FedEx SmartPost: What a terrible service!!

I normally do not ship much and try to either use UPS or USPS to send my packages. I have also used FedEx in the past with relative success. However, now the big names have come up with a way to be completely irresponsible for their service and in the process make it “cheaper” for its users. Announcing Fedex Smartpost. I really wonder how executives at these shipping companies can come up with this horseshit and put it into production without performing a reality check. I see Fedex Smartpost as a way for Fedex and USPS to completely deny any accountability for a package shipped through this service, thus reducing overhead normally associated with extra checks and balances to control loss and/or mistakes. This makes everyone concerned look really, really bad. They need to hire better marketing and managerial folks.
I was shipped a small package through this service and somehow it got lost in the shuffle. However, now Fedex has no way of tracking it, nor does USPS. They both asked me to visit the others’ website/phone support to get it resolved. I shudder to think what would have happened if this package was expensive or had an insurance claim of some kind. Needless to say, I will never ship anything again (or have anything shipped to me) with any “Smartpost” type service. I really like accountability and would like to think that my carriers are responsible enough and reliable enough to want be accountable since they sell reliability and their business models are based on reliability of service. If anyone reading this was thinking about using Fedex Smartpost, I would strongly suggest against it. Save yourself the hassle and the line of flaming dog poop that these people are offering and pay a few bucks extra to use a better service.

  1. DONT USE FED EX SMART POST

I AM SO MAD. ITS CHRISTMAS TIME YOU KNOW. ORDERING GIFTS FOR ALL THOSE LOVED ONES. WELL DON’T USE FED EX SMART POST IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE THESE GIFTS. I ORDERED 2 PACKAGES FROM A COMPANY AT THE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER, TO MAKE SURE THEY WOULD GET HERE IN TIME. ONE THEY SHIPPED VIA USPS AND IT CAME IN 2 DAYS, FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE OTHER ONE THEY SHIPPED USING FED EX SMART POST AND IT TOOK 10 LONG DAYS TO GET. BUT OK IT WAS STILL THE MIDDLE OF DECEMBER SO FINE. NOW ON DEC 9TH I ORDERED FROM A COMPANY THAT IS ABOUT 30 MINUTES AWAY FROM ME. I THOUGHT FOR SURE I WOULD GET THIS ITEM IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS DROP IT IN A MAIL BOX AND IT WOULD ARRIVE THE NEXT DAY. BUT NO NO NO, THEY USED FED EX SMART POST. IT SPENT 2 DAYS IN THIS STATE, 2 DAYS IN ANOTHER STATE, 3 MORE DAYS IN ANOTHER STATE, AND IT ISN’T EVEN BACK IN MY STATE YET. THE ARRIVAL DATE HAS CHANGED 3 TIMES, AND IS GETTING VERY CLOSE TO NOT ARRIVING BEFORE CHRISTMAS. FED EX SMART POST IS A LYING STUPID WASTE OF TIME AND PEOPLES MONEY. I JUST HAD TO VENT

  3. I ordered from Coldwater Creek on the 22nd of Dec. and they shipped SmartPost and charged me $16.95 for shipping. I still don’t have it 10 days later. What a ripoff. Sending it by Fedex alone would have been cheaper and more effecient.

  4. Agree, Agree, Agree. I’ve been waiting 15 business days for one package & 12 for another. Both packages are coming from retailers of nearby states. What a joke. And accountability- NONE. Your left out in the cold. The retailers shipped & the post office has not received. Just wait they all say. So as if I have a choice, wait-wait-wait it’s been. Half a month & still empty handed, empty wallet, EMPTY PROMISE. SMARTPOST “PONYEXPRESS POST”. Fedex should be embarrased to be associated with such a flop.

  5. Having these same problems at the current moment. I ordered a nintendo wii bundle from circuitcity.com. The bundle includes 2 games, extra controller and of course the system. Well, the 2 games and extra controller were shipped USPS and got to my house in 2 shipping days. The system however, was shipped via smartpost. It was shipped out the 5th, got to the Grove City, Ohio “sortation center” on the 6th, and fedex tracking says that it has been there ever since! With a $250 package I’m getting a little worried…

  6. Ordered an online item from GNC. They shipped it Smartpost. It’s been going on two weeks since I’ve placed my order and no one knows where it is. All GNC knows is that it has “left the warehouse”. Why am I so pissed? The distribution warehouse that my item shipped from is only 9 miles down the road from me. I could have walked down there to pick the frigging item up!

  7. West End – The exact same thing happened for me… I found your comment when I was searching for the Phone number for the black hole known as the Grove City Sortation Center… I have the same Wii lost in the process… but man the games and controller are awesome to play w/o the actual system.

I called Circuit City but of course they are no help, they say they will reship it but dont have any in stock… what a joke…

  10. My Wii was stolen by FedEx SmartPost in Grove City! Here is a copy of the e-mail I received from Circuit City:

‘Thank you for placing your order with www.circuitcity.com. We appreciate your business. Unfortunately, the carrier lost the package with the Nintendo Wii console and our distribution center is unable to fulfill your
    order.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Our stock is continuously replenished, so please check back with us soon.

    ...

Thanks again for visiting our web site. We look forward to supplying what you need in the future.’

I will never use SmartPost or CC again.

  11. I agree. My package has been sitting for 3 days at a time in three different Fedex SmartPost SORTATION CENTERS (code word for the bermuda triangle of shipping). What a joke. I think Circuit City needs to rethink their shipping partnership in a hurry.

