Smart-post was set up by a dumbshit!!!

  177. J. ESCADA says:

According to Beverly Smith who handles Executive Complaints, Fred Smith came up with the idea of SmartPost. I can not believe that Fred Smith would come up with such a sham of an idea as SmartPost! From here on out I will check to determine if a company is using FedEx\’s SmartPost as a shipping method – if they are they will not get my business… if they are a monopoly I will just do without that product! What Fred Smith fails to realize is, is without absolute accountability customers are going to go to the competitors; this is a sad state of affairs that a company would resort to this madness to make a couple of cents near-term while not realizing the damage its going to do long-term!

  178. Mark Frederick says:

My advice to anyone who is unemployed and have to take a lesser job. If any agency wants to send you to Fed Ex Smart Post. I would say that you should tough it out and wait for an opportunity elsewhere. You may do ok at Fed Ex Smart post for a while but that wont last and you be one of the many who will get their reputations damaged and it dont take much to give them an excuse. (sarcastic sigh) Aint it a shame that we have such a free country where employers like Fed Ex Smart Post have the right to use the internet as a tool to blackmark people and violate peoples constitutional rights while using the wonders of modern technology to harm a persons ability to aquire any other job. (sarcastic sigh)Aint it a shame that people like me and a handful of friends who used to work in this facility have the equal right to speak out like i am doing now. (Sarcastic sigh) However it seems these people who sit behind desks at places like this still abuse their power and get away with it but in the long run, the inevitable failure of this company will be their own doing due to their massive turnover rate and leaky trucks, wet packages and an overall inadaquate operation. Its raining right now and i guarantee you that their trailors trucks will be leaking and they will have more wet packages.

FedEx Smart Post is a stupid idea. I don\’t know why the hell that service is still around.
Is there anyway to s hut it down for good?

  180. Tyler says:

I HATE SMARTPOST!!! I had a pair of shoes shipped to me via smartpost from footlocker. Shoes took nine days to reach my city of Amarillo, Tx. Shoes were then transferred to USPS for delivery. USPS said my address was incorrect(it was the correct address) Contacted fedex, they transferred me to their smartpost dept, smartpost dept was unavailable. Called USPS, item was returned to sender. Finally had to call footlocker and chewed them out and had a new pair shipped UPS(thank God) 3 day guaranteed service for free. I wish I would have read this article before I bought those shoes, it would have saved a big headache.

  181. Caleb says:

To reply to the poster of comments 175 and 178: I worked at FedEx SmartPost for a year and a half, after previously working about a year and a half at FedEx Ground. The work involved at Ground was at least 10x harder than the work involved at SmartPost. I am not saying SmartPost was easy, but for a lazy individual simply looking for a paycheck (like yourself), this isn\’t the place. From what I have seen in the shipping industry, there isn\’t really an easy job to be had anywhere. You might say your supervisor had it easy, but I know for a fact that it isn\’t. I wasn\’t a supervisor, but did get promoted to team lead after about 2 weeks on the job. I think the main reason I received a promotion was because I was used to getting my balls busted at Ground for so long. Coming to a place like SmartPost where it was a little slower paced and smaller packages made me a standout employee that could get the job done in half the time as most of the other workers, especially workers from the temp agency that we used to get employees. These were some of the laziest individuals I have ever seen. A little hard work can go a long way, and obviously you didn\’t do much work if your supervisor \’singled you out\’ and didn\’t give you any praise…

Which brings me to my next point, I will not bash the service (because I have not shipped through it) or the organization (becuase I have respect for it), but I will say that the area where they can really improve is the workforce. They need to get people in there who care about what they are doing and not just a bunch of temps who are simply showing up.
For all of you who are bashing and cursing the service, try and work at a shipping facility for a month during Christmas peak and then come back to the forums and share your experience.
In conclusion, I don\’t think SmartPost is the worst idea ever, it just needs a pretty big overhaul in order to gain its reputation back and some business that might have been lost in the recent years.

I\’ve read most of the comments (and there are so many!) and I understand that ymmv depending on which reps you talk to and which sortation centers are used, etc. The more times a package changes hands, the higher your chances of things going wrong, and the harder it is to find accountability. I order with Amazon fairly regularly and I\’ve always loved their Super Saver shipping option when I haven\’t been in too much of a hurry. However, I *do* expect the package to arrive within the estimated time, and I *do* expect to be able to track the package to a reasonable degree, even if that means seeing it re-routed across the country and back or falling off the truck at one center or another. Whatever the case, I just either want my refund or a new delivery, pronto.

    [rant]
My latest order supposedly was *delivered* a few days ago at the very last day of the estimated time frame, yet I found nothing in our mail room, despite other packages being present. I had to wonder if someone in my building just randomly snatched mine (there were other Amazon-stamped boxes there, nothing special about mine), or if there was a snafu in delivery. I have had at least one other delivery through SmartPost and didn\’t previously have any issue, but it seems that when there *is* an issue, it\’s very difficult to clear up. I called Amazon and for the first time ever I was disappointed in their customer service: the rep said that the USPS doesn\’t provide them with detailed tracking info, and despite Amazon\’s tracking site saying my package has been \”delivered,\” it could actually mean it has only been accepted by the local post office, and that I should wait another week for USPS to get it to me (despite the local P.O. being 3 blocks away — I\’d gladly walk over there and pick it up if it\’s that much of a hassle for my local carrier) before calling for redelivery. Call me crazy, but when I see \”delivered\” in the tracking notes, I expect that the package has made it to my building — not that I\’m supposed to wait another week to start the redelivery process (and then have to wait through that shipping time frame, as well). I argue the point and the rep apologizes and advises me to check the FedEx site for their tracking info *and* the USPS for theirs, as well. To me, that\’s like Amazon admitting that their tracking system is not actually useful — not very impressive of them. I check the other sites: delivered and delivered, they both say. I call USPS myself on the next business day and they insist that the package was indeed delivered to the building (whether or not they\’re telling the truth, at this point I don\’t care — I simply don\’t have my stuff), so I call Amazon immediately, they apologize (and inform me that on regular business days the Amazon rep should have called USPS themself to check for me), and then they set up a 2-day redelivery using UPS instead. :p UPS to the rescue!
    [/rant]

Essentially, Amazon\’s Super Saver shipping option no longer seems like a neat deal when SmartPost is one of the variable options. If I want to save some money with free shipping, I now have to gamble with my purchase itself and hope it doesn\’t go through SmartPost. I\’m not willing to do that. And I\’m not happy about paying FedEx *or* USPS for their other shipping options. Faster shipping is one thing, but you shouldn\’t have to pay extra just to make sure your purchase actually reaches you. For large purchases I\’ll gladly pay the shipping (to UPS!), but Amazon may have lost most of their business with me — for my common smaller purchases I\’ll be looking for deals elsewhere.

  183. Fed-Up says:

SMART post??? Really? How smart is this? I ordered a package from a company that is just outside of Indianapolis, 130 miles south of me, all interstate miles. They sent the package via FedEx smart post. The package went to Belleville, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, 225 miles east of me. The package leaves there and travels RIGHT THROUGH MY TOWN, to New Berlin, Wisconsin which is 130 miles north of me!!! Now, eight days after it left the shipper, it is on it\’s way (alledgedly) to me after a lovely tour of the midwest. They should rename it FedEx Dumba$$ post! As for Roger in post #12, you sir, are a MORON! I\’ve been in the trucking industry for 15 years and I know plenty about logistics. I know if I treated any of my clients the way FedEx treats theirs, I would have been out of a job a long time ago! By the way, the other FedEx divisions aren\’t much better. Anytime I\’ve had something delivered by them, home delivery, ground, any of them, They can never find my house. The USPS, UPS, even DHL never had a problem delivering to me. I have resorted to putting \”DO NOT SHIP VIA FEDEX\” in the delivery comments on everything I order. This time it slipped by but never again. I will most definitely pay extra for shipping just to avoid FedEx!

  184. marc says:

\”smartPost\” I had no idea what it was when I orderd from tilly\’s I figurd it was just the same old Fedex I have trusted for years when I tracked it a week later and saw it was handed over to USPS I was mortified. try and file a complaint against any one at USPS and see how far you get its a big joke! save your self the week, month or loss of package and spend the extra $1.50-$5 and go with any thing fedex thats not SmartPost.

  185. Pissed-off Purchaser says:

I bought something which unfortunately was shipped via this option. But surprisingly, it shipped quickly…. or so I thought. So I went to my building\’s mailroom to pick it up, but it was not there. Where is it? No one knows. And the mailroom only received 5 packages that day, mine was not there. Days later, it still has not arrived. So now, I have to make sure that I am not charged for an expensive order that I didn\’t receive. Ugh. Good job Smart Post!

  186. Geoff says:

Fed-ex smart post is very slow, and does some odd things. I bought a few t-shirts online, they shipped via fed ex on October 13 from Kansas City going to the Phoenix area. The package arrived in Dallas on October 15th, and arrived in Denver on Ocotber 18th. Only to be shipped back to Dallas on October 21. The item finally arrived in Phoenix today, and will take another 2 days to get here probably. 12-13 days seems to be a pretty long period of time to ship something. Nevermind the fact it\’s called smartpost and the service redundantly ships the package back and forth between two cities.

  187. Nobel Gustov says:

I have two packages from different venders both coming Smartpost. Both of them keep going leaving Kansas City and then a couple of day coming back into Kansas City. I called Fedex and they say it is the Post office. The post Office says they know nothing about it. Fedex Smartpost is DUMB. I am wandering if I will ever see the packages.

I cannot understand why any company that ships would use smartpost.
It takes longer than you could possibly imagine, and it is nearly impossible
to track. I would gladly pay a few extra $ (if it is even that much) to go
via UPS or USPS Priority Mail. Sorry Fedex, but the
\”absolutely positively has to be there..\” may still ring true,
but the question is where is \”there\”?
USPS Priority mail is much faster, and UPS has the best tracking anywhere. Fedex you just don\’t rate.

  189. Jason Carpenter says:

Wow…glad to see that at least I\’m not alone here!

I\’m currently waiting for a simple exchange from a company right now and have watched my FedEx SmartPost delivery date change twice. I\’m in the midwest and I\’ve watched my package go from Ohio to Pottstown, PA (where it spent Dec. 9th – Dec. 15th and was listed as arriving and departing four times throughout the course of those days), and now it\’s in West Virginia? It\’s been nine days total, and they are getting pretty close to making a nice little circle within a tri-state area, but certainly not any closer to actually getting to me.