Comment by still waiting 1/26/2007 @ 3:47 pm

  12. Ok, I have read enough bashing about FedEx SmartPost. For those of you that don’t have a clue about logistics; as I can tell by your comments you don’t, a sortation center is basically the same as the post office calls a Bulk Mail Center. They receive the parcels; or mail for those of lesser minds, and sort it to the closest zip code allowing direct delivery of items from a shipper. Which FedEx SmartPost has got down to most of your local post offices.

As for delivery times for SmartPost verses FedEx Ground… Both take the exact time to deliver to your home. 2-7 days, and since FedEx SmartPost is using the Postal Service for final delivery, I would say that is damn good.
Now for the pricing issue I have read about. Let me just say that most of the places you would order from not only charge you the amount for shipping, but they also charge you to package the item and handle it until it is picked up…
To end this rambling, let me just say before you go blasting a company, know your facts.

  13. I am currently experiencing the same Black Hole of Sortation Centers. My Wii has been apparently sitting in the Earth City, MO Sortation Center for 5 days now. Comparing this to standard FedEx service is a joke, as the logistics of their entire distribution system appears flawed. I have never seen this type of problem with UPS or the post office. I mean, cmon, they are making me DEFEND THE POST OFFICE! Something tells me that I can probably make a large bid on my Wii on Ebay thanks to Joe Schmo Sorter from the Sortation center swiping packages. That would explain how nobody can get any, yet there are 1000’s on Ebay.

I’ve had other issues with FedEx too. Like needing a signature for pickup on an item. They habitually leave a note saying “we missed you at 1PM, we will try again tomorrow after 4PM”. Yet, leave work early the next day, and the SAME note is there because they missed me at 1PM again.

  14. I will never use Fedex Home Delivery again. I supposed to receive a package from Bekcer CPA review. I just do not understand why Becker uses this horrible service of Fedex. I called Fedex three times to ensure that they hold my package so that I can pick them up by myself. As you know the Becker Review course is very expensive, therefore, I do not want them to just leave in front of my door. The center on 700 Wise Rd in Schaumburg IL, never paid attention to the message sent by the Fedex Headquarter. I really doubt that this is the first time. In addition, the service hour is very short. You cannot pick your package like 5pm, they are close!! I am hoping that Fedex loosing customers from doing this Home Delivery service so that they do not offer this cheaper and annoying service. I do not mind paying more monies as long as good service. I wish I had a way to spread the word to everybody.

  15. I agree. DON’T USE FEDEX SMARTPOST. There is nothing smart about their service unless you are the thief. I have lost two packages ( a wii console and a tmx elmo ) to the thieves at Fedex SmartPost and they keep saying it is the post office not them.

  16. Fed-Ex SmartPost Sucks! I am going through the same problem with ordering a Wii from Circuit City as well. I have read countless complaints about this new disaster of a service from FedEx all over the Internet. This forum here is only one among many with people complaining about this (dis)service. I ordered the Wii and a one game from CC at the same time. The game got to me one business day later being shipped directly with USPS. The Wii console, shipped with FedEx StupidPost has circumnavigated the United States all around my state of Alabama going from Oregon, to Atlanta, Georgia, to Orlando, Florida. It has been 8-days so far, but I fear even worse after reading the multitude of complaints about this service all over the Internet. The latest tracking information states that the USPS has received Electronic Shipping Information about my package, but has not received my actual package.

And as far as Roger’s haughty comments above (Post #12), basically F*ck you and your arrogant attitude. Why don’t YOU get YOUR facts straight before spouting off and defending FedEx’s STUPIDpost DIService. There is no shortage of people complaining about no delivery at all or delivery times way beyond the 2-7 days time frame you claim FedEx SmartPost maintains. I mean, what did you think that everyone in this thread is just making this stuff up?

    Comment by Dave 3/9/2007 @ 11:47 am

  17. Well I just received my Wii. It took 11-days to get here which is not too bad compared to some of your other StupidPost horror stories. Still, lesson learned, and I will definitely not go for the free delivery service from Circuit City or any other company which I suspect may use FedEx SmartPost anymore.

    Comment by Dave 3/13/2007 @ 12:31 pm

  18. My package has been sitting in a sortation center for 6 days. Not sure where in this city that is but I am sure I could walk there in 6 days with time to spare. Still cannot find out when it will be delivered as I cannot get a live person at FedEx SmartPost and the local post office knowns nothing about this service. Remember the game button button who’s got he button? Package package who’s got the package. Li’l Abner got his mail by US MULE and that was faster and more reliable.

    Comment by Chuck 3/22/2007 @ 10:42 am

  19. SMARTPOST has got to be the worse possible shipping formula ever. A package that is normally received in 2 days by UPS is taking 14 days with SMARTPOST. The contents are now worthless after traveling all over the country and subjected to all kinds of weather and temperature. I will no longer order from any company that uses this terrible shipping concept.

    Comment by JOHN 3/30/2007 @ 3:48 pm

  20. Stupidpost! For the person who was defending Fed Ex and SMARTPOST, let me say this. I have 7 years in logistics (Emergency Medical Delivery) and for 15 years I worked for USPS. I understand both. SMARTPOST is a good idea, but will not work. Why…...accountability. NO ONE CLAIMS TO BE RESPONSIBLE. In any business, when you play the blame game, the consumer loses. I ordered from Fingerhut and they gave me two tracking numbers. The first was sent USPS and I received it 2 days later. The second was sent SMARTPOST. The first was my free gift, and the second was my $200 dollar phones. The first I tracked and knew exactly where it was. The second says “NO RECORD”. Fingerhut says it is in Dallas and will be delivered Tues. (5 days from now). I asked them how they knew that and they said SMARTPOST tracking. SMARTPOST web site says the same as USPS. “NO RECORD”. Who knows?

    Comment by Larry 4/5/2007 @ 11:01 am

  21. FedEx SmartPost is a good way for a business to lose customers. Fed-Ex will blame the slowness on the USPS, and the USPS can blame it on Fed-Ex. Whoever thought it up should apologize to all businesses losing customers because of it. I ordered some filters, and the vendor used FedEx smart-post, so I cross that vendor from my list – without once complaining to either the vendor or to the carrier, (whoever claims to be the culprit). There are too many good vendors who care about customer service – why use one that uses such a terrible carrier(system). Fed-Ex HAD a good reputation – now I am not sure.

  22. why kill the messinger? the post office has 5 days to deliver after receiving the package. after the sortation center scan fedex no longer has custody of the package. it is totally under the control of usps, who i might add sucessfully delivers millions of these packages a week, tracking is a problem, but if you call fedex at 1800463339, they do have a phone number for smart post customer service. a little bit of research goes a long way

  24. I agree that “Smart Post” sucks. I ordered merchandise from Sony Style, I had no choice of the shipper from that site. It’s been 12 days so far from the order date. It was posted for shipment 7 days ago. Sony offers a tracking link and all it states is that it has been in my city’s post office just sitting for the past four days. Item has not been delivered yet. What could take four days to get from one side of town to the other? I’m not even in a big city.
This idea to put a great shipper together with the biggest US Government boondoggle is an awful idea. It makes FedEx look bad.

  25. Now an opinion from an insider. I’ve worked for FedEx for six years. Five with Ground and this past one with Smartpost. I’m not an apologist by any means, but you have to understand that we are going through what you might call “growing pains.” For starters, Smarpost (formerly Parcel Direct) was only purchased by FedEx in 2004, so the streamlining of operating sytems is not even complete yet. Also bear in mind that Smartpost’s largest competitor, Apex Logistics, filed for Chapter 11 in 2006. This lead to a massive growth in the volume that each Smartpost hub was sorting on a daily basis. The company had to open up four brand new sorting centers right smack in the middle of the 2006 peak shipping season. When I moved from Ground last year, I initially thought that it was the stupidest decision I had ever made. Now that we are integrating our shipments with those of FedEx Ground, there has been a remarkable improvement in our service. All I am saying is, understand what it’s like for someone working in the trenches of a brand new shipping company, especially one that is attached to such an established name.

  28. Smartpost is lousy! Two separate shippings have gotten “stuck” in LA. The first ultimately took 3 1/2 weeks to get to me in Hawaii. The second has been sitting in LA for 10 days now and they tell me it will be another 10 days (making for a 1 month delivery time!). Smartpost customer service was utterly unhelpful, passing it off to some sort of labeling problem . . . they assume. If so, then how did it make it across the US to their LA facility in the first place??? They literally told me that they ship hundreds of thousands of packages and cannot go checking on mine!! Kudos to that customer service rep! I will insist that my vendors use a different shipping method even if it effects the bottom line since customer service (my customers) is the most important thing in my business, even if it isn’t in theirs. As for comment #12, yes, I can read their website too and see that they promise delivery in 2-7 days. I’d be fine with that if they actually lived up to it.

  29. This is for Mr. Roger, #12: You must work for FedEx or have family who does. For the record, the last time I checked, Freedom of Speech is still in existence. People have the right to say what is on their minds, as well as tell others about their experience with any company that has not done their job properly or has crap Customer Service. We all know that things happen and with the amount of packages that are delivered all over the world, some will get misplaced. After reading the comments, I have come to the conclusion that there would not be so many bitter if one person took the time to help them. There is nothing worse than being brushed off or tossed to another person who ends up doing the same thing. The key to all this is simple….TRUTH. No one is looking for perfection with any company. Just tell them what has happened so they can take steps to fix it. Mr. Roger, get a clue and try adding some helpful, positive insight next time instead of criticism. Have a nice day. Good luck to all that have been a victim to being pushed aside, lied to or simply…never helped.

  32. Hi all I now share in your misery with Fedex Scampost. I placed on order from performancebike.com during a free shipping special. They sent it scampost. After languishing in and bouncing from sortation centers it arrives at the post office only to be sent out again 500 miles away and come back later the same day. At least that is what the tracking says. I called to post office ready to rip them a new one for letting my package sit around for 5 days. The PO say they never received it and that scampost gives them problems all the time. Even though tracking says it was accepted at the post office, that only means it was listed so in a bulk manifest. It seems their tracking is nothing but an outlet for them to lie and divert blame for their staggering incompetence to the PO. I will never deal with scampost again.