I think this blog/forum is more than enough evidence that this is a ridiculously poorly-run operation. I would like to suggest to everyone that you take a minute out of your day and (either instead of or in addition to writing your complaints here) write them up with the Better Business Bureau: http://www.bbb.org/wisconsin/business-reviews/not-elsewhere-classified/fedex-smartpost-in-new-berlin-wi-1000001352/ . Just click on the link to file a complaint and enjoy yourself, or write them a letter directly:

    FedEx SmartPost
    16555 West Rogers Drive
    New Berlin, WI 53151

Let\’s quit letting them get away with this kind of crap, and at least make them realize how much their piss poor service is irritating their dwindling customer base. Also, why not contact the company that decided to ship you something using SmartPost and give them a heads-up that they might not want to associate their business with such a shoddy shipping company.

    Good luck, fellow consumers!

  191. Jeff says:

Wow. What a complete failure. I have a package sitting 45 miles away for 3 days. Called Fedex to expedite it but apparently when its sent smartpost there is absolutely nothing they can do.

Why on earth would a package leave a fedex facility and then come back to the same facility? It defies all business logic.

Also, if it\’s sitting at their facility and they see its not getting delivered, why can\’t fedex pull it and just deliver it for me? Instead I get the run around saying that USPS \”probably\” has it. But as you can see the history has it in the FexEx Facility for the past 24 hours. Which according to the rep is not always updated.

Way to go, Fedex, you officially suck.

I should have just drove 10 minuets to my damn GNC store! The warehouse is in Arizona and I live in SD, so it should have only taken 4 days! My package came to LA in 2 days, I thought I would get it the next day since I am 1 county away…

WRONG!!! My package then shipped half way across the country where it has been sitting around for 5 days! I called FedEx 3 times, and GNC twice! GNC accused FedEx of putting my package on the wrong truck, and FedEx accused GNC of putting the wrong label on my package. FedEx said they put a flag on my package. I called them back today, 2 days after my estimated delivery date, and now they are saying they delivered it to USPS and it\’s out of their hands.

I just ordered something from Borders that said it would be shipped through the US Postal Service-which I love because I am in Hawaii and we love the USPS – they are very fast and affordable! We order online a lot and the USPS gets us our packages within 3-5 days and it is so much cheaper than UPS or FEDEx. But then when I received my confirmation email, is said it was coming FXSP, so in researching FXSP to see what it was, I found this site. Now I am worried that I won\’t receive my books in time for my book club meeting! I wish I had ordered through Amazon; they still use USPS to Hawaii!

Yes, Smartpost does indeed suck mightily. Ordered two new boxes of contact lenses. 15 days later the FEDEX tracking system said they had been delivered, but they couldn’t tell me who they had been delivered to. Post office (not the sharpest tools in the shed either) were adamant that they had not seen the shipment. Luckily Lens.com has agreed to re-send the shipment for free. We’ll see how that goes.

  198. FedEx_Employee says:

I’m an employee for FedEx SmartPost. Most of you can’t just blame SmartPost in general. I agree that it’s a backwards leap for production but it was created to help ease shipping hassles (that eventually hasn’t been working for some of you) & to also give more job opportunities for our economy. You all can’t just blame SmartPost for all of the faults of your late arriving packages. We do live in an imperfect world. It’s called weather. There’s times when we have to rush & there’s times when we have to wait hours at a time for shipment (from the truckers) to arrive. Some truckers love to take their time arriving to the warehouse & there’s truckers that have to face weather conditions. So, I wish that those of you who came on here bitching & complaining would stop judging the company & actually look in depth of why some of your packages don’t arrive or come late. Nobody’s perfect because there are truckers who take stops & steal packages. Think twice before you say something. At least FedEx was thinking of ways to help people escape part of the economy’s downfall.

      Mr. FedEx Employee,
You are a very biased and dishonest fellow. At least my local Fedex delivery man has the courage to admit that the company he works for has totally messed up, dropped the ball, given garbage service and even lost my smartpost deliveries numerous times. SmartPost is trash service.

FedEx Smartpost is a complete waste of time. I have had the misfortune to have had two shipments via this method. First one took 15 days from MA to AZ. Second one still in route. Left Milwaukee, WI went to Chicago,,,,then back to New Berlin, WI and is currently sitting in Phoenix,,,,,,,,,we think. Refuse to do business with sellers who use this poor excuse for shipping.

  200. Jessica says:

Smart Post is a terrible service. I would have rather spent a few extra dollars to have Fex Ex deliver the item to my door, then hand it over to the idiots at my post office. I ordered a package on 6/29. After a few weeks, I started wondering why I hadn’t received it, so I looked up the tracking number.. and it showed DELIVERED! I couldnt believe it. I called up Fed Ex to ask what happened, and they said it was handed to the post office for final delivery and that I would need to speak to them. So, I did. Well, it turns out the person at the post office tried to deliver my package, which had the correct address I might add, to the foreclosed vacant house next door!!! She marked it delivered first, then saw it was vacant, and never bothered to change the tracking information. She *thinks* she returned it to the sender. Yeah, ok. Honestly, I think she stole it. I contacted Woot to see if they received it back, but I don’t think they did. They haven’t emailed me or contacted me about an undeliverable package. We’ll see what they say. What really sucks is that I bought this stuff from Woot.com, and they don’t have an inventory. I just wish they would have used Fed EX for the entire delivery!! Smartpost makes it too east for people to steal packages because there are two shipping companies and no accountability. I just hope I can get my stuff, and I’ll be letting Woot know that if they intend to use Smartpost for shipping again, I will not be buying anything from them again.

  201. FedEx smartpost with USPS is very bad. I agree with the views above that the service should be avoided. Packages sit at their sites and go nowhere for days.

  202. Larry says:

    Hey FedEx_Employee,

SmartPost sucks, FedEx sucks for using SmartPost, and YOU suck with your lousy attitude toward customers. I remember way back when FedEx clawed its way to the top with its “Customer is always right” type of service. SmartPost does NOTHING to ease shipping hassles, so stop with your big lie. It’s all about money. I thought a package of mine was shipped Priority Mail this past Monday, and I would have had it on Wednesday or yesterday at the latest. So today it finally shows up in the tracking as SmartPost with an expected delivery date of next Tuesday (?!?!?!). WTF is this crap?! I never had a problem receiving shipments on time before.

So FedEx_Employee, stop blaming the truckers and the weather for your non-existent service. It’s mid-summer here and we are on the verge of a drought (big word that means we have been low on rain, son). My package is sitting in a building 15 minutes away from me and the delivery date is 5 days away. I can’t even pick it up myself because your system is not set up for that. Go get a REAL job with a REAL company that actually wants to serve its customers instead of hiring a low-paid, sorry excuse for an employee like you to cover for them. Then after punching out for the day, you can go back home to Mommy and Daddy to play video games in their basement for the rest of the night. Some day you might finally grow up and join the real world, boy. Don’t try to lecture us on jobs and the economy. It’s painfully obvious that you are not one of the great economic minds of our time, nor do you have any appreciation for customer service. And did they ever teach you grammer in school?

  203. Chloe says:

This demon child of FedEx should definitely be axed if FedEx has any concern over its reputation. When I pre-ordered a CD on Amazon a month ago, I was told that my delivery would be here around 8/6-8/10. So that’s what i was thinking would be the time. When the CD was actually released and it was time to ship it out, the delivery estimate changed to 8/10. I wasn’t too thrilled about that, but I figured it might come early anyway because I’ve had many items come from Amazon (both direct and through the Marketplace) before the first range in the delivery estimate range since I joined in 2005. They send me my tracking info saying that it has been shipped via USPS. “OK”, I think,”it shouldn’t be that long.” WRONG!

First of all, I knew nothing about ShitPost so I was plugging the number into the USPS tracker system and was told they had no record. When Amazon’s page finally update the tracking, I saw that it originally left from Louisville, KY, Indianapolis, and the oh so infamous Grove City, OH FedEx ShitPost centers. So I plugged the info into the FedEx site and found out who was really shipping my item, along with a different delivery estimate of 8/11. Now 8/10 is almost over and I know I’m not receiving today or tomorrow as I called FedEx and they told me that delivery means delivery to the post office. From then on, their tracking stops and the Post Office takes over. Then you have to wake another X days. He also said that it is not a time sensitive shipping option so it could take anywhere from 1-11 shipping days to get a package. I’m sorry, but I thought when I was ordering my package that 3-5 business days was the standard? I also thought delivery meant delivery to your address, not to the Post Office! with FedEx ShitPost, everything you thought you ever knew about shipping is gone. Maybe if this was a CD that I could wait a couple of weeks for (although I’ve been told a week or less!) I wouldn’t care so much. The thing is that I’m seeing that same artist next Monday 8/16 and would like him to sign it at the meet and greet. With all the horror stories that I’m seeing, I don’t know if that is possible with the days constantly going by. Thanks to you, FedEx, I may just have to rip out a sheet of notebook paper, write the artist and album name on it, and say “sorry, I pre-ordered it, honestly I did, but FedEx and Post Office refuse to send it to me.” I may have to buy another copy at the show, which is redundant when I already have one on the way, but who knows anymore!

oh yeah, I ordered a textbook for class last night from textbooks.com. They shipped it today and I should expect it on 8/12. The tracking has already been update 3x today. Guess who it was? UPS! It would be a shame if all my books, even the ones from USPS, come before the CD which was shipped a week ago!!!

Has anyone had ANY luck going to the Post Office to try and retrieve your package. I’m tempted to do that if it ever gets there. Apparently, it takes a day for a 0.3lb package to go to the other side of town.

Unfortunately, I have 2 parcels coming now through SmartPost. At first I thought that it would be a normal FedEx service, but Estimated Delivery Dates made me wonder and search for ‘SmartPost’ on Google and it got me here. I see it was establish back in 2006 or whatever and some people were saying how company is still new and eventually it will get better, but it’s 2010 now and hey, how come we are still on the same spot? I’m tracking my shipments now and look:

Aug 11, 2010 5:19 AM Departed FedEx location FEDEX SMARTPOST DALLAS, TX
Aug 12, 2010 2:11 PM Arrived at FedEx location FEDEX SMARTPOST HOUSTON, TX

Took them 33 hours to get from Dallas to Houston. How is that possible? Now, I’m only 3 hours away from Houston and according to Estimated Delivery Dates, it will get here after 6 more days! What in a world could be worse than this? I don’t know much how logistics work, but I do know that something is not right here, so as a customer I will try to avoid SmartPost in any way I can. Wouldn’t buy from that retailer again..