First of all the customer service is horrible and there are never any supervisors or anyone who knows what they are talking about. I asked the gentleman where he was located and he said the Phillipines. I could not believe it.They keep giving me the run around and one person says the package is on its way while another says it has not even left yet! This is the worst service I have ever encounterd! 37. I’ve now ordered from 2 stores that shipped via Smartpost and both were bad experiences. Big Surprise I know! The first one I thought for sure would never arrive. It was shipped from CA about 6 hours from where Iive. I could have drove there and back 10 times. The package reached the post office (according to Smarpost) on July 6. The tracking information at this point was never updated. I did finally recieve my pakage just the other day, on July 23. How ridiculous is this for a package shipped from California to California. I placed an order from Circuit City for a Nintendo Wii and a couple of games on July 20 and I noticed they shipped part of my order (the Nintendo Wii of course) via Smartpost. Great! This ones coming from TX to CA, so it should arrive in a couple months I guess. The funny thing is the other part (the video games) of my order that they shipped regular USPS has already arrived. So I’m not very happy right now. It seems like more companies are using this service. I agree, it should be called Scampost!

  38. I ordered some stuff from Woot on July 5th… I was waiting and waiting for the package, called the post office cause FedEX said they delivered it, they said they never got it, and I believe the post office, it is a small town so they just ran back to the back and looked. They said that FedEX just backs up to the door and unloads a pallet of stuff with one thing to scan and scanning that tells what should be on the pallet, they said it isn’t uncommon for it to say there are say 42 packages and there only be 40. Anyway, today JULY 25TH, I finally receive my package, imagine my excitement, open the Woot box, open the other box and there is nothing in it but the tools CD and the manual!! So after further inspecting the box I can see where someone pulled the label back, tore the address off I bet by accident, opened the other box and stuck a post-it note on the box with the address since they tore it off and taped the box back shut… I noticed someone saying something about Joe Blower Sorter Guy playing with their Wii, I think he is listening to MY media player as well…. I have a box opened by someone between me and woot that is empty to prove it….

  40. I recently had a package shipped from Performance Bike by SmartPost. It was held up at a sorting center in West Virginia for 3 days. But when it arrived in Kent, Washington it was shipped out on the following day and arrived at my home ahead of time. I just placed another order with Performance and it is being shipped by SmartPost. This time it arrived at the West Virginia sorting center late at night and left early the next morning. I do not have much to go on but it appears that the success of the shipping method depends upon the efficiency of the sorting center. Perhaps the efficiency will also improve with time. So far I am much more favorably impressed with the SmartPost than are most of the people that posted messages here.

The 2nd unit was shipped SmartPost due to arrive no later than 14 days from ship date. It sat in Atla, Ga for 4 days and 22 hours according to the track info. Now it is in Charlotte, NC and has sat there over 2 days and who knows how much longer. Circuit City says no refund after 14 days. Oh,yeah? I will put the Trouble Shooter on our local TV station on them if I have to. I am thinking of buying one in the next town and refusing to receive the darn thing.

  42. My second order from Performance Bike was shipped from North Carolina on August 12. It went through the West Virginia and Kent, Washington sorting centers and arrived at my door on the morning of August 17, three days ahead of schedule. I consider shipping a package all the way across the country in 5 days to be excellent service. I have limited experience with SmartPost because I have only received 2 packages that were shipped by this method. However, so far I have to give SmartPost a high mark for efficiency.

  43. I ordered a lithium battery from SonyStyle on August 2, 2007. The tracking system did not pick up anything for several days. Then the package made several stops at “sorting stations” on its way from Illinois. Then on August 11, Fed Ex says it delivered the package to my post office in southern California. On contacting the post office, they made several searches but had no record of it. On August 16, I tracked the package again…...this time on its way BACK to Illinois. Why? SonyStyle Customer Service [a misnomer] says the package was damaged and is being returned to the shipper. No notification was ever made to me about the package return status. But wait, there’s more! On contacting SonyStyle Customer Service, I asked to have another battery shipped to me. No, they said, I have to fill out a freight loss form which they would e-mail to me. I must sign this form and send it back to SonyStyle in order to get credit for the purchase. Yes, SonyStyle would send me another battery [free 1-day air shipping] but I’d have to pay for it up front. To date I have not received the freight loss e-mail form. Trying to get through by phone to SonyStyle is difficult, requiring long waits “for the next available operator.” If I want another lithium battery, I’ll have to wait for my SonyStyle credit refund and go out to Walmart to buy it! It appears that Sony is very regimented and is not in the least bit customer friendly.

  44. TERRIBLE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Just terribly disorganized delivery service. FedEx takes your package and delivers your package to a FedEx SmartPost (company bought out by FedEx recently) sorting hub where they will sit there for many days on end until SmartPost has met the full truck load quota of packages for your destination hub. Half the time they send the packages to the wrong sorting hubs and then they end up sending it across the country. IF it does finally get to your city FedEx the pawns the package off onto USPS so that FedEx can’t be held accountable for the condition of your package. I really can’t stress enough how absolutely f-ing terrible this service is. I don’t even screw around with online stores that deliver FedEx Smartpost as their Ground method of delivery. I won’t buy from them. I’d much rather spend a few extra dollars and not have to wait weeks to get my package or have to play phone tag with FedEx and USPS when they inevitably lose it and I need to get my God damn money back. Screw you FedEx!

  45. I ordered a pair of shoes from Foot Locker on 8/29 and it shipped 8/30. The package made its way fairly promptly from Wisconsin to Sacramento, but sat in Sacramento for 4 days and left 9/6, and later that day it was picked up by USPS. It’s 9/10 and the package has been in the hands of the USPS in my own town for 4 days, not moving at all. Estimated delivery date was 9/7. Much too optimistic.

At least my package followed a proper route.

Maybe the tracking is just a load of bull to make you feel more hopeful. Post #10, is there anything at all that you can do about them losing your package?

  46. Hows this for a fast delivery:

8 days(Assuming is still makes it) to make it from a shipping center thats 3 hours away, wow, the efficiency! I can ship parcel post to BFE in 5 days via USPS. Amazing… I could have walked and picked it up by now. NEVER again.

  47. Here’s my tracking info as of 09/13/2007. It’s been in a sortation center for 8 business days, but the Indians who run Circuit City’s customer support won’t do anything until 9/18/2007 (for something ordered 8/30/2007). I thought I was getting a Wii, instead I get a 2.5 week hassle. Thanks Circuit City and Fedex!

Has anyone had a package spend 8 days or more in a Sortation Center and not had the package lost?

  52. OMG If you thought the postal service couldn’t get any worse… think again. I bought something at Circuit City and asked to have it delivered by USPS. To my surprise, they sent me a link to track it through FexEx Smart Post. This is the worst service ever! I’m sure some software company ate someone’s brain to make them invest millions in logistics technology that DOES NOT WORK! It’s been over two weeks, I have not received my package, and this is the information I found today:

September 18, 2007 6:20 AM Sortation Center Departure ATLANTA, GA
September 11, 2007 4:23 PM Sortation Center Arrival ORLANDO, FL

Does anybody know how the *$#% it just left Altanta if it was in Orlando? That means someone did not record its transit for a whole week, and suddenly it magically appeared BACK in Atlanta. I’m not using SmartPost or any other FedEx service again! Their logistics sucks.

  53. Hi, I’ve worked for a variety of shipping companies (aka UPS and FedEx)...You guys should know that there are often many mis-scans with the parcels…aka they will appear to have left Atlanta when it was last scanned in Orlando. Also, FedEx Smartpost is a 7-9 business day delivery service. Weekends, holidays, etc do not count. If a company is telling you it will be there sooner than that, there are simply not telling you the truth. Packages will often stay in a sortation center for a few days; that is very typical. It’s a low-cost shipping alternative, therefore it is much slower. You’re package is not being stolen, it’s not just sitting around, FedEx SmartPost handles the most domestic packages. Since they aren’t charging their consumers much to ship, there is going to be a lag time. If they’re charging you more than about $5 for shipping, they’re taking that extra money to line their pockets. Ultimately, the liability for refunding to you belongs to the company you placed your order with. The shipping companies refund the companies you bought something from, and they in turn refund you. The reason the shipping company (aka UPS or FedEx) cannot give you personally any refund is because they aren’t even allowed to see your customer information. The only information they have is a tracking number. They can’t look up your name, your address, anything. It’s simple confidentiality laws. Also, I’d like to say that Sony is the worst company ever and openly lies to their customers. I’m never ordering again from them, especially since I know that they are lying. The simple truth is, FedEx SmartPost is slow. It is cheap. You get what you pay for, and if you have complaints, the company you ordered from is the only one that can help you. If the company is claiming to not have information about your package, the liability lies with their shipping department, not FedEx SmartPost. Sorry, folks. The companies that choose to ship this way accept any liability for shipping errors, mistakes, and damages. The reason you can’t get help from FedEx Smartpost, particularly, is because they are exclusively a corporate shipper. If you’re not a representative from Circuit City, Coldwater Creek, etc, etc, they can’t help you. I hope this helps clear up anybody’s questions…

The order was shipped on a Monday and It is now 6 days later…STILL NO PACKAGE. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. tHE PACKAGE WENT UP TO ANOTHER NEIGHBORING STATE WHERE IT RESTED FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE MAKING ITS WAY DOWN TO MY STATE WHERE IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 2 MORE DAYS. i COULD HAVE WALKED TO THE COMPANY 300 MILES AWAY AND BACK FASTER THAN THIS. TERRIBLE. THE PACKAGE HAS BEEN AT MY LOCAL “SORTING” CENTER FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS JUST SITTING THERE. I ORDERED ANOTHER PACKAGE FROM ANOTHER COMPANY ON WEDNESDAY AND IT WAS ON MY DOORSTEP THE NEXT DAY, COMING FROM 800 MILES AWAY…I LOVE DHL EXPRESS. I HATE THIS FEDEX SMARTPOST BS. IT IS FEDEX AND USPS COMBINED DIVISION OF HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE EXPRESS.

  56. STUPID POST ever!

I will never use FEDEX SMARTPOST or buy anything from any company that use FEDEX SMARTPOST services (Yes, the company who support and offer this kind of unreliable delivery service is responsible too)!

I ordered a game console on 9/20/07 from www.circuitcity.com! Circuit City shipped the item out on 9/21/07 using FEDEX SMARTPOST. The tracking info is posted here for you information http://spportal.fedex.com/sp/tracking.htm?bgcolor=%23ecece1&CID=10234&PID=02185456310004563234.

After a month, it is still not delivered as promised! The last update of the tracking showed it was in Sacramento, CA on 9/25/07. It seemed that the item will be there forever! I’m disappointed about this unreliable services made by these BIG NAME Companies, i.e. Circuit City, Fedex, as well as USPS. None of them were willing to help and were just trying to push the problem to one another! As a customer, I had no choice but to talk to my Credit Card Company!

From this lesson, I will totally avoid, and strongly recommend others not to, buying things from companies that use Fedexsmartpost. As a consumer, you don’t deserve this lousy and ridiculous delivery service.