  206. Steve. says:

Smartpost is a non-time sensitive, non-date guaranteed service. It always has been and always will be. Typical delivery is within 5-10 business days (1-2 weeks), but can take longer.

While many people here are disappointed with this service, most of you have only yourselves to blame. You want it fast and you want is to cost little to free to get it fast. Unfortunately, in e-commerce, it just doesn’t work that way. Shipping rates have gone through the roof by all carriers. Typical rates go up 5-6% per year. A 2-3 pound UPS Ground/FedEx Ground box costs nearly $8 to ship across the country to a business, $10 to a residence, and $13 to a rural residence. I’m doubt most of you are paying the actual shipping rates incurred by the retailers as most generally subsidize a portion, or in the case of free shipping, all of it.

With shipping rates going up and up year after year, the e-commerce companies have little choice but to either use slower shipping methods, or charge higher shipping costs, as their costs are increasing. Most companies give you choice of shipping methods, however, most complaining here likely chose the less expensive option and unrealistically expected more. If you need it in a set period of time, then pay for a faster guaranteed Ground or Express service.

FedEx Smartpost was designed to offer a less expensive shipping option by utilizing USPS for last mile delivery and avoiding delivery surcharges. USPS can do this profitably because they serve all addresses every day, so FedEx is charged very little since it is just another box on the USPS delivery vehicle. Now, if FedEx comes out to deliver it, they have to make a trip all the way just for you. Are you a residence? FedEx (and UPS) would charge an additional $2.40. Rural? That’s another $2.50-$2.75. This means that if you are a rural residence, the retailer would incur another $5 on top of the normal shipping costs. They simply cannot absorb that kind of charge, and chances are, if you saw a $10-$12 shipping charge to ship a 2-3 pound item, you would close the webpage and go elsewhere. Since retailers and FedEx know this, FedEx created Smartpost. Smartpost avoids all these additional surcharges and in many cases has a lower base rate than Ground would by using USPS for delivery – but it is slower.

For the record, before DHL ceased domestic operations in the US, they pioneered the program known as DHL@Home, which was run the same as FedEx SmartPost. Currently, UPS has it too, and actually two versions: UPS Mail Innovations – the same as SmartPost, and UPS Basic which is a slower no frills ground service delivered by UPS in normal areas, and by USPS in the rural areas.

In the future, research the shipping options offered on the website you are buying from, and choose accordingly. Most sites offer faster methods of shipping. If you need it faster, then pay for that faster service – just don’t expect the retailer to.

PS – On a side note, I should mention that the complaints here are not indicative of the service in general. FedEx delivers 8 million packages on any normal day (forget about November and December which is much higher). No shipping company can hit 100% satisfaction – its impossible. For example, Even if Fedex goofed 1 package per 1000 – which would be a 99.999% on time rate – that would still be 8,000 problems per day – or nearly 3 million per year. This page is nearly 4 years old and has only around 200 posts. I’d expect quite a bit more if the service was so bad. Many here just had unrealistic expectations, or got unlucky.

  207. Ace says:

Hmmmm…. Seems like I’m going to be in the same boat. Just ordered online only to find out my 8.99 shipping goes through SmartPost. Location of Origin is 1hr from my location. Estimated shipping date is 4 days. Not too happy about this. I asked wheres the location of this item, I was told Berlin,WI. I quickly googled its distance to find out its only one hour, so I should have it by next day after departure or two days MAX. unfortunately it takes four days after departure. Im dissapointed.

  208. Rapunzzel says:

Well, sure *sounds* like SmartPost is a piece of crap. In my own personal case, we shall see. Estimated arrival time 8/10, although I can see by the tracking that my package “left” my hometown’s SmartPost center this morning at 5 something a.m. I don’t know why it would take two days to get to me beyond that point, but I guess we shall see!

I have to laugh though, because as I could originally see all of the places and cities my package was arriving at and departing from, now the website (both Amazon, who I ordered from, and FedEx) only say it departed from the “U.S.” and then skips a few days until it arrived in my city. HA. Yeah, so they don’t want me to know just how much runaround my package is going to handle before it’s in my hands…but heck, it just better get here, ’cause it cost me a pretty penny. RAR

  209. Rapunzzel says:

Oh, and I have to agree with the person who commented about SmartPost being better by 2010. How long does FedEx need to get this “sorted” out? Seriously. At the very least, I would imagine building a few more “sortation centers” might help…I don’t know.

Oh, and the SmartPost in my town is 20 minutes away. *shakesfistintheairforpossiblefutureletdowns*

  210. Craig says:

My order from AMAZON.com which was ordered on 8/28/2010 has been sitting at the New Berlin Wisconsin FEXEX SMARTPOST Center since 9/02/2010. I called them yesterday 9/08/2010 and was told that my package was not there and I needed to contact AMAZON. I called back today 9/09/2010 and was told that the package shows that it has not moved from their FEDEX facility in New Berlin. I am now waiting for a call from them to find out what the deal is with my package. I notified AMAZON and was sent an email listing all of the different carriers they use to ship their packages. I sent AMAZON a response telling them that I like the free shipping but if I am not going to receive my orders, why should I order from them?????? I really don’t care to drive down the street and throw my money out the window, why would I want to order things I won’t receive….The businesses in this country can’t afford to lose customers in such bad times!!!!! They need to stay focused and not send messages to their customers that sound like they are coming from a Government office. Amazon has always been very good in the past using USPS, UPS and regular FEDEX which I have had no problem with. Why jeopardize your customer base by lowering your quality standards. It is not good business sense.

  211. Joe Consumer says:

@ FedEx_Employee: Ok, if you know the truckers are the cause of all of your incompetency, why are you still using them? Seems to me a professional service would make changes to ensure that their public image remains positive. Oh, that’s right. There are limited choices in this arena for the consumer, so you don’t have to worry about that? I see.
11 days from Fedex receiving the package(5 lb, medium box) in Ca. for it to be dropped off in Al.(Out for delivery the next day by USPS). Seems like that’s YOUR trucks that are lagging there. That cost me $8.99 from Harbor Freight. I won’t buy online from them ever again because they use this sorry excuse of a shipping service from Fedex. I’ve gotten 1st class ‘packages’ from Ca. in 3 days with the USPS.
Again @FedEx_Employee: By reading through these posts, it looks to me as though Fedex’s SmartPost is costing people jobs. There are a lot of people, just on this site, who will never use a company again because of Fedex’s SmartPost. Less orders = less people having to make/supply the merchandise. Thanks Fedex, for this great dis-service to the consumer. You’ve had time to get this right & haven’t bothered to do so.

  212. Yet Another Person says:

I have been fortunate I guess, but this is the first time (of which I am aware) that I am receiving an item via FedEx SmartPost from a retailer (Beach Camera). The funny thing is I paid extra for this option versus the free shipping so that I would be sure to get it quicker as I needed the product sooner, before I left for my trip. Nowhere on the site did it note FedEx SmartPost, only an expected 2-3 days for delivery for a 1.5 lb package (yes you read that right, a one and a half pound package). I had incorrectly assumed that meant USPS priority mail. Of course, that was a week ago and I am still waiting…

I have never ordered from Beach Camera before but when I use Amazon and the free shipping option, I usually get items within 2-3 days. I am never again paying extra for shipping without knowing what service is being used in advance and if I can avoid it, never using FedEx SmartPost! I am clueless as to the purpose of FedEx SmartPost or similar service, as when I have sent or received items even via USPS, UPS ground or FedEx ground, I have always received items sooner than this and it cost less!

  213. Larry says:

    Hey Steve,

I can see you are another moronic employee of Fedex and/or ShitPost who has no idea what the term “Customer Service” means. Please stop your rationalizations of why you guys operate as if you are in a Third World country without any kind of reliable delivery service. Your comparisons to DHL are laughable — I recall DHL packages being delivered quickly to my home at very low cost. My DHL shipments NEVER sat in a warehouse for days or weeks at a time waiting to go out. I should at least be able to go to your shipping center and retrieve a package myself but NNNOOOOOOO, you people are too stupid to handle that kind of transaction. So instead of being able to drive 15 minutes and pick up the item, I have to wait another week or two because you can’t get your act together?!?!?!? As I said to your fellow employee earlier in this thread, ShitPost sucks, FedEx sucks for using ShitPost, and YOU suck with your lousy attitude toward customers. Don’t lecture me or anyone else in this thread about the economics of shipping and how companies need to stay in business, since you obviously know nothing about those subjects. No wonder our jobs are going to unskilled laborers in undeveloped countries when there are enough people in the U.S. just like you who strive to perform DOWN to their level.

  214. TheFu says:

I like “free shipping.” I’ve been using it for years with a major online retailer and generally been happy with the service. I usually purchase items every few months and track the packages. UPS and FedEx tracking works. It is predictable. That is what everyone likes. I’ve had a few packages lost and the retailer always corrected the issue – a little inconvenient, but they didn’t hide from the responsibility.

USPS tracking is a joke. Items are tagged with tracking data at the source, but that data doesn’t show up inside USPS online systems for DAYS AND DAYS. I’ve had some items tracked that didn’t show up until they were delivered. “Delivered” is the key word – we like that word.

For the first time, 3 recent packages have been shipped via “FedEx SmartPost.” I’d never seen that service before – when I saw “FedEx” in the name, I relaxed – those guys know what they are doing after all. It took a few days for the tracking information to make it into an online tracking system from when the retailer send a notification of shipping email. All 3 packages are in the same “SmartPost” facility on the other end of town (45 min away), but that doesn’t matter. It will be interesting to see when each package arrives … today or next week or never.

Customers like predictability. SmartPost doesn’t provide it.

Ordered birthday presents for my daughters 11th birthday party. Checked tracking and was told fed ex was notified of pick up on Sept 10th but did not pick up till the 13th where it remained for another day. My daughters party was on the 18th which I was sure I would have received by then because it really wasn’t shipping that far and estimated arrival time was showing the 17th. When I checked the tracking this past Saturday morning (the day of her party) the 18th of September I was disappointed to see that the estimated delivery date had been switched from September 17th to September 20th. I put a small note in her card saying that mommy’s present will be here on Monday and that I was really sorry. She was very disappointed but woke up this morning excited to know her present would be her today when she arrived home from school. Well, I just checked the tracking and even though the package is only an hour away the estimated arrival time (again for the third time) has been changed to September 21st. So now I have to tell my daughter who I’m sure is very excited at school that her package is coming today that it may be coming tomorrow even thought that is probably not true I feel like I have been lying to her for days and I am sick of disappointing her over and over again. I will never never use this form of shipping again!!!!

Oct 14, 2010 12:00 AM – Shipment information sent to U.S. Postal Service
Oct 14, 2010 2:57 AM – Shipment information sent to FedEx

    Yo Steve from ShitPost,
I thought you’d like to know that I recently bought a flat-screen TV from Buy.com with FREE shipping. It was NOT sent through ShitPost and guess what? It was at my door TWO (2) DAYS after I ordered it. So you know where you can stuff all of your idiot talk about having to give up fast, reliable service in exchange for free shipping. Higher shipping costs… dishonest or lazy truckers… unrealistic expectations… blah Blah BLAHHHHH… your words mean nothing here Steve because you KNOW nothing. In other words, you are a typical ShitPost employee who seriously needs training in the importance of getting it right for the customer EVERY TIME without stupid rationalizations for dishing out poor service. And a lesson in respect for customers would be good investment as well, if only it wasn’t wasted on clueless, brain-dead individuals like yourself.

  218. Larry says:

    Traci,
I sympathize with your frustration and hope you received shipment of your item by now. But for your daughter’s sake, please be honest with her in the future. I remember my parents telling me when something didn’t arrive when expected, “You’ll get it when you get and don’t ask again!” Sorry to be blunt… grow a pair and stop letting your kid make you feel as if you failed her when the situation is out of your control. She’ll respect you more when you tell her the truth and you refrain from setting her up for repeated disappointments. Which one of you is the parent again? Set a good example, find yourself a spine, quit the lying. This is part of her life’s lesson that things do not always go smoothly.

  219. J. C. Jones says:

I finally figured out what’s going on with SmartPost. Basically, you need to blame two entities: (1) The merchant, which is Amazon in my case, for not telling you up front that you are abou tto take a walk down poo poo lane with SmartPost, and (2) The United States Postal Service, for being as incompetent as they usually are. You can also blame (3) FedEx a small bit. Basically FedEx likes SmartPost ebcause it allows them to ship to places that they normally could not, like military base APO. Amazon does not want to tell you up front that your package is up crap creek if you use SmartPost. And finally, the USPS, being incompetent, leaves the packages at a distribution center in the final city once it arrives. If you have been waiting forever for a package, this is likely where it is: in a box, on a pallet, in a distribution center, waiting until someone there scans it at their convenience.

    • Lynne says:

The blame rests with Fed Ex, I didn’t enter a contract with the postal service or I would probably have my package. I entered a contract with Fed Ex, I paid Fed Ex, the fact that they choose to sub contract service out is there problem. The bottom line is it is Fed Ex’s name on the shipping charges, nowhere does it say Fed Ex/USPS it says Fed EX smartpost. So, I expect Fed Ex to be responsible and they have shown a complete lack of responsibility. If I ran my business this way I wouldn’t be in business, Sorry I have your money but we passed it off on someone else, talk to them and see if they care! What kind of person runs a business that way and hopes to stay in business, Oh wait I know FED EX!

my package left the new berlin wisconsin smartpost hub on 10/26 at 6:47 pm central time and the hub is only 91 miles from me
yet it says it will deliver on 10/29
so i find it very stupid that it would take that long to move a box 91 miles

  221. I have been waiting for a package that was also shipped there and it is taking days to leave their facility. I have not received it yet and wondering if it will come at all. Hopefully Amazon will give me a refund if it doesn’t arrive…… Very sad excuse for Fedex and USPS, come on.

  222. Rick says:

The key here is that the idiot vendors (HP, I’m looking at you), sending the package SmartPost should have to tell you up front that when they say FedEx, they mean SmartPost. I placed two orders with these morons on the same day. Both were about the same size package. One went FedEx, the other SmartPost. No warning. If I knew enough about tracking numbers, I would have realized the difference. The kicker: USPS does not deliver to my address, only UPS and FedEx. And to make things fun, nobody called me to let me know I needed to pick up a package.

    • Lynne says:

I agree that vendors need to clarify that they use smartpost and as consumers we need to hold them equally responsible. Most of these retailers are not passing on cheaper rates, the bottom line it would be cheaper to mail package directly with the postal service and it would actually be faster. I have never had a package from the postal service take 2 weeks, but that seems to be the average time with smartpost if your lucky. Also because in my case I was led to believe it was Fed EX and they don’t deliver to PO boxes, I used my business’ physical location to find out it will be delivered by postal service who does not deliver to my physical location, so after a 2 week wait my package will probably be returned for not having a mailing address. The bottom line it is irresponsible of the merchants and pathetic for Fed Ex to use the weight of their name and lead people to believe they are getting Fed Ex service.

  223. Kimberly says:

for one fedex isn’t as bad as ppl say. i have to agree with roger the guy that said all he had to say to all ya’ll thats bashing fedex in the ground i love how they deliver and they’ve never messed my orders up i have always got my stuff the same day they say its coming. idk why ppl wanna talk like this and frankly dont jump the gun cuz he was right the mail man does have 5 days before they even have to deliver ur stuff. there is no reason for all this. u had a bad experience with a carrier we all have those moments at times. use the number the girl left i bet ull find out everythings fine and it’ll be with u all soon!

I placed an order with Old Navy. It never arrived. I called Old Navy they told me it had been shipped Fed Ex smart post and Fed Ex says it was dropped at my post office 8 days prior. Old Navy told me to go to the post office and see if it was there. The post office says they see where Fed Ex said they dropped it off, but they never received it. This is a case of who lost it Fed Ex or the Post Office? Either way no party has any accountability. I have a post office box at my post office and have never not received a package before, so I would have to say I would lean more toward the error being on Fed Ex part. I called Old Navy back and they were wonderful. They are reshipping my lost order free of charge and are sending it expedited shipping also no charge.

  225. Amazed says:

I just had to make a comment. I can’t believe this thread goes back to 2006 & smartpost is still as stupid. I recently ordered on line (11/16). When I received the order confirmation it stated the carrier was smartpost-bd. I had never heard of it. And lucky me, my package is now lost. Every day I call the post office & they give me a different story, the bs run around. Our post office is run by morons(I’ve submitted complaints before – but of course to no avail). I DEFINITELY will not use smartpost again (as if I had a choice to begin with – I guess I need to check before I place an order). I just had to vent, since this has been an issue for so many years. I don’t think these companies care about service, they probably get enough business, it doesn’t matter.

  226. SP Employee says:

I just sat here reading through all of the negativity , and the small portion of positive feed back regarding the Smart Post service. Being an employee of Smart Post , I would like to explain a few key points (some were pointed out by other “employees”, some were not .)
    1) if you need your package FAST – don’t risk choosing Sp (if the company actually informs you it will be SP instead of just saying FedEx)
Smart Post is not a guaranteed service , unlike Fedex express or Fedex ground, it is not day definite nor time definite . Most packages do get rec’d within 2-8 business days , but thats not a guarantee. The “estimated in-home date” you see when tracking- is just that – an estimate , based upon research of other items shipped to that area from the oirgin area. ps. – if you seen a “tendered to usps” scan when tracking on fedex.com – that doesn’t mean it’s at your post offc – it means we sent electronic notification that the pkg is in transit to the post office . at this point you should be able to track on usps.com as well (if your number starts with 9102 or 02)”arrived at USPS” – that means its actually at your post offc :)
    2) SP is shipper friendly, and not always consumer friendly (though we try to be!) . The person you ordered the product from, is the SP customer . You may have paid for shipping (which shouldn’t have been much) , but they pay us for the service – that’s why when you call us about a pkg that you haven’t rec’d you may get referred to your shipper.
    3) If you are ordering for a special occasion and the company you are using ships with us , don’t wait until the last minute to order the item and then get mad if it doesn’t arrive on time . and as a FYI – For Christmas the shipper has to have orders sent to us by Dec 15th to be del before Christmas (within the continental US). Keep in mind, many websites say to allow 2-3 weeks for shipping , keep that in mind when ordering.

I apologize if shippers aren’t making it clear that they use SP, because I feel they should , not because it’s a crappy service – but it is a SLOW service for some. Sometimes they take longer to reach you because the shipper had the wrong zip code on the label, it had to be relabeled . and Just so ya know – pkgs DO get sorted daily – as long as they arrive at the hub before 2000 (8 pm), but they do not sort on holidays and do not transport out on weekends (scans are made when truck is loaded ). And remember, Holidays and weather can affect deliveries . it may be beautiful weather where you are, but when these trucks travel cross country, they are bound to run into all different sorts of weather . (there are only 25 sp hubs, so thats why it may seem as if it’s going away from you instead of toward you- they load the palletts on the truck, and there may be 1000 going to someplace say 200 miles east , and just 400 going to you- say 1000 miles west … they will del the ones closest first, and go back through the hubs to you – and sometimes it has to go to a BMC (bulk mail center) for sorting before your local post offc (which may cause a delay as well)
    4) Sp ONLY delivers to mailing addresses – so use your P.O. Box if you have one – and if the pkg is too big for your mailbox, it will be left at the post offc, which they will not redeliver , unless you call them .So you may have to pick this item up … Speaking of, something I wish would be clarified to everyone who rec’s items this method – Your tracking number … If you ever have to call the post office about the pkg , refer to it as a “delivery confirmation” Otherwise, they will tell you they have no idea what you are talking about .

Oh yeah, and those who I’ve seen talking about their wii’s and other pricey items . .. When shippers contract with us, we do adv them that this service is meant to be used for shipping low cost items , and we strongly suggest they dont ship anything that’s valued over $100 using smart post, because it’s not guaranteed, unlike other fedex services . Obviously, some of them don’t follow that advice though. For those who want to know for sure how their pkg is coming (some sites who use us say they ship fed ex, standard mail, and some actually say SP) most e-tailers have a customer service number, call and ask them what method they use to ship.
Despite the negativity – this service is great for most , and a few have issues (yes, i call this a few, when you think of the millions who rec pkgs through us ) , but unfortunately nothing/noone is perfect…
(side note) – I bet the soldiers we deliver for at APO/FPO’s aren’t complaining that their pkgs took well over a mth to be rec’d because they came this way- they are happy there was someone willing to deliver it to them :) And they take that long because they have to travel by boat , just as an fyi .