  61. This is my 8th purchase from WOOT, and very possibly my last. My faith in FEDEX has been totally destoried. Fred Smith should be ashamed of such a travesty of customer service and remove the FEDEX brand as quickly as possible from this servive (possibility call it “Slow and Unreliable, but CHEAP”. My order has traveled the country for the past 15 days, when it should have taken 2 or 3 days at the most. This level of service makes losers of everyone: the retailer loses his customer, Fedex loses its reputation, USPS reaches a new low in delivery standards and the customer gets screwed.

Thanks WOOT, FEDEX and the POST OFFICE for your lousy service.

Apparently the well known terrorist organization, Gelalia coffee, has been targeted as several packages have been sent with the box opened and resealed with tape, or my favorite, rubberbands. I guess this wouldn’t bother me so much if I didn’t INGEST the stuff. I’m just wondering if others are having the same problem.

  64. I couldnt agree more with you guys. I am a contractor for fedex smartpost. There warehouse is a complete train wreck boxes are always misdelivered, and nobody seems to care. I love fedex but i hate smart post. Truth be told, The usps has a deal with fedex to have all of the first class, and priority mail shipped on fedex planes, and in turn the usps will give business to them a.k.a. smartpost. Because the postal service cannot afford to operate aircraft anymore. But unfortunately Thats all there is. Any catalog you order from either ships fedex, usps, dhl, or ups. What it comes down to is if you want it on time you have to pay out the ass. Smartpost also crams freight into my truck to the point that boxes are crushed and destroyed. I hate them for this shit.

Woot uses them a lot, in addition to other vendors I have purchased from, and they’ve never lost a package, and while they do seem to take longer to deliver than other shipping methods, it’s not more than a couple days difference. I guess I would feel differently if I ran into the kind of lack of accountability I’m hearing about.

  70. I too am dying waiting for something to come from smartpost. I ordered a laptop from circuit city and it came a week ago today through FedEx Ground. There was a deal along with it to get a wireless router, laptop case, and flash drive for cheap. That stuff was supposed to come today, 1 week after the laptop. I live in Pennsylvania and the package was in Pottstown so I finally figured any day now! But now the update says it’s in Kent, Washington!! How is that POSSIBLE!? It can’t possibly be any closer to coming now. And with all the stories on here of packages being lost and stolen, I’m getting worried. It originally left from Oklahoma, then it went to Texas, then West Virginia, then Pennnsylvania, and like I said now it’s in Washington, further away than it was originally shipped from!! This is totally ludicrous. If I ever think something will be shipped smartpost again I will cancel the order immediately. And I wasn’t trying to get cheap shipping either, I wanted both packages at the same time and would have paid if I’d been given a choice; I wasn’t because it had to be ordered over the phone. What good is a laptop for over a week without internet!? smartpost, what is wrong with you?! It’s been 10 days now, tomorrow will be 11 if it still doesn’t come. It better get its ass to my doorstep.

Supposedly it is a cheaper method, but I have yet to find a dealer who passes the savings on to the customer. If given the choice, I would never buy from a store that uses smartpost as the only option. My last shipment was going back and forth between our town and the neighboring town on a daily basis for a whole week. Neither fedex nor USPS feels responible. This service sucks!

The management have no personnel standards which in regard, require the worker to work more for less and of course do worse at their job. Of course FedEx seems like a wonderful place to work, its a notorious company that takes advantage of the underdog who serve them. It all comes down to money. I have asked for many favors as simply as direct deposit, many say they will help, but nothing happens, having such a simple service at hand is trechourous, for over a month this has on been going on but I hear the same thing every time, “Next week”. I need a job and the money otherwise I would never be at this place, I recommend absolutley NO ONE to apply here because everyone’s perspective is the same, after the first week they want to quit, but they can’t cause it’s an easy job to get. It’s pretty obvious why it is so easy to get. The horrible service starts with the management and with poor management means poor workers and it will never end. I hate FedEx smartpost!

“Please allow 7-9 business days and it may take up to 12 business days for the item to be delivered from the date it as shipped. If you still haven’t received the order, please send us another e-mail and we will take the necessary steps to get the item delivered.”

When I check the tracking info it shows:

    Status: Sortation Center Arrival
    Date Time Description Location
December 14, 2007 7:05 AM Sortation Center Arrival LOS ANGELES, CA
December 13, 2007 5:32 AM Sortation Center Departure DALLAS, TX
December 12, 2007 3:09 PM Sortation Center Arrival DALLAS, TX
December 12, 2007 2:15 PM Pickup CARROLLTON, TX

So I called up FedEx smartpost to check why is it stuck in LA and all they had to say was it indeed is stuck in LA and I should contact the shipper to know why its in this state. Calling buy.com I just get a reply that its in transit wait for some more time. I ordered 10 shipments from various vendors much after this and they all have arrived well before their estimated delivery date.

  77. I am having problems with this “Smart”Post too. I order a package from a personalization company on December 2nd. The company got behind and then shipped out the package on the 12th and would not upgrade my shipping from their mistake. So it left on the 12th from Illinois, went to Wisconsin, then West Virginia, then Georgia. The estimated delivery date was the 20th. On the 17th, my local post office received the shipping information from FedEx electronically, and then FedEx says it entered the USPS in my local town on the same day. The post office, however, never receieved it. When I went to the post office, they looked up the tracking number and found that it was scanned in another town, possibly sent back to Nashville, TN for resorting…but in short, nobody has any clue where my package is. It’s a personalized Christmas gift for my mother worth $200, and I am leaving today with no present. Calling SmartPost too has resulted in nothing…I’ve emailed them and called them and left my number and a message, both with no replies. I am so upset with this company…and with the company I ordered my item from being as big of a pain as SmartPost, I’ll doubt if I ever receive either the package or my money back.