    • Lee says:

Uh, when it comes to shipping, slow IS crappy. “It’ll get there when it gets there…get over it” is a completely unacceptable attitude toward delivery service. You perception of SmartPost and how we should be accepting of its’ shortcomings is part of the problem, not a solution.

    • Dude says:

regardless of the value of the item, what good is a service if it isn’t reliable? despite them being separate corporate entities, why should one FedEx service be more reliable than another? When putting the FedEx brand on a service aren’t they creating an expectation for the same level of quality of service as the other services? Remember when DHL (formerly Airborne Express) fell back on this delivery method? Where are they now?

And as far as nothing being perfect, yeah, I worked at FedEx in Orlando and was working on seniority only after 2 weeks of employment. Seriously, I’ve never seen so much stuff destroyed in such a short period of time, but it’s nice to look on the board and see that your location is the worst in the company with numbers that if made public would likely result in a boycott, yet no one seems to care.

    • David Hamilton says:

Soldiers at APOs/FPOs ARE complaining about your service. Smartpost sucks for APO whether it’s FedEx or their competitors. Packages quickly rush to New Jersey only to be put on a slow boat because Smartpost ships everything via USPS as a ground shipment. So, it gets to the APO very quickly, but takes an additional 4-6 weeks because it’s on a boat.

I’ve started putting in the ‘comments’ box for every order I place that Smartpost is NOT acceptable and any packages shipped that way will be refused. I’m still suffering from my latest Smartpost hassle (Christmas present ordered Nov 2nd hasn’t arrived by Christmas), but Never again.

  227. Paul says:

To Steve, who likes to defend Fedex Smartpost by saying if 1 out of 1000 packages gets lost that’s a 99.999% on time rate:

That explains why Fedex SP service sucks so bad. They can’t do simple math.

  228. Polly says:

My dad bought me a TV for my birthday on November 22nd. It’s nearly xmas now and I still haven’t gotten it. My TV traveled from AZ, to Los Angeles, San Francisco, back to Los Angeles, then somehow ended up in WV and it’s still not here. I mean really, how do you expect to deliver packages with such an erratic route? Get a clue, Fedex Smarpost! Shut down this service and save yourself the bad PR!

  229. Cory says:

Our SmartPost package was supposedly delivered to our local post office and yet they claim it never arrived. Fedex claims the problem is the post office and the post office says it’s Fedex. The package was shipped on Nov. 30 and now it’s Dec. 15th with the item we ordered as a Christmas present nowhere to be found.

Luckily, the online store was willing to reship a new item at no charge; but this isn’t the only SmartPost package that has gone missing for them and they will no longer use it. Be warned.

  230. Janelle Walker says:

Yep, same boat as everyone else here. I ordered makeup from Lancome on CyberMonday because it offered 20 percent off and free shipping, had a week or so of the product left, and the website said it would take 5-7 days. Would have ordered that day anyway because I was getting close to being out. Didn’t know anything about this SmartPost thing to think that it would be a problem. For days, no update on where the pckge, coming from NJ, might be or when it would get to Il. Finally, when it did update on the FedEx system, it was in MS. What?

here is what I have so far:

So now FedEx is telling me that I should get it on Saturday. Yesterday, it said today. Tuesday, I drove out to the mall and got samples from other companies because I ran out of the product I ordered and Lancome has lost me as a customer forever. But here is the thing: I work for the Chicago Sun-Times and the paper has this wonderful column called “The Fixer” who investigates scams against consumers and one of my friends frequently writes for that column. Talking to her today, too. Then will call a buddy who is the regional PR director for the USPS.

  231. Marti says:

Same deal. I ordered 4 sweaters from Old Navy on 12/5. They shipped on 12/8 via SmartPost– plenty of time to get from Ohio to West Virginia by Christmas (12 business days worth of time, in fact). I was wrong. Here’s my package’s journey, according to FedEx tracking:

December 18 – At US Postal Service Facility, Fairmont, WV
December 17 – Departed FedEx location, Leetsdale, PA
December 17 – Arrived at FedEx location, Leetsdale, PA
December 17 – Departed FedEx location, Grove City, OH
December 16 – Arrived at FedEx location, Grove City, OH
December 15 – Departed FedEx location, Leetsdale, PA
December 14 – Arrived at FedEx location, Leetsdale, PA
December 12 – Departed FedEx location, Grove City, OH
December 12 – Arrived at FedEx location, Grove City, OH
December 11 – Departed FedEx location, Leetsdale, PA
December 11 – Shipment information sent to US Postal Service
December 10 – Arrived at FedEx location, Leetsdale, PA
December 9 – Departed FedEx location, Grove City, OH
December 9 – Arrived at FedEx location, Grove City, OH
December 8 – Shipment information sent to FedEx

My packaged bounced between two cities seven times for no discernable reason, then arrived at my local post office. As of 12/22, it still hadn’t been delivered, so I contacted Old Navy and they said that the package had been lost. How the hell did something get lost between their truck and the Post Office? I’ve never had a problem with packages coming through USPS. Old Navy was willing to re-ship the items using two-day shipping, but the items were out of stock. Wonderful. I’ll certainly never be using FailEx ShitPost again.

    • Jim says:

Mine is just as bad! I live near New Orleans and the package is coming from Illinois, so every time they moved it, it was getting farther away. I had to break the news that Santa got hijacked by Fedex. Not a happy Christmas!.

  233. Larry says:

    Re: To “SP Employee” –

Dude, what planet are you living on? Do you think anyone who places an order with a supposedly reputable vendor is going to know their package will be shipped via ShitPost? I lost count of the number of times I asked sellers how they plan to ship my package and was given a silly answer like: “At the time your order is placed, we don’t know who will ship it. The shipping department makes that decision and you will be given a tracking number when the package goes out.” Of the hundreds of orders I placed through the years, NOT ONE VENDOR mentioned that ShitPost would be used until I called to ask why a package was taking so long to arrive, or why it was not showing up in tracking. FACT: If buyers were notified up that that ShitPost was involved in any way with their orders, you guys would be out of business practically overnight. With your horrible reputation and equally horrible attitude toward customers, no one in their right mind would trust you to carry their goods.

And here is MY side note to your side note:

SP Employee, you are a NO GOOD PIECE OF DOGSHIT for making that comment about our armed forces, and you may consider this a compliment. American soldiers deserve substantially better service than you provide. Saying they should be glad to get their packages from anyone, regardless of how long it takes for shipments to arrive, is shameful. Why don’t you join the Army, ask for deployment to the Middle East, and insist that you be the first person out in front whenever your platoon enters a life-threatening situation? I know that won’t happen because you are too much of a coward, choosing instead to insult our fighting men and woman who dedicate their lives to protecting your sorry pussy ass.

  234. Lizshannon says:

I myself haven’t had any trouble with SP besides my own patience levels. I think people fail to realize that even though you place your order that day doesnt mean they put in in fedex that day. Some companies have to process and package your product themselves which can take 2 or 3 days…
I order something from California Jan 3, it was actually put in the mail on Jan 6. It is not even a day behind despite the inclement weather in the southeastern states.
I order from Missouri Jan 5 and received my pack Jan 8.
I alaways recaive my orders within one week. So maybe it is the company you order from.

  235. A. Wise says:

I hate Smart post i just order 1 sidekick and a machine from Amazon.com it says it arrive in january 15, now we’re in the 17 and the things have been waiting for fedex like 5 days to delivery to my house. The worst service in the WORLD..
It’s not smart Its Slow Post.. They hide the true of their service IS not Smart Is S of Slow. Slowest service… Stupid service. Sucks service

I recommend standar shipping of USPS or UPS. I order from amazon.com 2 sim cutters from NY and it just arrive in like 2 days and i am in jacksonville…

Through SmartPost (or UPS SmartMail or the dead DHL smart…..something) it took 1 week if within a few states away (less than 1000 miles) if its from across the U.S. it tends to take just over a week (50% of my smartpost packages get thrown in circles so it takes 2 weeks) and some packages through Smartpost take 3+ weeks. FYI avoid it if you can but sometimes thrifty companies dont state that its “SMARTPOST” they state it as FEDEX (you would think oh GROUND goodie)

  239. Erin says:

    and then… it just vanished.
if you consider the package is suppose to travel from Orlando to Doral, its just ridiculous.
I asked amazon, and they said I have to wait till the 4th, despite the fact that the estimated arrival time was the 25th.
That is almost 3 weeks since I placed the order, and 18 days since the package was dispatched.
Un-Fu**ing believable. It takes almost the same time as the stuff I bought from Taiwan, and via national post.

  240. Cole McKinney says:

Worst possible delivery service!! S–L–O–W–!! Untrackable. In the future I will NOT knowingly buy from an organization that ships Smartpost. I thought that the first encounter with this ridiculously slow service was a fluke; the second time confirmed that it was not. The third time was when I didn’t realize how the merchandise was being shipped. It takes WEEKS, not days for merchandise to arrive. Awful service without any accountability.

  241. Melissa says:

To all the Fedex/SP employees that keep posting, a few things….
    1. Please stop repeating the fact that it is not a guaranteed service. We get it. Besides, if that’s the case, then they should not be giving specific delivery times.
    2. Yes, I know the delivery times are “estimates”, which I why I probably wouldn’t complain if it was a couple days late. But, when I’m given an original estimated delivery date of 1/31/11, and it then ends up changing to 2/2/11, then to 2/10/11, that’s a pretty big difference.
    3. Please stop telling us that it’s our fault for choosing the cheaper shipping option. According to the posts, most people (myself included) were NOT given a choice between different shipping methods.
    4. Please stop repeating that we need to understand that Smartpost takes up to 5-7 (or 5-8) business days…. If my order had arrived in 7 business days, I wouldn’t be here. Mine is going to take 13 business days, and that’s IF it actually arrives next week when the tracking info claims it will. And, yes, that is 13 BUSINESS DAYS, I know that weekends don’t count.
    5. Can someone explain to me why my package travelled from the Missouri location, to the Mississippi location, and as of this morning was sent BACK to the Missouri location? Instead of heading towards Louisiana, where I am?
    6. Oh, and when I contacted the customer service department of the vendor I ordered from, they called Smartpost (on 3-way, with me on the line) and were told that my shipment would be delivered within 24 hours. Smartpost is now telling me it will be at least 4 more business days. Not sure if this is incompetence, or flat-out lying.

I respect your right to defend and/or explain your company, but try to read the posts you are arguing against a little more closely. I keep seeing these same arguments pop up.

  242. Drs Foster and Smith uses this shitty service! says:

I am so frustrated right now. I ordered my aquatic product from Drs Foster and Smith on Friday Feb 4th early in the morning figuring “Hell they will get it boxed up and shipped out same day like they always do. It will have time to be moved all weekend and be here middle of the following week.” Boy was I wrong! I work for FedEx as a delivery driver and I know we move packages all weekend. But my freakin package sat at the sort facility for 4 days! It was coming from their facility in Wisconsin to Seattle WA. The delivery date has been moved 3 times now. It got to my “local smartpost facility” on the 11th at 6am but they decided to let it sit there until Monday the 14th apparently. So basically my item is going to be sitting 15mins away from my home for 3 days. Something that I really need for my $3,000 Saltwater Reef tank. I paid $9 for this “ground shipping” which I believe they should call it “molasses shipping!” I sell software I make on eBay as a hobby and I ship EVERYTHING USPS Priority. Cost me $5.90 with delivery confirmation and it gets ANYWHERE in 3 days max. I’ve shipped to Canada and I’ve shipped to Mexico with the same success. So I feel like I got ripped off by about $4 or $5 atleast! I paid $9 freakin dollars for shipping on a 1 pound box! And they can’t even deliver it in a decent amount of time! Needless to say I will NEVER order from Drs. Foster and Smith again. They charge a ridiculous amount for crappy shipping, don’t give a crap when I call them about it, and won’t offer any sort of refund. All they can say is “Well sir it has been only 6 business days.”

  243. Jimbo says:

I just was dealing with Amazon who now used FedEx Smart Post for their Super Saver shipping orders.

Seems everything is fine until Fed Ex delivers to the USPS, then my package just sat for a few days at my local post office before they did anything. VERY unprofessional the USPS with their tit for tat competitiveness and taking it out on the customer because a package says FedEx on the side.

  244. poor richard says:

My package was shipped 14 days ago Via fed ex smart post. It spent 6 days basking at the fed ex facility in Hutchins Texas before being sent to the wrong place. The tracking information now says it was misshipped. But they are going to correct the mistake and deliver it in a prompt and timely manner. Probably another 14 days. I have had at least three packages bask in the sorting facility in Hutchins Texas for more than 4 days.
You have two of the worst shipping companys involved so twice the chance of being delayed and lost. I think my package was both delayed and lost. What a joke. Before I buy anything else I am gonna make sure they do not used FED EX smartpost.

  245. poor richard says:

well, today is day 18 and I am still waiting for my fed ex smart post package to arrive. YOu can write fed ex all you want and complain all you want, they just send you a nice letter back telling you that you package was mis shipped but the error has been corrected ant it will arrive in a timely manner. Is 18 days a timely manner? MY package was shipped from 400 mile south of me in Texas, it has been to Texas, Oklahoma, right by the town I live in, all the way to Knasas city, then throught Missouri and arkansas to far eastern Oklahome then to Tulsa oklahome. who knows where it is now. 18 days and still no package. FED EX IS TERRIBLE.

    • Lori says:

I’m going through this as i type poor richard. My package sat for 5 days in a sorting facility. I assume anyway as there was no update for that amount of time. then finally it updates that it left Pa headed to my local post office in Ny. it goes past my post office by an hour and i get the whole mis shipped message. I call fedex and fedex tells me the post office has it. I call the post office and they tell me it was returned to fedex smart post. The mis shipped message has not updated in 5 days. No one knows where my package is. They just keep passing the buck. My item is new carpeting …How do you lose carpet. They’re are area rugs 4′x8′. 3 of them. and no one knows anything. Finally i call the shipper “fingerhut” and they tell me they’ll send out an affidavit for me to fill out and send back “10 days to recieve the affidavit” and then time to send it back. After i send it back there’s another 30 days for them to investigate. I’ve never liked smart post and it seems 15th century to me that they have no way of knowing where that package is at all times until it’s delivered. In my opinion, the company chose smartpost. Not me. I wonder how they would feel if i said i’m not paying until i get my package. I’m sure that wouldn’t set well with them. They should resend my item immediately as they can verify the information on the fedex and usps sites. Then, take it up with smartpost. btw, you can speak with someone at smartpost …call fedex and tell them to transfer you to smartpost. they tried telling me there was no number and the shipper only could speak with them. I through a fit and they transfered me. Alot of good that did ….they gave me the same song and dance. but it is possible to speak with someone at smart post. Let me know please if you ever did receive your package. So i know what i have in store for myself.
      thank you .

  246. I ship out Smarts post all the time, we signed a shipping contract with FEDEX that gives us much better rates. I can’t complain, we ship out foil pack samples of our products to our potential customers. We do notify our customer that they will recive the samples with in 2-3 weeks. so there is no problems, I want to say that Smart post has really worked very well for us. by saving me over 20% on related shipping cost on samples.
but yes we also save the residential fee that apply to small packages. without insurance

  247. pissed off says:

:( what is wrong with amazon.com? why is my shipment being second handed from USPS to fedex smartpost!? even the assistant works there knows that it’s a shitty delivery method. i can’t believe that i got screwed by amazon! if they make this hard for me to get my purchase, i guess i won’t be shopping there anymore. i would like to see just how many customers amazon would like to loose before they change their cheap shipping method.

  248. upset but proud ehh says:

not getting packages is very frustrating especially when its around christmas time..waiting and waiting. but let me tell you. ive worked for fedex smartpost for almost two years now…they’re still a newer company. YES its fedex but they’re their own unit. around christmas time my sort alone would process and ship out 50 to 60 thousand packages a day..thats only one sort. theres normally about 4 a day in a facility. you could imagine thats alot of work so mistakes happen..and during peak our hub took away our 10 minute breaks to get more done..now lets see how many more mistakes occur.5 hours straight, its physical and tedious work and gets very hard at times..cut em some slack…i will say this tho. dont work for them!! were still not getting our breaks. and i got written up for calling in with food poisoning AND a funeral….”i didnt give them two weeks notice”
its their policy though \: i just dont understand how im supposed to plan out the death of my aunt….they will hire any body also……no drug test

oh n to add the coca hub 929 is number 2 in all fedex smartpost facilities woo woo……so if you had problems its probably wasnt with us….we took 205,000 parcels of the LA hubs freight AND still did our own on time like it never happened HAAAAA

  249. Eliezer Ekstein says:

they are ward, i called them with a tracking numbers and they told me that it’s not picked up from the shipper yet, and externally it states that it’s in transit…
than he told me that he’s confused and he has no clue where this package is…

  250. smartpost victim says:

another smartpost victim. It is amazing to read all of these comments and wonder how long this can go on. My package has been missing for 2 months. Passed between USPS and FED EX , and no one claims responsibility. My package can not be replaced, and Smartpost representative is simply rude. USPS says Fed Ex may have stolen package or at least that’s what they’ve been told. WHAT??? USPS says 160 packages were lost by Fed Ex, and local post office is still waiting on them. Customer is lost in the middle and no one is accountable. SCREW FED EX

  251. amelia schott says:

The ONLY good that comes from Leetsdale PA smartpost is that when I complain that my package is lost and they see it hasnt been on the radar in a week they refund my money and I will eventually still get my package between a week to 2 months later.

  252. Steve Solomon says:

This is not acceptable service. I will avoid by any means in the future. The package route does not make sense. It move from city to city with out moving an inch towards its destination. I wish I had done my research before I did my homework.

  253. Frustuated says:

Well my problem with FedEx smartpost is not about if items are delivered on time but if I’m actually going to get it. When I tracked my package, it said “exception delivery,” and instructed me to contact my local post office to set up a pick up. So I did, the lady on the phone then told me to bring in the slip they should have left. I told them that I was not left a slip, and not only that I was home all day and did not see anyone attempting to make a delivery. So she checked my order number, and told me there should have been a note left, when she went to go see if there was a package there and could not explain why it was not there. Then she informed me that the carrier was gone for the long weekend to ask if he knows where it is (really?) So I have to check back on Monday. Unbelievable, I’ll keep you updated.

  254. Ron says:

I have to agree.Smartpost sucks. The whole point of using UPS or Fedex was to get speedy delivery. It made no sense that both companies cut corners and provide this third rate service.Twice I have had packages disappear into oblivion by Fedex with this service.I would never use them again but the seller is often very misleading in telling you how they ship until its too late.

As it stands I got stuck with this crappy service once again.Instead of the usual 3-5 day delivery time smartpost tells me its going to take over a week.I would of been better off using priority or fist class mail and paid less to if I had the choice!Shame on you Fedex!

  255. Rob says:

Just ship UPS… It’s better all the way around.

  256. Ron says:

    Frustuated,

I once checked the tracking website because a package had not been delivered on the day it was out for delivery.I saw “Exception,no one home” or something to that effect.I in fact was home and nothing was delivered and no slip.I was 10 feet from door all day with a clear view outside, nothing.I called and complained and mysteriously the parcel was on my door at 9PM.

Later I asked a few fedex employees that are friends about this incident. What happens is some of these drivers will get lazy at the end of the day and not want to deliver their last packages so they will mark the delivery as no one was home or some other excuse.I wasn’t buying that and I called,so I suspect the driver had to get back out and make the delivery that night. Its unacceptable and whoever engages in this kind of activity should be fired.

  257. GLENN says:

I AGREE WITH EVERY COMMENT MADE ON THIS WEBSITE. I ORDERED AN ITEM FROM A COMPANY THAT IS LOCATED IN MY STATE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE COMPANY’S STORE IS ONLY LOCATED 76 MILES FROM THE PACKAGE’S DESTINATION. FED EX SMART POST SHIPPING INFORMED ME THROUGH ITS TRACKING SYSTEM THAT IT WILL TAKE 6 DAYS BEFORE THE PACKAGE IS DELIVERED. 76 MILES IN ONLY 90 DRIVING MINUTES. WHAT A RIP OFF! AMAZON.COM AND USPS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. USE THESE SERVICES AT YOUR AT YOUR PERIL.