  78. It’s the holiday season and the business I ordered from decided to use smartpost for their free shipping. What a joke. My delivery date was yesterday and no package. I’ve been trying to track it online and its been in the same place for 7 days. Tried calling their customer service and it too was a joke. I could not get a hold of anybody because it was a saturday. No customer service on the weekend even though they deliver on saturdays. It’s two days before christmas, and now my wife won’t be recieving one of her gifts until AFTER christmas. Again FedEx SmartPost is a joke

somehow is it acceptable to take OVER A MONTH? 8 effing days in a texas “sortation center”. sounds to me like someone lost it and then randomly stumbled across it whilst throwing out their 4th starbucks for the day and decided it should probably be put back into circulation. The expected arrival date is 5 weeks from original date of order. Ridiculous.

  82. A few comments—-

    Quoted from the shirt.woot.com site:
Slow shipping is on us, via FedEx SmartPost. Thatâ??s our $0 shipping option. If youâ??re cheap and patient, just let SmartPost do its thing, and your shirt should be in your hand in 5-100 business days.

Secondly, in reference to eliot… FedEx DumbPost is not totally to blame…—-Woot did not give the shirt to FedEx until the 19th. That is when it was picked up.—-There was also a huge holiday in there, which usually makes things slow to a screeching halt…Christmas.—-When you bought it, you were told (reference above) that you need to be patient.

And everybody that has lost items, go back and make sure you get a claim filed in some way. File a chargeback if need be on your credit card. You have a right to not have your package stolen.

  86. I will not order from Lady Footlocker again. Been waiting for soccer cleats since 12/27 and the order spent 7 calendar days in the sortation center – one that is 90 miles from me. So frustrating. I could have just driven up there and picked up the cleats from them, if they allowed that. And LFL charges for Standard shipping (and some of your posts list FREE shipping from various companies) I should have forked over the cash and paid for the 3-5 calendar days or shipping is free guaranteed. They did not list who they actually use for shipping. Had I known and found this site beforehand, I most likely would not have ordered cleats from them.
Plus the girl I spoke to didn’t know whether I needed to be there to sign for the package. Useless outsourced twits. Ugh.

  88. I have my comments to add about fedex smart post. I placed an order before Christmas with a company. The package was shipped on december 24th, I called the company on January 2nd to get the tracking number. It was shipping fedex smart post, this is my first and last experience with them. On 1/2 it got to one state, on 1/4 it was in another state set to be sent to the post office on 1/7. I called Fedex on 1/9 and was told the post office should have it but there was no record of it online. Called the post office several times and the package was not there. Called fedex back and they said it was still in the sorting center. Went online 1/10 to see if there were any updates and it still showed the package in the sorting center. I called fedex again and they said they did not know where the package was that I should call where I ordered the item and see what they could do to get me another sent out. I called and was told to call fedex back and tell them the package was in their posession, they are responsible for it and to find it. So I call fedex and told them, fedex said the package was damaged and to call the company back and tell them to resend the item. I called and was told since it was damaged they would send out another one. Guess what, the package was just delivered, it had been opened but everything seems to be there. By the way according to fedex the package is still in the sorting center and has not been delivered!

  89. Can’t say anything that others already haven’t…delivery times are just pitiful. My first package that came SmartPost took 20 days from California. First it spent a week sitting in LA before shipping to the East Coast, then 10 days sitting in Edison, NJ and then it finally made it my local post office which then took an additional two days. Now another eTailer I bought from chose this ridiculous service. The package made if from Louisville, KY to Edison, NJ in 1 day and now package #2 is just sitting there languishing in Edison. I actually spoke to an in-law this weekend who works for FedEx and I told him the SmartPost service is abysmal and he agreed. GREAT! All I can say is that I will call the eTailer before ordering to assure they DON’T use this service. If they do then I’ll opt for some place else.

  90. I thought I was the only one that has suffered from StupidPost and after reading this, I am amazed to see that others had it worse. At least I EVENTUALLY got my package, only that it was too late. I ordered a whole bunch of stuff from Amazon, some from its affiliated sellers in mid Nov 07. Guess what, everything else but the StupidPost one arrived within a week. The StupidPost packaged still didn’t arrive after two whole weeks, and by the time I got it it was already too late since it was a present and I needed to leave end of Nov intending to bring it with me on the trip. I have never liked FedEx (UPS is the best; even USPS is way better) – everything from it is an overpriced piece of crap, and the the StupidPost is THE crappiest service ever, from ANYONE Don’t companies know that using StupidPost, even though it might save them a few bucks NOW, is really hurting their business in the long run. For example, I will NEVER buy from Avon online again because they use it.

I just ordered something from American Eagle and found out today that they also ship via StupidPost. Oh Lord – the nightmare I swear in the future I will call the companies and if I find out they use StupidPost I won’t even order. It’s THAT bad.