  258. PAT says:

My package mailed from Texas, has been sitting in Atlanta Georgia for almost a week now! Why this company sent it with FED ex is beyond me it would have been here by now with regular mail service!

  259. jd says:

just wondering has anyone ever tried to track your package on the usps website after it was ‘handed’ to usps by fedex? most of the posts i saw people just call fedex, why not trying calling usps? i ordered something and it’s shipped via smartpost. it’s painfully slow! hopefully my package doesn’t get lost…

  260. Michael S says:

Beware! Amazon.com uses FedEx SmartPost for their Super Saver Shipping orders.

My package has been sitting at the same post office in my city for 3 days now.

Last time I ordered SSS from Amazon I thought the terrible wait for my package was a fluke. Now I know that Amazon is trying to screw over their customers.

  261. Concerned says:

For those people who work in this industry and are trying to defend SmartPost, it’s a shallow argument. I believe all of us realize that no industry can operate without making mistakes from time to time, but this is not the main issue. The point of real contention is the fact that the SmartPost system has virtually no accountability associated with it whatsoever. If you are having a problem and call FedEx, they refer you to USPS. When you call USPS, they refer you back to FedEx. You can defend the industry all you want, but the SmartPost system seems to be a cheap shot at shirking responsibility and doing away with the checks and balances that keep parcel delivery running efficiently.

  262. Steve says:

I ordered shoes from DSW online and the shipment that should have taken 3 days is now on day 12….this is ridiculous. I regularly buy PC parts from Newegg.com (who is known for excellent customer service and shipping times) and a while back I had a shipment from them that took 10 days on a 3 day ground delivery. When i emailed newegg about the issues, they confirmed the ship date and delivery date and gave me a full shipping price refund for my trouble explaining that they had recently started using smartpost and where having tons of issues with stuff being delivered late. For a company that strives off of their reputation for customer service and prompt shipping this kind thing could be terrible for business. They have since stopped using smart post for ANYTHING and my last purchase got here in 2 days on 3 day ground. Smartpost, please, please, please just crawl off into the corner and die.

  263. Someone... says:

Look guys, I understand all of your frustration, I do. I work for Fedex, and all I can tell you is, if you want a package sent on time, avoid smartpost. Once it’s out of our hands we legally cannot touch it. So it’s then up to USPS to deliver said package. The only reason you SHOULD use smartpost is because there isn’t a Fedex hub, ramp, or office anywhere near you. That’s what this service us for. Our job is to get it from the person/company shipping it, and give it to the USPS. That’s it. So let me explain this again. Once we deliver it, it is out of our hands, literally. The reason this service was created was to get packages out to places Fedex office is not, but a USPS office is.

    • S Wiedle says:

The problem is when I order online or over the phone, you are not told it is going by Smart Post. Sometimes I remember to ask, other times the person on the other end says they don’t know. I live in Anchorage, Alaska and we have Fed Ex and UPS Hubs here, but many of the companies in the Lower 48 do not have a clue and argue with me that we do not have this service here. Hello, I live close to the airport for 30+ years, I know what I am talking about. I believe the supervisors of those clerks do not give them the proper information IF they even know it themselves. I order a lot and I am totally enraged at this service if you can even call it a service.

  264. Shannon says:

I ordered an ipod touch from amazon.com for the kids to use in the car on vacation. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday. I checked the tracking and now delivery is changed to July 6th which is a full week later. So the problem now is we leave on the 5th to see the last Shuttle launch. Yesterday afternoon I ordered an HTC EVO from Sprint and they said it would take 2-5 business days to be delivered, UPS delivered it to me an hour ago. Compare the 2 services and you will see that was is incompetent and the other one actually gives a shit about the customer.

  265. doc says:

Ordered an item 3 hours from my house, 3 days later still no package. I will NEVER buy from a company that even offers fedex scampost.

  266. Austin says:

I had a small order that I ordered on the 8th and it finally delivered on the 19th. It had to move from Utah to Oklahoma. Not exactly a great distance in terms of shipping. UPS Mail Innovations is the same way. Anytime you include both its awful. Just use Fedex or just use USPS don’t mix anything.

  267. Helena says:

I am really pissed of with FedEx Smart Post in Dallas TX. They had my package for 4!! days near final destination( 30 min away) and in was “in transit to final location.” Result- person who I mailed the package to left the hotel before they delivered the box. Surprise ruined, need to deal with return and lose the shipping cost((

    • S Wiedle says:

I noticed on one of my three packages that came via Smart Post had arrived at destination two days before but you better believe it was not delivered before the date they estimated, such a terrible service. I will stop ordering from companies that use this service. The people that ship this service are ignorant in my opinion. I wonder how long this service is going to be in use and or how much does it take for someone to realize …..it is not working!

  268. Jack Benimble says:

I wouldn’t hit a dead dog in the @$$ with FedEx “SmartPost”. These ma-jokes redefine s-l-o-w!

To ship a small package ( a mini-diisplay port to HDMI adapter) from an Apple distribution center somewhere in Pennsylvania – near Harrisburg, I think – to Charlotte, NC …… 9 days!!!!!!!!! August 6th to the 15th!!!!

J.F.C.!!! A 6th grader on a bicycle wearing a backpack could get it here quicker ……

    Butt-wipes ……………………………….

  269. S Wiedle says:

Smart Post is a terrible service and whoever invented should be fired. I am totally diguisted and the worst part of this is you do not know if what you are ordering is being sent by Smart Post. They charge more than parcel post and that should also be dissolved. It took my package 5 weeks to get from Ohio to Anchorage, and another time from California to Anchorage 4 weeks. Now I have a package coming from North Style, I ordered it Aug 1, it will get here August 25, ALL BY SMART POST, what is wrong with this service and what is it!!! I received 6 packages since I ordered this one and all arrived in 8 days via USPS Priority. They always give the excuse …..it takes longer for Anchorage, but that is not true and it does not cost any more either. People/companies need to come into the 21 century, and get the proper information on Alaska, we do not live in Igloos nor do we get our mail by dog sled, although this could be it!! I am sure it would be not much slower. In the future all companies that send my merchandise this way, I will not order from them again. I cannot believe this is supposed to be service, it certainly does not service the customer and WE the customer always pay no matter how it is sent. So it is pure no motivation on the company to not give the customer what they want.

  270. latecomer says:

What if the employees at smartpost where to get their paychecks via this system. They would not be as quick to defend very poor service. Retailers need to understand that choosing this shipping method will not generate repeat customers even if they are able to offer free shipping. If you go to a great restaurant where the food is out of this world and your server does not deliver food in a timely manner or never returns to your table when they say they will, you will tell everyone not to visit this place because of how crappy the service was. never use this shipping method again and it will eventually go away…

  271. adam says:

i work for fedex. here is the scoop. usps packages are bagged at the smartpost sort facility and the bag is sent through the fedex ground system as one package containing many. I deliver these smartpost bags every day and they are treated with the same urgency we give all our packages. the usps folks however, are in no hurry to scan the boxes into their system because once in, they have to sort and deliver them and we deliver alot of them daily. often they literally get thrown into a corner at your local usps. You guys need to remember that all carriers have levels of service. smartpost is a dirt cheap option for getting a package in 2-7 days (depending on distance)if you want the most reliable, fastest delivery service we offer that too. just dont forget which option you selected.

  272. adam says:

oh, and fyi..usps priority is essentially smartpost but fedex express is the middleman rather than fedex ground

  273. adam says:

thats why they let us put our drop boxes outside their front door. we are the usps..we are the reason they arent losing every other package like they were in the 90′s

  274. HEMI MUSIC says:

Just another reason why FedEx sucks balls:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY6G88pfIfY

pass this on..make sure everyone knows they’re wack.

  275. Matthew Zimmerman says:

Amazon.com has used this shitful service for the last couple years.Funny thing is this loose things constantly.I wonder how this service is supposed to save them money if you have to reship the item once again too the customer because they loose it all the time.Last three of my packages magically disappear never to be seen again.Either lost by fedex or the usps. Both always end up blaming each other but when it comes down to it they are both at fault as well as the company you buy from from for using fedex stupidpost.

  276. Propel says:

bloody hell I hate FedEx SmartPost… worst shipping service ever.

The BEST shipment I ever had it took 3 days to go from Chino CA, to Los Angelas CA, (about 35 – 40 miles). USPS by it self could have had the package cross country in that time!

  277. Propel says:

    @adam,

Thanks for the info, but I think one frustration is that many people do not disclose SmartPost as being how the package is actually sent. It gets disclosed as just FedEx or just USPS. when really SmartPost is the Bastard Child of both of them.

also, that best experience I mentioned, (Chino CA to LA CA) 3 days in the FedEx System to get from one to the other, the day after USPS had the package it was delivered. so I’m not convinced that USPS is the problem. I’m sure there are cases when it is the problem of the local post office, but not in my personal experiences.

  278. Kelley says:

FedEx SmartPost Sucks! Unfortunately, this is the very poor shipping service used by Amazon on it “free shipping” orders and since they switched from sending packages directly through the USPS and sending them via FedEx SmartPost, the delivery time has doubled and the package tracking doesn’t work at all. It appears that FedEx holds all shipments at it’s warehouses until they have what they think is a justifiably large enough bag of packages to finally deliver it to the destination post office. Once it gets to the post office I get my shipment same day or next day. But it may take a week or longer in the FedEx warehouse before it gets delivered by FedEx to the destination post office. This is unacceptable and I have reported this to Amazon. I suggest that everyone and anyone who receives this poor FedEx service called SmartPost complain directly to the merchants who use this poor delivery service and tell them you do not want your purchases delayed by using this poor shipping service and let them know that if they continue to use poor delivery services like FedEx SmartPost, that you will start shopping with companies that use better, more reputable shippers. Then do just that. Maybe when enough companies get wise, we can go back to getting quick, reliable delivery service, something FedEx SmartPost does not provide.

  279. nsanity says:

Stumbled across this place somehow. This site had me worried, but FedEx Smartpost has not failed me yet. 3 different packages so far, got there earlier than they originally said it would get there. Ordered all packages from Amazon on the 5th and 6th, it was shipped on Friday the 7th. Got here on the 12th. I’ll be back if they ever fail me but so far so good.

  280. pr says:

    WTF????!?!!?

12 days for a book from CA to NJ??? The book has been in NJ for the past 3 days scheduled delivery is in 2 days????

    Did I mention WTF?????

  281. Sam B. says:

So how about this? My pckage from Old Navy was put into the mail via Fedex SmartPost on 10/22 and was expected to arrive today, 10/28. Well accoring to the tracking system, it was a day ahead of scheduole, which is amazing in the first place! Everything was hunkydory until yesterday… I went online to track the package and see where it was, and it says “delivered to addressee”….but I have no package. I checked with all the neighbors, and they didn’t receive it either. Naturally, Fedex is trying to tell me it was delivered, per the tracking system, and I “must be mistaken”. I was told to contact Old Navy to get a claim submitted. WTF???

  282. TSACGIV says:

DO NOT USE FEDERAL EXPRESS.IT IS A TERRIBLE SERVICE.
    PLEASE READ ALL POSTS HERE.
I’M WAITING FOR A PACKAGE HERE SINCE LAST WEEK.

  283. Pat Tilley says:

My first experience with FedEx Smartpost. Did not even know about it until my package was sent to their office in Kent, WA. My pkg. was shipped from Durham, NC on 10/31/11 arriving in Troutdale, OR. on 11/4/11. That office is 40 miles north of my home on the I-5 corridor. I expected to receive my pkg. the next day as FedEx trucks drive past my home daily. Instead, they ship my pkg to Kent, WA. 204 miles north of my town only to be re-routed through the US Postal service for delivery on 11/9, if that is even correct. I didn’t have any choice in the selection of FedEx but you can better believe I will ask in future if the company I am purchasing from ships using the FedEx Smartpost. And if it does, my business will go elsewhere. I sent an inquiry to the business about the shipping method but have not heard from them. FedEx needs to get these messages!

  284. Josh says:

After seeing this site and the fact that it to 1 day for my package to go 20 miles I thought I was going to have an experience like everyone else but not so. I got my package 7 days after it was shipped and 2 days before the delivery date they had. Though after all the horrific storys that many have had I will just pay a little more so I get it sooner than later.

  285. she says:

hey they don’t even knock on my door now they just drop the packages there and leave how sick is that i mean really come on you cant even knock all of them suck

  286. Ron says:

haha…like everyone here I too found this blog entry trying to figure out what fedex smartpost was. Man, service is terrible. For a simple circuit breaker, which I need for my kitchen outlets, I’ve been waiting over two weeks to get a small package shipped from 400 miles away!

  287. Melanie says:

I placed an order with Amazon. Didn’t know that it was sent via Fedex Smartpost. Said the delivery date would be 12/12. Then yesterday, it changed to 12/13. Now there is no delivery date. Per my Fedex tracking number, the package has been at my local post office since 10:57 am on 12/12. If this is who Amazon chooses to use, I will not be ordering from them again.

  288. Kavin says:

These assclowns like to deliver when people are at work instead of delivering after 5pm

  289. Angry Customer says:

I ordered a jersey from the COLTS NFL PROSHOP on Friday, 12/9 and the item was shipped on Tuesday, 12/14. It is now 12/21 and the item has been sitting at a post office in my city for 4 days now!

The NFL Pro Shop website said if I had ordered the item I would receive it by Christmas. Oh yeah, and I paid $10 for the shipping on this item. Outrageous!

I orderd a clock from “as seen on tv” 0n 12/10/2011 FedEx recieved the shipping order on the 18th 8 days later, it sat at NORTHBOROUGH, MA FedEx Smartpost for 3 days, it left on the 21st, according to the tracking I should recieve it on the 23rd, well it didn’t come I rechecked the tracking its now at FEDEX SMARTPOST BELLEVILLE, MI and was changed to the 28th, IT WILL TAKE 5 DAYS TO GO THE LAST 45 MILES. Lousy service from the very start of my order. I guess I should have ordered it in June.

  291. Matthew says:

Wtf were these ppl thinking. This is a f*** up service. I have and would recommend to everyone to not use this service.

  292. Tracey says:

FedEx Standard to USPS is some utter and total BULLSHIT. I knew this from when I ordered a set of Zumba DVD’s about a year or so ago… well on 12/27 I ordered some shoes from DSW and I was thinking that my shoes should be here… Lo and behold I check the tracking and the package was supposedly delivered Friday 12/31 at 1:33 pm. Of course, they don’t require signature, and my office had already closed. But in that case, it should have been held with the other mail that was delivered for Saturday and yesterday… and DSW can’t/won’t do anything about it in the way of a refund until the 10th business day, which is another freaking WEEK from today. I don’t even want the money back – I want my damn shoes~!

  293. WaltInPittsburgh says:

I cringe every time Amazon ships USPS, and it goes through FedEx Smartpost. I have no idea when I will receive the package, and I travel a lot. To their credit, I get it early a lot of the time even though the tracking it is no where near me, but it would be nice to have accurate tracking. I am thinking of quiting ordering from Amazon due to their USPS shipping more and more.

  294. Thanks a bunch for sharing this with all folks you really understand what you are speaking about! Bookmarked. Kindly also seek advice from my website =). We will have a link trade contract between us

10 days (so far) from Dallas to SW Ohio! Shipping that involves the USPS… STILL no package! Can anyone imagine delays and lack of good information. After spending the morning trying to find why it has set 40 miles away for 5 days – I found they do not ship to the local post office until they get a full pallet of packages!!! 300. Lilly says:

Those no so smart guys from smart-post fedex somehow delivered my package to my office building on Saturday when it is actually closed and nobody is even available to get packages. In addition they obtained delivery confirmation signature. Who from? My package is lost. Oh, it was placed with Beyond the Rack (before Christmas) and if they use Smart-post Fedex as their delivery service I will never use it again. Period.

  301. Evelyn says:

Thanks to Ron for his comment on 01/17/12 stating that they do not ship to the post office until they have a full pallet. My package has been sitting 2 miles from my house in my little town since Jan 27th, and still hasn’t been turned over to usps. I could not figure out why, and neither shipper would give me info. The weird thing is, we don’t have a fedex distribution center in our town. I did not choose smartpost, and will never opt for a site’s own “free shipping” knowing that they may use smartpost. I’m currently waiting on a package shipped by fedex smartpost and I hate it.. it’s been over a week now.. I got the package I ordered that was shipped by usps a few days ago and I’m still waiting.. crazy thing is.. according to tracking.. my package has sat all yesterday at the same location without moving forward.. and only did so last night. Instead of getting closer it went further away by maybe 30 mns to an hour drive time. Still in state though.. I don’t see what the hold up is.. I’m never ordering anything with fedex smartpost shipping again.. and to think I even paid for the shipping.. But I didn’t even know what smartpost was. All I really took into account was fedex.. but then I call to try and figure out what the holdup is and nobody can tell me anything.. nobody has proper tracking of my package.. and how delayed is the tracking information anyway??

  305. MikeyDoesn'tLike says:

FEDEX SMARTPOST = United State Postal Service = FAIL; I was expecting the FEDEX truck delivery time, not the postal service time; USPS left a note to pick it up on Saturday; Ha…… When there, the place was closed. The notice even posted Saturday hours on the slip. What a joke that service is. I am not sure I am going to get my package because I work for a living. What’s the point of delivering to my home when I have to travel 10 miles to pick it up.

  306. Craig says:

FedEx Smartpost in my opinion is one of the slowest ways to ship. I have dealt with several companies that used FedEx Smartpost and the outcome has always been the same. USPS takes about 3 days to ship a small package from the east coast to the west coast. FedEx ground takes about 5 days to ship a small package from the east coast to the west coast. When both of them are used together as FedEx Smartpost does, a small package takes about 8 days to travel across the country.

  307. Roxanna says:

I order a $125 package on 5/1/12; it was sent out on 5/3/12 I starting checking the fedex webasite a week later. To date (6/11/12) it is still showing in transit as of 5/7/12 with NO UPDATES!!! I called Fedex, they said give it another week and call us back. I gave it a week and a half. Still no package, I called Fedex, the girl with the SmarPost division says — we have to track within 2 weeks of shipping — WHAT?!? the other gal said to wait. The company I order from had to place a claim and resend my shipment which wasn’t complete because they ran out of 1 item. UGH!

  308. Lynn says:

I kind of feel relieved now. I purchased something through Ebay and it only said standard shipping which turned out to be FedEx. It was sent from Michigan on Monday, departed Ellenwood,Ga on the 11th and nothing has been updated since. Ellenwood is only five hours from my home so maybe it’ll arrive tomorrow.

Now Amazon is even using SmartPost! I really liked Amazon too… of course I’ve always hated their S&H practices, so this really isn’t that big of a shock.

Back to SmartPost tough. It cost $6 for SmartPost to send an Otterbox cover for my cell phone this week. From what I can tell, the package originated in Murfresboro, Tn (4hrs. east of here) then it traveled to Southhaven, MS (2hrs. west of here) and it’s scheduled to get here in… NINE DAYS!?!

This is where I get dumbfounded… the package basically passed right by my town and kept going (a drive that took no less than 6hrs.) when it could’ve been routed to our nearest FedEx facility which is just 30min. from here, (in Corinth,MS.)

WHY??? Companies wonder WHY they are loosing money? It’s common sense people! Why in the world would you drive packages 2+ hours out of the way just to have to turn around and drive them BACK in a few days?

Its the same thing with the USPS that’s going bankrupt… I can address a letter to my next door neighbor and it will travel either to Jackson,Tn (1.5hrs away) or to Memohis,Tn (2+ hours away) before it turns around and comes back to our town and into my neighbors mailbox! All that time and money are just wasted… and no one realizes what’s wrong? Really?

Trust me the SmartPost is just one of their problems. I have had two international shipments with them this month. To make a long story short, they keep changing the estimated delivery dates, so I never know when to really expect shipments. My advise is to go with DHL, maybe FedEx will finally get the message!!!!

one of the worse service is the fedex smart post. first they come to my office on Saturday which we are always closed. then the tracking number said that its a local usps office to pick up. Spend 30 min at the post office and was told they need the converted number. Called Fedex 4 times and was told that there system is down. Finally when system was up i was told that they do not have the converted number and need to get it from the shipper. US post can’t help me, FEDEX cant help me stuck with the packing somewhere in moron land.