  91. I TOTALLY & COMPLETLEY agree with every single person on here that says “smartpost” sucks!! I feel bad for those of you that ordered really expensive items & had to worry about thier whereabouts..I only ordered clothing from american eagle outfitters BUT, you would think these bigger companies like american eagle, circuit city etc. would use a reliable carrier..I have been ordering clothes etc. online for the last few years now & have ALWAYS experienced timely delivery UNTIL NOW WITH THIS FREAKINSMARTPOST.. & what’s sickening is the fact that they say “FEDEX” smartpost to snake people into believing it is the same as regular fedex delivery!! if I would have known this was gonna be the result of ordering through this carrier, I would have just shopped in the store..I ordered my package last saturday, now I realize it has only techincally been 5 buisness days, but, I would have recieved my package for sure if it has been through regular fedex or ups…not sitting in leetsdale sortation center 45 min’s away for 3 days now! this company must be run by the “moron’s” of fed ex that are too stupid to be employed by the regular carrying system!! good luck to all of you that are still waiting to recieve your packages!!

  92. After seeing how long the ESTIMATED delivery date was (still en route) on the tracking site, I Googled “Fedex smart post sucks” on a frustrated whim; wow, what a lot of dissatisfied customers. The retailers who use it are going to create a lot customers who never buy again. RepairClinic.com charged me $5.99 to ship a 1-ounce piece of plastic, which might have cost a buck for regular mail, which would have gotten it here in less than a week, instead of SmartPost’s 9-day estimate (which may be longer, from what I’ve seen above). A seller of repair parts should be aware that customers will be totally unhappy with a shipping method that takes LONGER than regular mail. I will be very careful in the future.

    Comment by Ron 1/19/2008 @ 10:55 pm

  93. the method behind the madness: There are few trucks designated solely to delivering Fedex packages to the usps, and those trucks are full with premium FedEx parcels. If the trucks at any given sortation center are full, Fedex will simply send your “SmartPost” package internally, and virtually ANYWHERE they can, in an attempt to keep their local percentages of “fluid processing” up. In fact, some sortation centers have next to ZERO trucks designated for USPS conversions, ergo people in some regions (seemingly ALL of them) may experience extreme delays, or never see their goods at all.

  97. When I was notified my package had been shipped using this method, I researched SmartPost, because I was not familiar with it. Its infuriating that FedEx touts it as a timely way to ship packages to customers, when the reality is that its a terrible service that isnâ??t getting packages delivered within 2-7 days, as declared in the service description. After a week, my package finally arrived a sortation center about 20 miles away from my house, where it been sitting for several days now, and has yet to be accepted by USPS. This service is piece of crap, and is certainly deceptive to customers, with a service description that is completely misleading, as it should state a transit time of something like 10-20 business days or so like it actually is. I will never order anything again that has the possibility of being shipped via SmartPost.

It’s now 5 days since its last tracking entry, and two days until Valentine’s Day. Plus, trying to get a phone number for the tracking center is a nightmare! And, of course, once you get the number, they’re only open 8-5 M-F Central Time. Never again—I’ll be asking how my orders are shipping, and if it’s SmartPost, I’m canceling! And since when does a receiving center care if my package is on the way?? That’s a wasted step in the process.

  106. The first time I used smartpost the post office claimed they tried to deliver it and never did. So I had to go and pick it up from the post office. Now the second time around my package is being held up at the post office again. It’s been there since Friday. I thought well maybe they’ll deliver it Sat or Mon. Nope still hung up at the PO. So I called the PO on Tues and they said oh yeah it’s here and we’ll get it out to you today. It’s now wed, and I don’t get off in time to pick it up, what a bummer service. Just pure genius.

The smartpost packages must not be a priority. I think that is why they get sent to the boondocks and back before you get it…if you get it! Just pure genius…the things people do to create jobs…unnecessary jobs…unnecessary postage. Smartpost cost the same amount to ship UPS. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh…it should be called DUMBPOST

Circuit City said it would take 7-10 days, which was OK by me. It was delivered on day six (5 days in transit), and in good condition. And it works great.

That’s my experience with this system. I feel bad for all of you who have had such horrible problems. Perhaps they are starting to get their operation in order.

  109. At first I was a little worried my package was sitting in L.A. for two and a half days and when it finally moved it went to Sacramento when its destination is Virginia so i was confused i checked back a few hours later and it was in west virginia so I’m pretty happy three days into shipping and its less then two hours away hopfully they just get it where it needs to be now im still a little worried but ready to see

  112. So far, my experience was good although I was worried when I read the bad experience of some people here. Got my package in 1 week. Below is my tracking record. I think Fedex Smartpost is getting it’s act together lately. The item I ordered was an SLR camera from circuit city.

  114. I found this site after ordering a Wii from Circuit City and getting the weird tracking # from Fed ex smartpost that really didn’t tell me a damn thing. I did receive the package after 5 days. What a surprise and relief. Good luck everyone, I still wouldn’t recommend this service and will never use it again based on what I have read here and the limited access to information about the package being shipped.

  115. Like y’all, I found this site while attempting to track a SmartPost shipment. I ordered some quilting stuff from ConnectingThreads.com, which shipped via SmartPost on 4/25. It’s 5/9, and the damned thing still isn’t here. Other things I ordered around the same time were shipped by regular mail from further away and got here forever ago (real time: last Saturday, and earlier last week)! Good thing I wasn’t in the midst of a quilting emergency, LOL!

SmartPost usually takes ages in my experience, but I fear this one may be lost. According to the tracking info, my local P.O. was notified to expect the package on April 29, and nothing’s happened since then.

I am a longtime customer (both business and personal) of regular Fedex and have never had an issue with their service. I have found it to be exemplary. I really have a hard time understanding why SmartPost is so bad.
